Yeah, it probably does. And I acknowledge that. It's childish, and people really shouldn't. Patience is a virtue, yeah all that lot. It's still frustrates me. But they can take they're time I guess. We've waited 6 years, we can wait 4 more tops. Beyond 10 years is just agony.
Beyond 10 years is going into Duke Nukem territory.

Or Team Fortress territory?
What about Fallout?
I want baked lightmaps on static props
Please Valve, escape from the era of brush based mapping

I wouldn't mind brushes so much if it were a bit like the CSG from UDK.

What kind of mapping do you propose they use then? I'm not sure why it wouldn't be possible with the current format. You could still bake based on entities couldn't you? But I'm not an expert on their formats.
We used to say Duke Nukem Forever was never going to come out before HL3
We used to say Black Mesa was going to come out before HL3
And now Valve is developing the third game in a series that isn't Half-Life

This, I agree with. It's not bad or anything, but you'd say HL3 would come out first, then all the other 3rd sequels like L4D3 or Portal 3 or TF3 or whatever.

The same type but with baked AO/shadows on static props and maybe a less shit map editor
If you model a building and import it into Source as a prop_static it looks like complete ass because it uses cheap vertex lighting. Brushes have precomputed lighting that looks a hell of a lot better.

Haha really? Vertex lighting? I thought that was not really in use anymore.
Haha really? Vertex lighting? I thought that was not really in use anymore.
Vertex lighting is still used in pretty much everything that needs to be rendered quickly, just with shadows, SSAO and the like piled on top.
I really hope that level streaming is a part of Source 2. Going back and playing HL2 is sort of frustrating as there are short load times everywhere. Portal 2 is even worse, so many loading screens, it's ridiculous.
As long as I can get my Valve gameplay and storytelling fix I don't care if it's HL3 or not.
is that like a drug addiction?

consoles held back their entity limit per map

that and dumbed down puzzles for console controllers
I can understand this.
They have a brand new engine, one that's going to be hopefully pretty damn amazing. They'd wanna make a l4d type game to show it's power off. "Look how cool our new engine is! Ain't it rad? Look at all these new effects and AI's all working at the same time! Look at how dynamic stuff is woah wow!"
That and they aren't making HL3
Oh, gee, I guess it's okay to go right into name calling when someone disagrees with you about a video game.
User experience may differ, and for me, I could never get into L4D co-op, singleplayer, or otherwise, it's just the same old shit about killing zombies.
Gonna back this dude up. The fuck is wrong with this site lmao.
"I didn't like the games, the zombie genre is kinda saturating the market."
"Lmao look at this scrublord doesn't have enny friends XD Can' enjoy a valve game lol!"
Like seriously, his comment is valid and he said it in a way that's totally non offensive. Grow the fuck up Facepunch, just because he doesn't agree with you or has a different opinion doesn't mean you should bend over backwards to look like a colossal shitbag.

What are you doing lol, only 3 people have rated him dumb and only 2 responded.
If you mean his last comment, he was acting kinda pretentious with his opinion so yeah I don't see why the reaction wasn't warranted.
People calling this an "announcement".

lmao oh my god
Do you ever consider that it might piss people at VALVE off a little that whenever they do ANYTHING, SOMEBODY goes "why the FUCK isnt this HL3"
[editline]7th August 2013[/editline]
We dont know how far along HL3 is into development, if they havent shown yet, its probably not down to the point where no major changes will be made.
Remember the HL2 beta?
Regardless L4D3 will sell well and score well so who cares if they get mad?
i like how you renamed the vid to that after you titled it valve chatlog
Is this meant to be something that matters
It's obvious as my original guess was they were making a completely new engine and HL3 will be the first game on it to showcase everything what the new engine can do.
I wish for more guns, maybe 5 variations MINIMUM to all types like in CS. For any of you saying too many is too much, I say: variation is the spice of life. Left 4 Dead LIVES on these words, thus more tools of death means more spice.
Seriously, do people have a problem with a big amount of guns? Not as an argument, but a question.
The problem with that idea is that you would be putting in a lot of effort, balancing and such for a mere illusion of variety. Sure, CS has about 5 different assault rifles, but can you really say that they function that differently from each other? At most, it might change your burst firing pattern, but they don't require an actual change in tactics like you would if you were comparing it against a sniper, rocket launcher, or shotgun. Shooters like Unreal Tournament, TF2 and Halo have a large variety of weapons, but for the most part, every single one is unique.
Versus is really holding back the potential for this series.
I kinda wish I could see hl3.exe has stopped working
It's obvious as my original guess was they were making a completely new engine and HL3 will be the first game on it to showcase everything what the new engine can do.
Well, HL2 wasn't the game that kicked off Source. I mean, they announced source with Half Life 2, but CS:S came out before that.
Plus I can imagine L4d being a much more flexible property to show off engine features with. Half Life is great and all, but they can't have much to show other than niche gravity/ portal gun-esque gameplay elements that no other dev gets to use and the occasional ultra specific engine feature for scripted events like cinematic physics. It's not quite an engine vehicle. It could be, but come on. I mean there's lighting improvements and map authoring/ quality improvements, but I feel like a more open game made for more than one player is the better venue for that kind of stuff.
Besides, I want a fucking ending with my Half Life 3. The last thing I want is a bunch of "LOOK AT ALL THESE FEATURES LOL ARE WE NEXT GEN YET" bullshit. It's been 6 years. The game could be a fucking tubefest more restricted and scripted than Battlefield 3. I just want to know what the fuck happens. Also, if they use extra special awesome new Source 2 stuff in HL3, I want it to be a surprise. Imagine if the portal storms in Episode 2 that knocked down the train and then again with the bridge later in the game never got put in trailers. That shit would have blown me the fuck away if I hadn't seen it coming.
Would you rather see a boring E3 interview where a programmer goes "Uh... yeah, we have an increased map sized limit so you can build for up to 20 miles, and we also have streaming so you can tile these together..." OR would you rather have a moment in HL(EP)3 Where you're climbing a path on a hill that suddenly opens up to the biggest most beautiful fucking vista you've ever seen?
Half Life 3 is not the kind of game I want to see clinically get its features listed in bullet points. It's become too sacred. L4d however...
Versus is really holding back the potential for this series.
I agree, though I play it frequently enough to where I don't want to see it get abandoned.

Him going "Man, zombie shit is all over the place" then getting annoyed because users try to take a shit down his throat for it isn't pretentious at all.
