Didn't they mention a surprise of some sort at the end of The International on Twitter?
care to share the tweet, please?

I can't find it... I could've sworn they'd mentioned something like that, attached to a picture of the theater setup they're using.
I know L4D3 is just a codename for HL3... I mean, they wouldn't introduce their flagship engine with something like L4D3... would they?
I can't find it... I could've sworn they'd mentioned something like that, attached to a picture of the theater setup they're using.
probably dota related stuff then.
lol, do you really think that they let a franchise die that is a complete money seller? Over 20 million sold units until today.
if they have no interest in doing it then it's not gonna be made
unlike a lot of other developers, valve doesn't operate on a leash
i don't know what they're interested in working on but it would seem HL3 hasn't been their top priority over the last 5 years 9 months and 28 days
Didn't they mention a surprise of some sort at the end of The International on Twitter?
When? Because it might just be the Free-to-Play documentary early screening.
It's crazy how people are still expecting HL3, It's not going to happen, it sucks but it's about time to get over it.
Why would Valve abandon their MAIN franchise? The franchise that gave Valve a good name?
There won't be any announcements during the international since that would take away attention.
Showing a trailer/teaser at the end would bring lots of attention.
Showing a trailer/teaser at the end would bring lots of attention.
it sounds weird, like people went there to see dota 2 stuff, not other franchises.

Since they got their new engine ready soon, we can expect a new Half Life someday.
I don't care about HL. I don't care about L4D. I just want to get my hands on Source Engine 2 and see if they managed to make it even better and easier to create content for.
That said, I'm excite nevertheless.
There won't be any announcements during the international since that would take away attention.
Not that I care about the international.
One minute trailer at the end of Gabe's speech after 5 day long marathon of Dota would hardly make anyone angry.
Damn it, on the hype train again.
I genuinely can't wait for L4D3, it's one of my favourite game series. It's really challenging but fun on Realism Expert, and when you and 3 randomers just get through it without getting fucked up too many times it's awesome at the end of it. It's a pity there aren't more vanilla campaigns, and a lot of the custom ones have compatibility issues between Workshop and L4Dmaps versions. I hope it's set like 3 months in or something and all the zombies are next level. Lots more uncommon infected with some forms of mutation, giving them certain abilities - maybe just minor versions of certain specials - basically just normal zombies with the ability to run faster and jump higher, or have a ranged attack (spit), maybe mini boomers that call all local zombies to immediately attack someone similar to the clowns, jockey-types with the ability to stumble a survivor etc etc, then specials with really fucked mutations, maybe 2 abilities each or something, one passive one active. Anyway, the atmosphere of L4D1 was better than the 2nd in my opinion, but I hope this ends up even grittier than that, more in line with what L4D was originally gonna be like - 3 months after the world's gone nuts, would power still be running anywhere? And as people have touched on, maybe more comic tie-ins, to fill the gap between every campaign, Max Payne style. Linking it with the L4D and 2 survivors would be cool too - The format the games have is pretty damn good for storytelling and the characters have all been really good - but as I said in another thread, you need to read between the lines to get the story to a fuller extent. Shit like the saferoom graffiti too. I'm gonna stop rambling and go play the 2nd one now
lol, do you really think that they let a franchise die that is a complete money seller? Over 20 million sold units until today.
hl3 could be the shitiest thing in the world and it'd still make a ton of cash
well ok there would be hate afterwards... but the title literally sells itself
I don't care about L4D3 at all, but I'm not angry that they're releasing it before HL3.
At least they get to properly test Source 2, and enhance it via regular L4D3 updates. And beyond that - imagine the cool new games they will release in the future! If Source 2 turns out to be at least as revolutionary as the Source was, we've definitely something to look forward to.
And imagine a new Garry's mod in Source 2 with whatever cool features it might have.
Why would Valve abandon their MAIN franchise? The franchise that gave Valve a good name?
Because they aren't a one hit wonder. Their other franchises are very popular too.
They can easily abandon it if they want.
How do people actually think that Valve aren't working on a new half life game, seriously?
The team (see: gaben) has been dropping hints literally all over the place.

that makes zero sense as to why they'd abandon it
if I was at valve the first fucking thing I'd do would work on hl3 and pretend it doesn't exist, screw everything else, I want to possibly make gaming history. The first thing I would do would be add mechanics and puzzles, even shit thats completely out of the way secondary with the reward of tons of shotgun ammo, jump around on devmaps like a dickhead and play the shit out of every little test we make
what? isn't valve busy with the international right now?
This just reminded me that the DOTA 2 twitter account posted a teaser image showing projection screen with a big Valve logo saying something along the lines that they get to see a tease at something.
I can't find the image now for the life of me, but I thought it would just be something for DOTA, but maybe it's something else.

Someone once asked him about Ricochet 2, and Gabe pretty much explained the whole situation about HL3 using Ricochet 2 as a codename for it.
Unless, of course, he actually meant Ricochet 2 and it's going to be a singleplayer game with an established storyline.
Can anyone make out the link in the browser? It seems like it's a subdomain of valvesoftware.com, perhaps 3 to 6 letters long

It's danielj.valvesoftware.com/p4monitor/. It's also readable without photoshop so you might want to fix the contrast on your monitor. :v:

Did I just search for 20 minutes for nothing?
Fuck.
HL3 is not going to happen for a while, and when it does its not going to live up to the hype.

After how Valve did Portal 2, and how this L4D3 thing is going right now, I highly doubt it.

Maybe the image I was looking at was lower resolution because even in photoshop separating the colours ended up with blobs of unreadable text.
Anyway as others have probably found out by now, that link does not work. It doesn't resolve, it doesn't point to anything. I tried other's names in the same format from the commit log, tedc, kerryd, etc. None of that works so they likely have all of that crap handled on a LAN.
:(
I guess I'm the only one that thinks L4D3 would be nice to showcase a new engine
