Except a supernova or asteroid shower.
Well, Sun dosen't have enough mass to become supernova and when it dies off humanity most likely will have advanced beyond civilization that lives on 1 or 2 planets. Our ability to look out for devastating asteroids is quite good, i think the warning time for such event is 50-200 years or more and by that time we most likely wont be 1 or 2 planets civilization either.

if there is water, there must be swamps. If there are swamps there must be dinosaurs.

Ok so there's water on mars, carbon in the south pole and oxygen in the north. What the fuck is taking so long to colonizes this dam planet.
The water trails are new
1999.
Seems to be a bit like Antarctica but without air.
WOAAAAH SHIT

Also, Robert Zubrin's points in that video are very important. We need to promote space exploration, and keep pushing for colonization of other planets lest we get stuck on Earth and starve ourselves out. Don't keep all your eggs in one basket in other words.

It's the Atlas V vehicle that will carry the Mars Science Laboratory with the rover "Curiosity" to Mars later this year / next year. [editline]5th August 2011[/editline] This looks like only part of the launch vehicle.
Time to go colonize it Now.
That's at least 50+ years away. [editline]4th August 2011[/editline]
Good thing SpaceX wants to be on Mars in 20 years.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIg6pWwezEU&feature=relmfu Much better than conventional rockets.

China and Russia are having a joint mars exploration mission scheduled to launch this year. I wonder if they are related, in that case, is it a space race we're seeing?
uoiea

I hope I get to set foot on the moon and mars before I die.
Where's the evidence? It's like saying that since you see a footprint, a human must've made it, yet you don't actually have evidence that the human in question exists.
Where's the evidence? MASS EFFECT MASS EFFECT MASS EFFECT This shit has been known for awhile now but at least people can no longer go hurr youre full of shit

If it's not life above the microbial level, I really don't care.
global warming is striking mars god damn you see what youve done someone call al gore
global warming is striking mars god damn you see what youve done someone call al gore
I thought that was some kind of poem at first, because of the way you spaced it.
So in about a 20 years they'll be finding out a lot of hopefully fascinating news about Mars. And the fact that there's water only tells me that there are some thirsty creatures dwelling in there.
I thought that was some kind of poem at first, because of the way you spaced it.
Martian global warmth! God damn you, see what you've done?! Someone call Al Gore.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIg6pWwezEU&feature=relmfu Much better than conventional rockets.
You do know though that this engine has a thrust of only a couple of newton?
I don't get how the water doesn't just evaporate immediately without an atmosphere.
I don't get how the water doesn't just evaporate immediately without an atmosphere.
Mars has an atmosphere.
But it's almost completely carbon dioxide. I saw something about how ice on Mars melts into gas, not liquid, due to the atmosphere.
