I wonder if he knew that the USSR fell in 1991. That would feel so depressing to have been captured, rescued 33 years later, only to know that your country fell 22 years ago.

USSR wasn't a country, this guy wasn't captured, this guy isn't Russian, and Russian isn't even his first language and he speaks it very poorly.
