Didn't his wife have an abortion or something?
Didn't his wife have an abortion or something?
Yeah I read that she did.
I also read that they took the unborn fetus home, cuddled with it, photographed it and put pictures of it on the wall along with their other children, then they took the fetus back to the hospital.
I wish I was joking.

Abortion is surprisingly common with pro-life people. It's different when it happens to you and not that slutty girl who was just asking for it.

Actually, reading a bit about it, it seems his wife's abortion wasn't induced, but was caused by an infection.
I'm not sure which side to believe right now though, so make up your own decision on this by reading about it.
They did take the 20-week old fetus home and cuddled with it though.

Well that's blatantly ridiculous; I'm pretty sure a fetus is medical waste, and no-one would be allowed to take it home.
In any case, it would seem that these are unfounded rumours. However, his wife did have a boyfriend who performed abortions, and was an avid reproductive rights advocate. Oh, and he delivered her.
They're a special circumstance!
Of course. It was an accident, and they're not ready to be a parent. It's different when everyone else does it though.
Gabriel Michael was born prematurely, at 20 weeks, on Oct. 11, 1996, and lived two hours outside the womb.
Upon their son's death, Rick and Karen Santorum opted not to bring his body to a funeral home. Instead, they bundled him in a blanket and drove him to Karen's parents' home in Pittsburgh. There, they spent several hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2. They took photos, sang lullabies in his ear and held a private Mass.
"That's my little guy," Santorum says, pointing to the photo of Gabriel, in which his tiny physique is framed by his father's hand. The senator often speaks of his late son in the present tense. It is a rare instance in which he talks softly.
He and Karen brought Gabriel's body home so their children could "absorb and understand that they had a brother," Santorum says. "We wanted them to see that he was real," not an abstraction, he says. Not a "fetus," either, as Rick and Karen were appalled to see him described -- "a 20-week-old fetus" -- on a hospital form. They changed the form to read "20-week-old baby."
As I said, I wish I was joking.
Abortion is surprisingly common with pro-life people. It's different when it happens to you and not that slutty girl who was just asking for it.
Wait let me get this straight.
Santorum is anti-abortion no matter what the reason for it is, and then his wife gets an abortion? I've never been to America and am not 100% certain how politics work over there but how is this man even allowed to run for president?

Fucking psychopath.
Why the hell does this dude have ANY votes? Are republicans this batshit insane?
Fucking psychopath.

Oh, I see - it wasn't an abortion, it was an induced labour. That's a bit different.
I'm amazed that they were able to take the baby home, though.
[editline]25th February 2012[/editline]
At the end of the day, though, they did choose her life over the baby's, so you could reasonably argue the distinction between that and a woman who has an abortion for the sake of her health is practically nil.

Not sure what you mean. Are you saying that he shouldn't be allowed to run for office because he's a hypocritical asshole? In that case I'd imagine not too many politicians would be running.
At the end of the day, though, they did choose her life over the baby's, so you could reasonably argue that he's hypocritical if he believes women should not have abortions if their lives are at stake.
Oh I see. But either way it is very similar to having an abortion. It was lucky that the fetus was 20 weeks old instead of 10. If that event didn't change his stance on abortion then nothing will.
Often if a rape victim is impregnated, mental health professionals will advise getting an abortion so that they can focus on their own recovery. Because nothing will remind you of rape like carrying around the rapist's offspring for 9 months, undergoing the extraordinarily painful and often traumatic experience of birth, and having to either put that child up for adoption (which is not the dream solution that anti-choicers think it is, and can cause severe mental health issues in its own right) or keeping it for another ~18 years.
It's almost as if the life of a living, breathing, dreaming, in-the-flesh woman is more important than that of a fetus, eh Santorum?
people who say "put it up for adoption" make my fucking blood boil
people who say "put it up for adoption" make my fucking blood boil
Agreed. They always throw it out there as though it's the end of discussion, and that it's the end-all solution to this whole mess. I wish it were that simple.
They're a special circumstance!
Well they're certainly "special".
Prick Santorum needs to die in a fire, Horribly.
Fucking psychopath.
Hold on a sec there chief. I'm pretty certain that losing a baby is an incredibly traumatic experience, so it's not entirely surprising how he reacted so differently to most.
Doesn't mean he's a psycho. Just different.

Apparently, his reaction to the abortion wasn't as unusual as it seems, but he's still batshit insane for other reasons.
Yes
bye
i want santorum to get raped and then impregnated just to see him make the best of it
:downs:
I knoe it is wrong, but i kinda wish his daughter and wife would be raped and impregnated, and start begging him for abortions...
what the fuck is wrong with you facepunch
Agreed. They always throw it out there as though it's the end of discussion, and that it's the end-all solution to this whole mess. I wish it were that simple.
Putting it up for adoption sounds like a dick move to be honest, to some degree
it's the same as having an abortion, out of sight out of mind, only it's living. So it's not an "end all discussion" at all, only an asshole would see it as that.
No, he's fucking batshit crazy.
Everybody reacts differently to a trauma like that. If doing what he did makes him feel better, I'm not going to deny him it out of maliciousness.
i think we're gonna need another president assassination
IF he gets voted in
i think we're gonna need another president assassination

And deal with all the sympathy shit? Nope.
Everybody reacts differently to a trauma like that. If doing what he did makes him feel better, I'm not going to deny him it out of maliciousness.
I will, because its not a coping mechanism for trauma, its absolutely insanity. I'd more than happily deny it to him all day like.
...but it's only ones like Santorum we hear about. I know they aren't all like this - I have some very good friends who are Christian - but this douche certainly isn't helping their image.
There's people like that with everything. The rich, the poor, blacks, whites, asians, etc. All groups or races have a group of people who make the whole seem "bad". He is pretty one of them.
Somebody needs to rape Dick Scrotum with a horse dildo.
I will, because its not a coping mechanism for trauma, its absolutely insanity. I'd more than happily deny it to him all day like.
More often than not, people go crazy as a way of coping. That's why people may become Narcissistic if their self-esteem is too low, or why people suffering from PTSD may become sick when they remember the memories that caused it.
The craziness is just a side-effect of a traumatic experience causing an absolute mental crisis. Denying him the ability to do what makes him feel good is not how you fix it.

Letting him go on with his crazy delusions so he can go on and ruin an entire country is the right way to do it?
Maybe him never being told "Stop being such a fucking retard and realize what century you're living in" is what led him to have such downright retarded ideas on everything.
Letting him go on with his crazy delusions so he can go on and ruin an entire country is the right way to do it?
I don't want him as a president; I want him fixed, and I don't think that restricting him from what helps him through the day is the best way of doing that.
I want everybody happy whether they're as stupid as Santorum or not. Unless somebody wants to get a psychologist for him, I feel it isn't necessary to trample on his "parade."
