i literally just bought one yesterday, rip me
http://phandroid.com/2013/08/28/nexus-4-refund/
Shame about the pig disgusting hardware design and tacky touchpiss GUI that makes a £30 feature phone OS look tidy.
Anyone who actually cares about UI enough to dislike it just installs CyanogenMod.
Google doesn't want the nexus devices to have expendable storage because they want to push their cloud apps like google music, google movies, google magazines etc
ExFAT requires licensing from Microsoft so I'm guessing Google probably doesn't want to use it on their Nexus devices.
So does FAT32, yet it's still used.
While it solves the issue of multiple locations, how does it solve the othe large issue Google want to address. The behaviour of apps expecting data that isn't there any more? An app could save a chunk of data to the internal storage and external storage, when the external is gone what happens to the data on the internal (if it relies on the external)? Does the app break? Throw an error? Request the external media? Or just function normally? For example, a media app that creates a library file on the internal storage, which lists files on the external media. What it is the behaviour when the external is removed? It doing any of those would cause unexpected behaviour for the user, damaging the user experience slightly. But yes, the unified mount would probably solve most of the issues.
Any properly written app should be able to handle files going missing from under it, that's pretty common in case of FS corruption or so (Like the user just pointing the app at the wrong place, adding the wrong folder that has no music in it shouldn't cause a media player to freak out) If a media player app crashes because it opens a playlist that points to a missing file, it's a terrible application.
Google doesn't want the nexus devices to have expendable storage because they want to push their cloud apps like google music, google movies, google magazines etc
So they want me to pay a ridiculous amount of money for my phone bill (I'm paying $60 for 500 MB right now)
That's totally fine. I get that. But when you start charging $50 for an extra 8 gigs, you're not going to see me as a customer. Either: a.) Provide miniSD card support b.) Provide a fair amount of space for a fair price (aka $15 for an extra 8 gigs would be fine) c.) Be douchy and set the prices according to some self-made self-benefiting scale
Yeah, I got a Galaxy S4 a few weeks ago and paid only $50 for a 64gb micro sd card for it. Now my phone's got all my music right on it so I don't need Spotify or Pandora. The fact that a 64gb micro sd is the same price as 16gb extra internal memory is crazy.
While I'm suddenly very interested in upgrading my S2, it would also mean I would have to get a new SIM card due to size (I think - I can't cut those up right?).
Cut away, theres even a 5$ thing on newegg that turns nomal SIM cards into microSIM cards, just don't cut the contacts, but I think that you can turn a normal SIM into a nano SIM
Yeah you are fucked because you have two options. Get the Nexus 4 for $199 and deal with it or pay $599 for the HTC One with SD card support.
or get a galaxy S4 and have the same thing as an HTC?
or get a galaxy S4 and have the same thing as an HTC?
And you'd end up spending even more money. HTC One: $599 Galaxy S4 $650
Nexus 4 owner here, if you do buy one, be incredibly careful with it, seriously, I put mine in my pocket, pulled it out, back smashed, it fell one foot onto the ground, screen smashed and costs almost as much as the phone to replace, so invest in a good case.
Were you smashing your pocket against a corner of a counter top or something? I take my N4 to work every day which is a shop room environment and nothing like this ever occurred. User error on your part.

That is the entire point of the Nexus, you get a phone off contract for $200 versus $599 for the One, Lumia 925 and $650 for the GS4 and the iPhone 5. This phone is made for an audience that wants carriers to have no control over their device and not to be tied down to anyone. BYOD plans have lots of benefits. For example, if I were to go on Verizon, it would cost $79.99 for unlimited text/voice and 2GB of data. On T-Mobile if you bring your own device, you can get a $29.99 plan which gives you unlimited text/data and 100 minutes (easily circumvented through various VOIP solutions).
And you'd end up spending even more money. HTC One: $599 Galaxy S4 $650
Yeah, but you could get an S3, almost as good, for around $420 off Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Unlocked-Smart-Marble/dp/B0080DJ6CM Almost worth it.
