Isn't DLC literally this? Most games feel unfinished without DLC so.
Games with a really good multi-player aspect and solid single-player will be the winning products.
Worst thing is that people still keep buying games just like sheep keeps eating grass.
Mainly because they don't want to pirate, they don't want to lose any features from pirating, and they think that the game is worth it?
[img_thumb]http://www.schularena.com/geschichte/themen/fotos/zwischenkriegszeit_nationalismus/holocaust/holocaust2.jpg[/img_thumb] yeah I see where you're coming from
Lol corped photo that doesn't show he is giving suppressive fire.
yeah I see where you're coming from
:sarcmark: Just kidding, no need to go all holocaust on me. I don't even dislike Kotick that much, he's a prick but whatever, Activision's shit anyways
yeah I see where you're coming from
So you're posting a pictures of jews that have died from typhus whilst in the Nazi Concentration camps and a picture of a guy doing suppressive fire while a couple hug? (The ones that were gassed had no clothes and the ones that died of typhus had clothes).
Wait, so what stops the pirates from getting the game AND the downloadable content? It's just another retarded anti-piracy method that's just made to get more cash.
Fuck you Rod Cousens. Either he is thinking about the CONSOLE market (aka. DLCs only possible with Jtagged Xbox) or he is fuckin stupid.
Mainly because they don't want to pirate, they don't want to lose any features from pirating, and they think that the game is worth it?
I can't tell if you're serious or joking. I hope it's the latter.
How to solve piracy: make good games.
How to solve piracy: make good games.
FUCKING THIS. Who in the sane mind would pirate a VALVe game here, on facepunch? I would never even get a thought about doing it. You know why? Because i KNOW that every VALVe game is a masterpiece (or at lease a rock solid game in case of l4d).
I think the reasoning behind it is if the pirates enjoy the first part, they'll buy it and then buy the DLC later. A lot of people pirate initially to test the game out due to lack of decent demos these days. Or they are just trying to rip people off - or a bit of both.
There is 2 types of pirates as far as my experience goes. 1. The ones that don't like buying games which quality they're unsure of. They download the game, play it and then buy it (some buy it even after they finish the game), if it's worth the money. Counter those pirates by making good game. Easy. 2. They ones that doesn't buy games at all. They just can't understand why people should buy games when you can get them for free. There will ALWAYS be pirates of second type, and there is NOTHING you can do to stop them. The only thing that can i multiplayer-only games with no lan-play.
Yar, this be a bad decision.
That gold member's a spah!
I think the reasoning behind it is if the pirates enjoy the first part, they'll buy it and then buy the DLC later. Pirates will just steal the DLC as well. The real reason for this is USED GAMES. The industry doesn't talk about it much to outsiders, but the big corporations consider used games to be a bigger threat than piracy. Seriously. They would rather wipe out Gamestop than Isohunt. They just don't talk about it because used games are legal, and saying that you want them gone makes you look evil.
^Seriously, that. But this 'solution' is no better than what we have now. In fact, it's worse. When your gaming money doesn't go as far these days, the last thing you want to do is give people even LESS for their $60. It makes you wonder, if Bethesda hadn't proved that DLC was successful in fooling people with more money than common sense into paying extra for content, do you think we'd have as much blatant nickel and diming as we do now? And as someone else said, this does nothing to deter pirates. They will get your deliberately unfinished game and the other half you're charging extra for completely free, just as they always have.
No Godwin's Law is comparing someone to hitler/the nazis. Kotick is literally Hitler incarnate
Godwin's law states that the further in a thread goes, the more likeley it is for someone to mention Hitler or Nazis. Won't work.
:sigh: I missed the days when all DRM was just a CD-KEY and a simple disc check
well those days got shitted away when people realized they could download entire games off the internet developers aren't adding DRM in order to be evil, they're doing it out of need
Fuck you.
Godwin's law states that the further in a thread goes, the more likeley it is for someone to mention Hitler or Nazis. http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/godwins-law :eng101:
Well, in it's popular sense, you invoke Godwin's Law when someone makes a Nazi comparison. So we're both right.
How about you just use Steam?
I think the reasoning behind it is if the pirates enjoy the first part, they'll buy it and then buy the DLC later. A lot of people pirate initially to test the game out due to lack of decent demos these days.
Why do people keep saying this? It's just bullshit.
well those days got shitted away when people realized they could download entire games off the internet developers aren't adding DRM in order to be evil, they're doing it out of need
And they're doing a very shitty job at it too.
Are they trying to ENCOURAGE piracy with these ideas? First DRM made it a pain in the ass to play UNLESS you pirated the game, now they think "If we make them pay twice, then there will be less piracy!" Honestly, their logic seems to be that of your average devout catholic or a toddler.
Well you could still pirate singleplayer steam games if you really wanted to I guess. But Steam is just too convenient for me to give a fuck.
and thus the problem is solved!
The only three ways that permantly gets rid of piracy that I can think of are: 1. Ban money in every form on the planet. 2. Make games free. 3. Kill all humans.
So we pay 60$ for 1/6 of the game and pay more money, for the other 5/6 peices? Total crap.
Solution: sell your games at reasonable prices. Halve the price and sales would probably double or more.
Piracy: Download torrent, install game, enjoy. It's easy, fast and free. The current system: Buy game, install game, install DRM, have DRM fuck up and claim you pirated the game, find crack, remove DRM, install crack, enjoy. It's tedious, slow and expensive. Steam: Buy game, wait for game to install and update itself, enjoy. Easy, fast, and cheaper than boxed copies. CodeMasters' system: Buy game part 1, intall part 1, buy part 2, install part 2, buy part 3, install part 3, enjoy. Tedious, expensive and slow. Which of these four is the method people should be using? [sp]Hint: It's Steam[/sp]
I'd take Impulse over Steam any day.
