So does anyone know when this patch will launch?
Definitely today, anywhere between now and maybe 6PM PST.
Good to see they learned from the Soldier VS Demo War and don't force you to play the class you want to support.
I guess I'm in a minority, but I'm extremely hyped for this. I've waited years. It's too bad Valve waited nine years into the game's lifespan, though. I remember using TF2Lobby way back when, and those games were so satisfying.
I found something like this on day 2 page

Any idea what this is?

Those are "cool beans". Some tf2 dev posted online that the matchmaking update would be "cool beans", and they referenced it in the update page.
tf2 stopped being fun in 2009 and now people are playing overwatch anyway lol

Speak for yourself
Just got a 778 MB download.
Is this it?
Yeah and the balance changes kind of suck for the most part.
Yet another Heavy nerf because why not?
Who thought these balance changes were OK? Just as I finally got over my TF2 hiatus.

Heavy doesn't need more nerfs, if anything he needs something to make him more viable. Since they added the ramp up on his mini gun damage, he's become extremely weak and literally needs a full team to support him to actually be useful. No matter how good the heavy player is, if he doesn't have a team behind him, he's useless.

Yeah I was being sarcastic there. I find the constant nerfs stupid as well.
You have to play $13 fucking dollars to play a game mode what the actual fuck
If you're interested enough in actually playing Competitive Mode you would already have a premium account.

What? I've not played TF2 in years but heard about this update and got interested. A couple of my friends still play and wanted to try out this competitive thing with me. It's obvious that this would have been an update bringing back some old players so I think that making it pay-to-play was a little foolish imo
You have to play $13 fucking dollars to play a game mode what the actual fuck
or have a telephone number lol. at the least if you play free you have to pay like 2.50. it's really not that big of a deal.
The fact that people have to defend the idea that TF2 isnt dead just goes to show that it obviously is losing it's player base, regardless of how many people "still" play it

You realize that what you are saying is tanamount to,
lol, if your so innocent y do you even bother defending urself
So. What. People can just call it "dead game," and be right because any response validates them, and then in the case of no response validates itself?
It's no secret that Casual Mode has had a rough launch. We wanted to give you an update on what we're doing to address your concerns.
Short version: We hear you. Later today, we will be shipping a patch to Casual Mode that will remove the penalties for abandoning a game, and allow you to narrow your game mode selections from two modes to a single mode before queuing. Additionally, in the very near future, we will be shipping a more comprehensive Casual Mode patch that will let you select the maps you will be matched into.
We've provided a more detailed breakdown of Casual Mode's issues and how we are addressing your concerns below.
Reading through this thread is really interesting. It really reminds me of how weird it is to be part of a competitive community then go back and look at what the general player base does or how they view things.
I don't understand any of the complaining about the competitive mode from more casual players. You only need to pay if you have no way to hook a phone number up to the account and somehow never spent money in game/didn't buy it. The real complaint I have about competitive match making in game is the god awful viewmodel FOV lock that they implemented. Why can't I just use my normal settings?
I've been in two pubs already with many people complaining how it's not like old pubs. I guess they never learned there's a server browser somehow. There's still plenty of community servers that are more-or-less the same as old valve pubs if it's so desired. They've also still yet to make the default FOV not based on 4:3 monitors, so the majority of players are still looking through a pinhole.
It's weird to see the Overwatch comparison drawn again, as Valve has been working on getting match making into TF2 since 2013. The timing is more of a coincidence, if anything. The closest thing that could have happened is that Overwatch came out and made them want to ship it faster/finally.
I'm very happy Sunshine and Metalworks are finally official maps. Most of the weapon changes are fine, or at least interesting.
The pyro is in much more need of a rework than the heavy is. Pyro fills the tiniest niche, which he wasn't intended to be in, whereas heavy functions exactly as he's supposed to.
The game will be fine and I'm interested to see how they continue balancing it.

I am surprised the did the shitty 10vs10 casual gamemode for CSGO, but made all TF2 casual matches competitive styled.
Imo leaving penalties has little to do with it being casual or not, if its a 6vs6 game you're going to throw it by leaving.

uhhh
That is literally a contradiction.
