I remember hearing about that they would build a mosque at the spot, would have been much more multicultural of them if they did.
Thatsssss a nice tower you got there... It would be a shame... If sssssomething happened to it...
flying creepers v2
I swear I heard somewhere that part of the new building was redevelopment of the surrounding streets for new security measures. Sure it's a great indication of how resiliant the americans are but it is subtle in the fact that it also shows their extreme paranoia.
Freedom tower? Really? It's like a parody of itself.
You're just upset because it's better than anything in Lisbon

I saw it in person a few months ago, and it is a striking building for sure, absolutely amazing.
Right now those Russians could do it if things get worse with (Ras)Putin.
You really think that?
I've never been in New York. I've always wanted to visit it. My memories of it were sitting in front of the TV when I was five, watching cartoons and just being surprised when the breaking news report interrupted the adventures of some of my favorite characters and threw a bucket of reality at my face. Every year on this day I've always felt something in my heart. I don't know what it was, really. Every year I rewatch the footage. And every year, I feel scared. I'm eighteen years old now, and I'm still scared. But at the same time, I want to reach out, to somehow give those scared people a semblance of hope, to help them get through what was a shitty day for them. Like for some reason the ramblings of a Brazillian kid would make them happier. But this year... I'm watching the footage, and I know what comes later, and I still feel a tingle in my skin, yet I see this piece of news, and I see that gif, and I see other pieces of news like the one about how the ozone layer is recovering, and I look at myself and at the future and at the world I'm living in and for the first time, I'm not that scared. I feel like that building is a sign that no matter what hits us, human beings have the perseverance to stand and build it back up. And that, more than anything, makes me excited for what is just around the corner. Phew. Feels good to get that out of my chest.
I remember hearing about that they would build a mosque at the spot, would have been much more multicultural of them if they did.
Nah, the mosque was to be located nearby (afaik not a new building but located in an existing one), but then a far-right backlash happened; among other things they asserted the mosque was to be built on ground zero, that it would have a blaring minaret etc.
so if i go to this tower can i get some freedom?
A project on track and on budget? That is amazing!
Freedom tower bahaha
You're laughing because it's a symbol of recovery and unity?
You're just upset because it's better than anything in Lisbon
Why would I care about Lisbon? I don't even like Lisbon lol And we sure woulnd't call a building something so cliché like Freedom Tower. I'm surprised it isn't painted in red white and blue.
You're laughing because it's a symbol of recovery and unity?
We're laughing because people called it the silliest, most american way of thinking ever. Like, if my country made a building called Codfish tower.

[editline]11th September 2014[/editline] Not a big deal
It fits the events that occurred, it's just a name and it's a catchy one, who seriously cares that much. "Not a big deal", tell that to the unemployed and those whose lives were destroyed. And the mothers that prostitute themselves at night because our minimum wage doesn't help afford basic expenses.
A symbol of pure, unrated, rated M for mature, rated E for forced on everyone, director's cut nationalism.
This basicaly. America has long proclaimed itself being a land of freedom, it has nothing to do with 9/11 or anything. It's like the designer went with it because "America fuck yeah everybody will love it because America fuck yeah" but sure why not..
I still think we should have thrown our entire GDP for a few years at constructing this motherfucking gigantic tower, but during construction we hid it under cloth or something so nobody knew what it was. Then when it was complete, amid all the speculation and shit, we yank the cloth off to reveal a gigantic dick with a hundred gigawatt laser at the tip that can zap motherfuckers all the way over in Afghanistan. [editline]11th September 2014[/editline] Then we use it to exact revenge on all everyone who has wronged us.
Stop the Cock at Ground Zero!
Freedom tower bahaha
As appose to "Building Office Complex # 1453"? The site has a new Cultural meaning to the American people now, of course we're gonna build on top of the rubble and dedicate it to such a tragic day. [editline]11th September 2014[/editline]
You're laughing because it's a symbol of recovery and unity?
Prolly because "muricuh sux because things".
Hasn't been called that in 5 years. Now it's the "One World Trade Center." What's laughable is how I have relatives who live in New York City and they still assert that it's the old name.
My dad worked on it, still uses the term "freedom tower", but hey he also calls depeche mode danger mouse to fuck with me. :v:
You're laughing because it's a symbol of recovery and unity?
the name normally typed out is fine but i'm not gonna lie seeing FREEDOM TOWER suddenly pop up in that gif made me giggle, it seems very ridiculous when put in all-caps
the name normally typed out is fine but i'm not gonna lie seeing FREEDOM TOWER suddenly pop up in that gif made me giggle, it seems very ridiculous when put in all-caps
i thought it was one of those "murica" things that being said i think the name rather fitting
