At a low enough frequency to cause someone's insides to resonate, ka would reach around 0.6, giving directionality Q of ~1 in every direction: (It's hard to tell from pictures but it's fair to assume the driver is in an enclosure, so these diagrams are not entirely accurate - it'd be +3dB at 0 degrees) Which means the geometrical scattering is far greater and radiation efficiency is also massively decreased, so much higher power would be required to achieve a respectable range (and it'd also affect the users, too... making it useless). [editline]4th December 2014[/editline]
It does make me wonder what happens if you increase the amplitude further.
You can increase it to a point (and the force felt would increase), but eventually as the amplitude increases the non-linearities will start to play a large role. This means the superposition principle this technology relies on no longer applies, so it'll stop working :( No solid/powerful "sound walls" I'm afraid! Although if you get to a point at which the sound waves are non-linear, you'll start to experience radiation pressure and the air will begin to flow away from the sound source, so you'd still feel something, just not the intended shape.
You can create soundwalls, there would just be too much environment distorting it. It'd be a ghetto sound wall.
It can be turned up. They just don't because they know it can be lethal.
Where are you getting this information?
You can create soundwalls, there would just be too much environment distorting it. It'd be a ghetto sound wall.
Inexplicable invisible walls can now become a reality.
I think what makes this so cool is that it's a brand new technology. We get gradual improvements to existing tech all the time, but this just came out of no where.
Inexplicable invisible walls can now become a reality.
Just don't give the tech to Infinity Ward...
Pepper;46632999']And bats.
Poor bats how did I forget you :(
Holy shit. I know ultrasound can do a lot of crazy things, but creating faux physical objects? That's bonkers.
Make a holographic coffee cup and wait for your victim to try 'n' pour some coffee into it.
