• 'The Trump slump': Remington files for bankruptcy as gun sales tumble
so weird. is it wrong for me to interpret this as if gun regulations (or fear of gun regulations) are good business for gun companies?
During Obama's presidency guns sales always seemed to go up after a major mass shooting. Frankly, I'd be surprised if there were mass panic buys after the events in Florida recently since the GOP won't touch gun regulations.
There's a reason they're known as "Rustington" nowadays. Ever since '07 they've gone to shit, and they've dragged Marlin, Bushmaster, Para Ordnance, and H&R down with them. That being said, this isn't the last we'll see of the Remington brand. Winchester went bankrupt in the late '90s and was ironically bought out by Browning, the company named after the man who designed just about every Winchester gun from 1870-1900, so I can guarantee someone will buy Remington and their associated brands, then outsource their production overseas like Browning does (like 75% of Browning guns are made in Japan, and Winchester's pump action is made in Turkey. The only American guns from either of them are Winchester's bolt-action rifle and Browning's 1911s, which are shit) to reduce costs.
Colt Canada isn't closed and I can't find any article or reference that it was/has closed
You're right, I wasn't paying enough attention to what I was reading. They're not closed, but the rumourmill/claims from claimed employees are saying they've been stripped down quite a bit, basically just to C7 and 8 production for militaries and little else.
If you want a reason as to why Remington is going under, you have to look no further than products like their R1 and R51 handguns (I'm surprised those are still on the website, I thought they'd been shut down years ago), their 870 shotguns (they'll rust for no reason. I had one that would regularly just "grow" some weird crap on the barrel where it met the receiver) and their 700 rifles, which for years have had the ability to literally just go off in the user's hand or on the table in front of them.
Good, fuck them. After all the bullshit they have been pulling with the 700 and sub-par quality of their shotguns and rifles for the past few decades they honestly deserve it.
Nobody said this so cool your jets and stop being hyperbolic.
Uhh... did you even bother to read the post I was quoting?
Just look at 2009-2016, every time there was a mass shooting gun sales spiked because groups like the NRA fueled paranoia of the Obama administration coming to steal everyone's guns.
I’m pretty sure they just did, or at least heavily implied that NRA fear mongering was the biggest factor in gun sales spikes while ignoring other huge factors (like dumb politicians) which make panic buying a thing.
