I was watching a show on the History Channel that claims that most modern religions stemmed because of aliens visiting thousands of years ago. There was some very interesting and thought provoking evidence that suggests aliens were here thousands of years ago.

My friend wants to run a 40K roleplaying game. I told him the only way I could make it through that game with my (personal) sanity is by playing a brain damaged space marine. That way I wouldn't have to deal with the whole "DIE HERETIC!!!!!" thing.

If you actually take a theology class, you learn that the Catholic and Christian religions don't actually believe in the stories in the bible. They did a long time ago, but not the modern day churches.
To them, the Bible is actually about
1/2 fairy tales used to convey some message about being a good person.
1/4 exagerations that just emphasize how rich, wise, or good someone was. The numbers and such aren't true.
1/4 real. To them at least.

That's just religion's way of saving face. Science proves a part wrong and the religious say "Yea, it was just a story to help you live a good life!" What I hate is people who pick parts of the bible to believe and throw away the rest. What makes one verse or book any more valid than another? That IMO is the ultimate corruption.

The biggest thing backwards about religion is what they believe in. We have come so far in science but people still claim there is an invisible guy somewhere pulling the strings. First they thought that god created Adam and Eve, or whatever(it's different in every religion). Now most people admit that it is a silly idea, so they have created new ways to rationalize a god and afterlife being there.
