why would you even protest wearing helmets
To be cool and rebel.
what's wrong with a say, pitch black motorcycle helmet?
i think it looks cool
;30899481']Why should you have to have a helmet? You'd be the only one hurt if you crashed.
Because it would take a hospital's time and money to get you back together if you survived is probably one of the reasons.
One of my uncles died in a motorcycle accident because the helmet caught on a pothole and snapped his neck.
That is extremely unlikely with a full helmet. Half helmets are more likely to catch on something because they are not flush with your shoulders basically.
Half helmets also fail to protect the chin, which is extremely likely to sustain damage in a motorcycle accident. Basically anyone who wears a half helmet on a bike is stupid. You either wear a full helmet and clothing made out of pavement resistant material, or you drive a fucking car because you are too fucking stupid to be a bike.

I often see people driving bikes/scooters with hoodies and tracksuit bottoms, you call it stupidity, I call it natural selection in progress.
I'd imagine that if it were legal, insurance companies wouldn't pay out if you did cripple yourself while not wearing a helmet anyway, so it's kind of moot.
Why would they? Your fault.

Says it all.
I don't see how it's a waste of time, it's legally required to wear PPE at manufacturing, construction and other site where there might be dangerous circumstance, why should a car or motorcycle be any different?
biking isn't a job
I don't see how it's a waste of time, it's legally required to wear PPE at manufacturing, construction and other site where there might be dangerous circumstance, why should a car or motorcycle be any different?
I think this hits the nail on the head, riding a motorcycle (and driving to an extent) is a dangerous activity so those doing it should be legally required to wear suitable protective equipment in the same way they would if they were doing something dangerous inside like a nuclear power plant or something.
Here in Norway, motorcycle helmets are mandatory and no-one bitches about it.
Why does everything have to be so hard in the States?
Same in the UK and likewise no one bitches. Its no different to having to wear a seatbelt.
people will protest over everything
i demand AT4CS be legalized and purchasable through sales because i have the right to do it under second amendment, and the government has no right to intrude if i want to purchase a bunkerbuster.

Are you sure that isn't already legal. I can't see why it wouldn't be.
Don't think it would work for a concealed weapon though.
Reminds me of the vehemently anti-seat belt guy who got ejected out of his car while his friends all loved.

Libertarians
They acknowledge that it's stupid. But they argue that it's their right to be stupid, and the government should have no say.
Same reason they often argue for legalization of all drugs, and against seat belt laws, etcetera.
Every man should be responsible for their own health and life. We're not children anymore to tell us what we can and what we can't do. Laws should protect you from others not from yourself. You have a brain for that.
if the rider is uninsured, the state would also pay his medical bills
I didn't know you have free healthcare there. Everyone should be uninsured then.
and helmets statistically prevent or lessen serious accidents moreso than not wearing one. If you were to crash, you clog up the roads and force police, firefighters, ambulances and whatever else public employees to come to the scene which costs money. If your injury was less severe because you had a helmet, the response need not be so large.
So helmets are not for protecting people but to make emergency services work less? It's a valid point, just seems I don't know, selfish?
If the U.S. had a developed country's healthcare, the government would pay for all of your medical bills so I could use the argument that the state could force you to wear a helmet to lower its costs.
Wouldn't the money come from taxes? Everyone would pay for everyone's treatment? The money would be used for what it's supposed to be?
Private road? Go for it, don't wear a helmet. But if you're riding on public roads then I see no problem with the state telling you you have to wear a helmet because driving is a privilege.

It's the same deal with seat belts.
The police don't want to scrap your corpse off the pavement if you crash into a wall at 50mph and get smeared over the highway for 200 feet, same deal with helmets; they don't want to wash brains off the highway.
So you are fine with people getting killed as long as they don't block the road?
Then you get into the whole deal with people with children; what if they don't wear their helmet, and get into a fatal crash where a helmet could have saved them and not orphaned the kids/left them with just one parent?
Oh god think of the children argument. Children are not responsible for themselves, their parents are responsible for them. They should take care of their children and be responsible for them, not the government. You can't teach people responsibility if you do everything for them.
I don't see how it's a waste of time, it's legally required to wear PPE at manufacturing, construction and other site where there might be dangerous circumstance, why should a car or motorcycle be any different?
Because the employer is responsible for you. All the rules on the construction site are to make the place safer for employees, and you agree to follow these rules when you sign the paper. When you do your job, you do it as you were told to do it. Doing it wrong will get you fired. If you don't follow the safety precautions you are doing your job wrong. The employer can tell you what to do and how because you have agreed to work for him.
I don't remember signing a paper in which I agree that the government can tell me what do to with my life or health. Again laws should protect you from others and vice versa, not from yourself.
My motorcycle is about 50% of my transportation. The guys I ride with stupid enough to not wear helmets normally have way more injuries than the rest of us.
;30899481']Why should you have to have a helmet? You'd be the only one hurt if you crashed.
Maybe because your chances of not having your brain spread across yonks of the road are considerably higher when you're wearing a helmet?
Maybe because your chances of not having your brain spread across yonks of the road are considerably higher when you're wearing a helmet?
Exactly, you should wear a helmet because you can die, not because you can get a ticket.
