Well you could still pirate singleplayer steam games if you really wanted to I guess. But Steam is just too convenient for me to give a fuck.
But Gabe hunts you down and eats your children if you do. [editline]07:05PM[/editline] If he's still hungry (he will be) he'll consume your dwelling as well.
(Gabe will eat you joke)
Wow never seen this before.
Actual, but unreasonable, solution to piracy: Sell your games with a DRM dongle, such as programs like Cubase do. They're nearly impossible to crack
People still crack it, it took a team 119 days to crack their protection IIRC.
Isn't this why people pirate games so much these days? Because they just aren't worth the money. Shitty games + increased price = bad sales
Piracy: Download torrent, install game, enjoy. It's easy, fast and free. The current system: Buy game, install game, install DRM, have DRM fuck up and claim you pirated the game, find crack, remove DRM, install crack, enjoy. It's tedious, slow and expensive. Steam: Buy game, wait for game to install and update itself, enjoy. Easy, fast, and cheaper than boxed copies. CodeMasters' system: Buy game part 1, intall part 1, buy part 2, install part 2, buy part 3, install part 3, enjoy. Tedious, expensive and slow. Which of these four is the method people should be using? [sp]Hint: It's Steam[/sp]
The least effective, most expensive and dumb idea possible. So Codemasters system.
So we pay 60$ for 1/6 of the game and pay more money, for the other 5/6 peices? Total crap.
Yup, welcome to corporate america.
Solution: sell your games at reasonable prices. Halve the price and sales would probably double or more.
Sales, yes probably will increase. People feel paying $60 for a shitty port from a console constitutes for stealing it. And who is to say they're actually losing money on it? I don't think they are, and I believe the issue lies that they're not making their projected sales, or they're not make an extra 100 million dollars a year. Pirating isn't hurting their business as much as they like to say.
Just using steamworks would be good enough for me (If I was a gamedev)
I don't mind expansions, but selling uncompleted games is bullshit.
what this is just going to make piracy even easier lol instead of having to worry about buying the first part and then downloading the rest of it pirates will just download the whole thing all in one go
So now normal people are fucked because they have to pay for fucking dlc to play their games. I would rather have a cd key DRM, thank you very much.
Why do people keep saying this? It's just bullshit.
I personally know a few people who do this. I don't personally, I always buy my games by watching video footage and deciding if it seems right for me. I am just pointing out what their reasoning may be. You don't know how the mind of everyone on the planet works and neither do I. Some people genuinely pirate to test a game out.
Message to game developers hoping to make games that people won't want to pirate - make good games. Make them so good people will pay for them, making you richer and able to go on to make bigger, better games.
\I think ill step back to DRM then... Serial keys = money goes 100% to game. DRM = money goes 60% to game and 40% to DRM. This method = money goes 10% to game, the rest you can buy later on, wtf?
I have a better method: Pay money, get game. If you pirate the game, sobeit. If your game is good enough and gets enough good reviews, you make more sales anyway.
Valve is cool because they don't act like Steam is unbreakable. They counter pirates by giving legitimate users so much great content for absolutely nothing compared to other developers. One of my friends was going to try to crack Steam to get free games, but after I showed him some of Steam's features that only work for legit users, he mowed a shitton of yards to get the money to buy the games.
Alright, you can get Half-Life 2 for $0.50 but you don't get any of the textures.
Alright, you can get Half-Life 2 for $0.50 but you don't get any of the textures.
Just download Fake Factory then.
"People are complaining that we're restricting their experience. What should we do?" "CUT HALF OF IT OFF AND MAKE THEM PAY FOR IT" "ALSO, LATHER THE BOXES IN CAT TURD" "GEMIUS"
"If we can't make money from the people stealing the games we'll just steal money from the people who DO buy the games! Genius!"
Anything can be pirated, i wish they would stop trying.
You can't combat piracy, no matter what you do, the only thing you can do is make it as easy as possible for paying customers and hope they'll buy it instead.
No. Fuck this stupid horseshit. I hate DLC. I already paid $60 for MW2 on the PC, and now if you want the whole game it's $105. It's moneygrabbing bullshittery. Maps are supposed to be free updates GODDAMNIT. I'm not paying for an incomplete product.
People still crack it, it took a team 119 days to crack their protection IIRC.
Well shit, nvm then. Though that does make it one of the harder things to crack, and seeing as how almost no DRM prevents piracy so much as delays it, it's still a good method.
Why not give a good game without DRM for less money?
I don't want to pay more or less $100 for a game E.G. buy the (reduced content) boxed set that will be pirated - $50 DLC packs (rest of boxed set) - $10 ea - say there's 5 - $50 There! I just spent $100 on a goddamn game. How about YOU GET RID OF DRM AND I MIGHT ACTUALLY PAY $50 FOR YOUR WHOLE, COMPLETED GAME.
How exactly is this not punishing legit users?
If they would just stop selling games at 50-60 dollar prices, I bet piracy would reduce by at least 20-30 percent.
The most sensible way to go is to stop fighting against piracy. Pirates are not going to stop until you actually give the game away or start producing something actually worth the price and that is never going to happen. All their shitty DRM and expensive DLC is doing is making more people turn to piracy, I personally hope the gaming / music industry collapses since that is exactly what those money grabbing cunts deserve. Small time developers that put a lot of effort into their games (I.E Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress) are the ones we should be supporting. I'd rather donate £50 to them rather than wasting it on some over priced pile of junk that ends up being left to rot by the developers. Until the industry gets their act together I say fuck em.
I would like a 25$ Game then DLCs.
Anti-piracy should not punish legit users :colbert: This is just stupid, right here. sorry to sound stupid, but whats DRM?
Anti-piracy should not punish legit users :colbert: This is just stupid, right here. sorry to sound stupid, but whats DRM?
Digital Rights Management. Basically the thing that fucks legit users but leaves pirate alone.
