The European Union originated out of the idea that economic interconnectedness is the single most effective bulwark against war. Now that the bulwark has been cracking for a while, shit like this leaks out. Now it looks like Europe is on the path of regression, what with far-right parties popping up all over the place and gaining more and more votes. The EU may not be particularly efficient or sufficiently representative, but christ it's a bad idea to go back to fuck-everybody-else 1940's nationalism.
