• EA likens difference between Origin and Steam to difference between Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty

I respect them for admitting Origin is flawed, but that respect is counterbalanced by comparing Steam to COD.
I think I might make a followup point here by poking a finger at the complaints that EA forces you to install Origin when you buy a retail copy of one of their games. I've got a copy of the Orange Box sitting right by my desk, and oh would you just believe what piece of software it forces me to install before I can use it. Funny, this also applies for my L4D2 retail copy, and, also funnily enough, Valve's flagship title for Steam, Half-Life 2. [editline]beans[/editline] Yeah, I realise I worded that a bit strongly, with my apologies. I just feel that Origin gets too much hate with a side order of hypocrisy.
There goes every hope of EA ever getting any sort of money from me. I was sold a game with a non-functional code, and I wrestled with their tech support for a week, photographing and scanning everything to prove that I was legit. They still denied giving me a new code, and I just wasted good money. Fuck EA and everything they stand for. They force new distribution software on their customers, bastardize good games, and offer the shittiest customer service in the industry. Origin will never overtake Steam. I'm not saying Steam is perfect, but at least it isn't as invasive and inefficient as Origin. I hope EA goes bankrupt. Actually I decided to check Just...a little.... more....
What the hell happened mid 2008?
Due to the 2008 Economic Crisis, Electronic Arts had a poorer than expected 2008 holiday season, moving it in February 2009 to cut approximately 1100 jobs, which it said represented about 11% of its workforce. It will also close 12 facilities, yet to be identified. Riccitiello, in a conference call with reporters, stated that their poor performance in the fourth quarter was not due entirely to the poor economy, but also to the fact that they did not release any blockbuster titles in the quarter. In the quarter ending December 31, 2008, the company lost US$641 million.

Hasn't EA been taking quite awful of losses lately? Basically throwing huge amount of money into projects that were doomed to fail from the beginning.
Here's pretty much a kindergarten style of what they're doing wrong. So (e)A guy buys 500 pencils for 5 cents a piece. He then goes around and sells them to other people for 5 cents a piece. He sells 480 of them. How much money did (ea) He make? [sp]-$2.50[/sp] That and "Let's send a metric poopload of money into a game and then expect people to buy the DLC anyways"
Desura master race (seriously though Steam ftw)

They need to stop raping everything for money. Battlefield 3 for example. 60$ when it came out if the game included Back to Karkand, then a few months later you can buy everything for all the classes, vehicles, etc for another $60, then BATTLEFIELD PREMIUM GUYS YOU WANNA SPEND ANOTHER $60!? Your game is not worth $180, quit fucking trying to do this to players loyal to the franchise since 1942. Hell it's hardly worth the $60 originally offered for the game.
What the hell happened mid 2008?
I'm guessing it has to do with Spore being released during that year, seeing as how that turned out.

You can still buy LE copies of the game and get BTK free if you really want. The unlocks packs are retarded and only people with no patience buy shit like that, and Premium covers you for all the future expansions for a lower price if you wanted them anyway. You don't have to buy that though, you could just spent like, $20 on a CD key site and then buy whichever expansions you actually want.
What's up with EA's fascination with Call of Duty.
Because its the only series that managed to be milked more then theirs.
at least someone is offering some type of competition, as terrible as it may seem. if it does anything at all, im sure origin improved steam sales during its release period.
A better comparison would be between arma ll and ET for the atari in terms of realism.
More like, steam is battlefield 2, and origin is MW3.
Doesn't Steam do that because certain games require different DirectX files then each other?
This, when Steam uses Dx# installers, it ONLY installs the compenents needed to run that game if they are not present, which is why it nearly always pops up for first time launches of most modern games...
