• Game Industries solution to fighting Piracy, DRM not included!

i never have problems with drm
Using Valve Anti Cheat in your online video game stops piracy quite a bit.
That won't do shit against piracy. They'll just download five small torrents instead of one big one. What that would do, however, is kill the used game market, which is arguably a bigger threat to the industry. People don't say much about it, but most of the c-level execs would rather wipe out GameStop than The Pirate Bay.
This reminds me of how I had to download a crack to get my legit copy of Test Drive Unlimited to work. Then when I later went to the game forums for support, I got flamed by the staff themselves, because they made a broken game which I couldn't start without a crack.
Do you have a link to the thread?
No thanks I don't want a game to come almost entirely in DLC there's enough bullshit costs already.
Agree'ing with the OP. If normal "whole" games cost 60$, then the "demos" would need to cost like 20-30$, with the mini "DLCs" costing 15-30 dollars. I'm thinking this might change normal prices of games though.
:sigh: I missed the days when all DRM was just a CD-KEY and a simple disc check
I was under the impression they have been doing this for awhile because I get unfinished games all the time
Using Valve Anti Cheat in your online video game stops piracy quite a bit.
what
People will just crack and pirate the DLC. 0/10, Codemasters, try again.
what
You can't join VAC servers if your game is cracked
What the fuck are these people thinking? Just sell the game as you normally would, making these fucking ridiculous rules will just encourage people to pirate them. The problem with games is that most games released today aren't even worth the $50 they cost. MW2 is worth like, $15 at the most, since it's basically just an expansion of COD4. If the game companies actually make the game worth the $50, THEN I'll pay for it legitimately.
This would be even more inconvenient than DRM for legitimate gamers. While one person would have to buy, download and install each part of the game, another will be able to just download the whole thing together for free. Not going to work.
what a bunch of apes
The only working DRM is a good multiplayer part.
I don't know about you guys, but I think the pirating situation is minor. They're really blowing this out of the water. They are already giving users unfinished games (now they're going to admit to it). I think stuff like this will anger the public more, resulting in more pirating.
There is no way in hell I'm paying for something that is essentially a demo of a full game. Companies should be ENCOURAGED to put out a full product, no some half-assed product that might be "fixed/added to later". This is the main reason for piracy (besides high prices). This DRM shit is getting out of hand.
The only real way to prevent piracy is to make good games with good replay value or worthwhile multiplayer. Until they admit that they aren't getting anywhere.
They really don't realise the fault in that? Oh wow, what a bunch of retards.
Wow, what a stupid idea.
There is only one solution to software piracy.
Piracy: Download torrent, install game, enjoy. It's easy, fast and free. The current system: Buy game, install game, install DRM, have DRM fuck up and claim you pirated the game, find crack, remove DRM, install crack, enjoy. It's tedious, slow and expensive. Steam: Buy game, wait for game to install and update itself, enjoy. Easy, fast, and cheaper than boxed copies. CodeMasters' system: Buy game part 1, intall part 1, buy part 2, install part 2, buy part 3, install part 3, enjoy. Tedious, expensive and slow. Which of these four is the method people should be using? [sp]Hint: It's Steam[/sp]
DLC is almost always ridiculously overpriced, I'd probably end up spending twice the amount on a game if this sort of system went ahead.
I wish game developers would just realize that no matter what, people will always pirate games. They will pirate the DLC, the addons, they will pirate everything. You can't stop it. To cut down on piracy, just make sure it's a good game and sell it through Steam or something. In other words, everybody should be Gabe.
Yeah the dlc will be out along with the game on a torrent site.
Game companies need to take a hint from Valve. Otherwise they are all just cock-sucking morons.
Everybody, stop being stupid. Steam is NOT an unbreakable DRM platform. It has been done many times in the past. Even with few getting online with pirated software.
DLC is almost always ridiculously overpriced, I'd probably end up spending twice the amount on a game if this sort of system went ahead.
Yeah I spent $100 on Fallout 3 total. Fallout 3 is not worth $100.
Everybody, stop being stupid. Steam is NOT an unbreakable DRM platform. It has been done many times in the past. Even with few getting online with pirated software.
No one said it was. It's the easiest, least invasive system, and it's one of the most secure. Everything gets pirated, it's literally inpossible to stop, but steam does the best job at minimising potential loss while not fucking over legitimate customers.
how to solve PC gaming piracy: sell your game through Steam
i'm guessing you have no idea how many cracked steam programs there are out there? [editline]08:03PM[/editline]
You can't join VAC servers if your game is cracked
you can't even play online if your game is cracked, with a few exceptions.
