EA likens difference between Origin and Steam to difference between Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty

Expecting Origin to launch out the gate as a one-to-one competitor with Steam is pretty unfair, Steam got through through years of evolution.

Origin is basically EA Download Manager at its core.

Pretty much, the community stuff and store is tacked on to the downloader (the only thing that will pretty much always work as intended). Everything but the downloader has a long way to go compared to Steam because it's all new.
back to karkand, it was more of just an addon cut from the original release
seriously, it was advertised with the previews, so it's practically just part of the game
so technically, close calls of quarters, duty for battlefields is the first DLC
Still technically an expansion, so I don't quite understand what you're getting at either other than expressing your dislike for BF3.

Well, maybe if EA didn't sit on their ass for six years they would have a product capable of being competitive.
BF and COD?
Try Robocop and Weekend at Bernie's
i know way too much about 80's movies because this makes way too much sense.
It's funny. Steam is embedded in PC gaming. Every PC gamer at least knows steam and how good it is.
Then origin walks in, thinking it can knock steam off its tower by using insults. At least Valve has the decency to not insult back.
It would most likely just hurt Valve's PR if they did get into this argument. It looks pretty unprofessional for EA to be whining about how Steam is better, meanwhile Steam just goes "...Hey, want Just Cause 2 for $5?"
They're ignorants.
"My name is Bomimo and today we're gonna play Steam" *woooosh*
"so the first thing i notice is that i have to download the app, but not only that, to start playing i have to download AGAIN! Like ONE download wasn't enough!?"
I'm to pissed off to keep typing it out...
This video instantly comes to mind:

That's probably what he was referring to.
You're a fucking idiot if you believe that. Origin can work as a platform, EA just need to put a lot of work into it. People said the exact same things when Steam launched (and when Steam launched it barely fucking worked anyway). But look at it now, enough work was put into it and it is now the de-facto platform for digital distribution.
But it's REALLY annoying having all these sames types of software. Including Steam I probably have about six different ones which there is absolutely no sense in.
it's funny because their first expansion is call of duty style mapping and gameplay
Because any game that has close quarters means it is trying to be call of duty.
So when they're trying to be a better service than steam, why do they force their customers to use origin then? Why not leave the choice of better service to the customer?
"Well, give us a few more years, and maybe we'll be better than Steam," DeMartini told Gamasutra."That said, right now we're not. Steam took eight years to get where it is. '
lol gee I don't know maybe it's because origin is a little more forced / steam had to deal with being the first of it's kind maybe...
just
maybe
and isn't origin also just an old glitchy shitty playform that was renamed? kind of like bing?
Also, steam got massive a lot sooner than "8 years".
So cod you can play it anywhere, but battlefield 3 you need a bunch of programs to run alongside it.
People only use Origin because of the cash grab EA pulled when they decided to make several games Origin exclusive. Exclusives are the only reason that people don't entirely switch to Steam.
There goes every hope of EA ever getting any sort of money from me.
I was sold a game with a non-functional code, and I wrestled with their tech support for a week, photographing and scanning everything to prove that I was legit. They still denied giving me a new code, and I just wasted good money.
Fuck EA and everything they stand for. They force new distribution software on their customers, bastardize good games, and offer the shittiest customer service in the industry.
Origin will never overtake Steam. I'm not saying Steam is perfect, but at least it isn't as invasive and inefficient as Origin.
I hope EA goes bankrupt.
Actually I decided to check

its like a new retarded kid (origin) on the block trying to knock out rad mccool (steam). radmccool doesn't give a fuck because he knows he's already the best.

Hasn't EA been taking quite awful of losses lately? Basically throwing huge amount of money into projects that were doomed to fail from the beginning.
I personally hate origin's layout. It is too simplistic. No shortcuts or links, you have to navigate directly to someone's profile where you can see very little information. I hate the orange it uses and it's logo makes it look like it is up itself, saying 'we hired a guy to make a crappy logo, so you'd better give us your money'. Also, I reckon EA pesters developers to hurry up and finish the game so they can get their money already. Which is why the recent games published by EA have been really unpolished (BF3 looks pretty bad without that injector thing, too much blue).
I liked origin at first, but the customer support is the worst I've ever dealt with. The three times I've contacted them over issues with bf3 they have told me all the standard shit like "check if your drivers are up to date" or "restart origin". When I've told them I've already done so, they take anywhere between 10-20 minutes before I get a reply back.
"Last week DeMartini raised eyebrows when he promised that Origin wouldn't copy Steam's popular 75 per cent off sales because, in his words, they "GENERATE LESS PROFIT".

what? sales bring in more people and revenue, they're stupid or just plain ignorant not to have them
i dont know whats with all this origin hate bandwagon, from a techincal aspect it works really great and atleast it doesnt install directx all the time unlike steam.
yes it does. it just doesnt tell you it does.
I want to see Origin shut down and everyone's accounts on it merged with Steam.
I remember once when Steam started updating some games and BF3 just imploded.
Really? Are you kidding me EA?
Comparing Steam with CoD is like comparing a first class stallion with a beaten dead horse.

I like the sight of that, it looks highly promising.

Something tells me you're missing the point here. Likening the comparison of Origin to Steam to a comparison of CoD to Battlefield was meant to show that they're both two different things of the same base foundation that have turned in different directions to offer different services. Sure, Origin is lacking a few of these services, but Steam had the headstart and Origin is only in early days yet.
If EA had been likening Steam to CoD and and Origin to Battlefield then there'd be an uproar from Steam fans, which funnily enough has happened regardless. If they had intended to mock Steam by likening it to something which you call "a beaten dead horse" then the amount of backlash from the CoD community would be enormous.
Now don't get me wrong, I love Steam as a platform for game purchases and management and community profile viewing, editing and commenting with a huge community following it, but the amount of blind hatred Origin gets largely because it's EA at the helm is ridiculous. Yes, it does have a fair share of annoyances. Yes, it does have a limited selection of games as of now, but it's only been out since Battlefield 3 was released if I recall correctly, and in its early days Steam was just as stubborn of a games platform. Give it some time, for gods sake.
Give it some time, for gods sake.
If you have to resort to giving it time, it's failed. The point of Steam as a service is to have your games unified in one place to cause less hassle. Because of this, Origin has no purpose existing unless it is a more beneficial system to the user than steam, which isn't possible due to the vast majority of steam's consumers having a larger library of games purchased than Origin has at all.

I agree that Steam was a bit shit when it first came out, and I'll even say that Origin might be as good digital distribution platform as Steam is (I never tried it, so I can't say) but I will never use Origin and I will never buy an Origin-exclusive game because I disagree with EA politics and I believe in voting with my wallet. It's as simple as that.
