Sarcasm.
I'm actually pretty apathetic, I just don't get why proponents for universal healthcare would want this crap.
Beggers can't be choosers?
Sarcasm.
well i figured that, but its not like i said that they do harder work than everyone else or anything

That's a pretty shitty attitude when you're trying to help people.
"Oh we want to help but doing better at it would just be too hard."
That and if this thing tanks you can kiss any new reforms goodbye.
I wonder if Rush Limbaugh will hold to his word and leave the country.
This isn't really a victory. It's far from what I thought this could be.
I voiced my opinion on the other thread and I'll say it here again
I support a single-payer system or at least some guarantee of health care from your country. This bill doesn't do that. And I would argue even when there was a Public Option, there were forces at play that made sure it was never meant to do as such.
Like Lankist has said, if you are really one of those who feels the need for real universal healthcare, this is not for you.
This is not universal healthcare. Just more of the same crap. The US still isn't on board with the rest of the industrialized nations. What a surprise.

I hope so. He'd have to go someplace shitty and miserable, everywhere else with an equal or higher standard of living to the US already has socialized healthcare.
:patriot:

I'd assume after this major reform, it'd be way easier to change bits of it in the future.

this is the wonderful irony of it

Unless it proves useless.

Maybe, but considering how much they had to jump through for something that's only going to "regulate", I doubt they'll do anything more.

We'll have to see how it pans out. In a few years, when people actually experience what it's like not to have to worry about getting denied coverage, the mood in Congress may start to resemble that of Medicare. Meaning, Republicans will know it's political suicide to fuck with something that does so much good for so many people. They got the support they did by lying their asses off all day every day for a year, people will eventually find out how much better off they are with these new rights and regulations.
In the short term, though, they're going to continue standing 100% against anything and everything even remotely favored by Obama.
Yay for 16,000 more IRS agents and more jobless people and less freedom all just for some health and the government getting more money!
And I'm serious, 16,000 more. Look it up.

The problem is, the bill doesn't come into effect until 2014 it seems... that won't work because there won't be any impact noticeable yet, and Republicans can continue to play off this for the next few years.
That being said, I don't trust the Democrats for real reform. Republicans are shit bags any way you turn it, but Democrats simply don't have the drive that their progressives had before the 1970s.
It will take four years of tax revenue to begin to see any action taken on this behalf. This is assuming that the billions in revenue is even kept for the health reform, given the government isn't obligated to spend that saved money on this bill and given we are in a deficit it could just be spent to decrease our debt.
If you think about it, debt isn't really that big an issue. You can spend all that saved money, but you'll still have a huge amount of debt. Kinda looks like a lost cause. The US economy isn't really in a good condition right now to even pay off that debt in the future. If you're going to crash and burn anyways, you may as well do it comfortably.
The debt at this point is just laughably large, and it's growing by billions of dollars a day. It's a joke, everybody knows it's never going to be paid off.

These concerns about the deficit are legitimate.
I just don't understand how Republicans and Tea baggers claim to care about that, after unsustainable defense spending over the past few decades that they remained quiet about.
To "fix" things, these two parties won't do anything about it. This situation favors them more or less. And the solution doesn't lay with astro-turf groups like the Tea party either.

True fiscals need to arise. That's why I call myself an fiscal independent.

So basically you're that guy who quits his job after they cut the electricity because you didn't pay the bill, because fuck it you don't have electricity anyway.

Easier said than done, I'm afraid to say.

No, I'm saying things are going to get really, really bad in the US within the next 20 years or so. Debt will be the least of your worries.

That's a really shitty attitude.
[editline]01:14AM[/editline]
If that's the case why worry about health care?
Suck it glenn beck, suck it long...suck it hard
well shit
Easier said than done, I'm afraid to say.
I'd want to be the leader of the republican party when I grow up, but that'll interfere with my science career and I'm not christian.
That's a really shitty attitude.
It's a realistic attitude.
As I said, worry about healthcare, because if you're going to crash and burn, you may as well do it comfortably.

No, you look it up. If you're making a big claim like that, you need a source. A reliable source, not WorldNetDaily or some shit like that.

Around oh say, 100 sources right there.
I'd want to be the leader of the republican party when I grow up, but that'll interfere with my science career and I'm not christian.
Then you don't want to be the leader of them. They aren't going to like people who believe in evolution and are not Christian.
