Why is this rated winner?
Why is this rated winner?
People read the title and it mislead them.
yeah with what.cd you need to download a shitload of freeleech ones and hope to god you actually make an impact on your uploaded total; without freeleech it makes starting up on these trackers utterly uneconomical
best thing about demonoid was although it tracked ratios no one gave a shit
The best thing about demonoid was its amount of quantity and variety of torrents being a great general tracker. Maintaining a ratio on demonoid was easy.
As for what.cd and waffles.fm, building ratio is difficult without uploading a lot of stuff, even with a seedbox. The way I built a decent buffer on what.cd was "trying out" a seedbox for free and going crazy download big linux distros to the seedbox.
There was a quite a bit of malware on Demonoid, I reported something for it once and it never got taken down. Bless all those infected souls.

We can finally have all of our Linux distros again!
Hahah, sure.
I forgot my username and if I even used my actual email for it.
Whoops.
i had an account forever ago and never really used it, is there a way to log in and self delete it?

i also never got an email I don't think
demonoid has certain files that i have never been able to find on other sites.
i can't remember what, exactly, but i'm sure i will remember eventually.
Must've been amnesia
fuck yes my account from 2006 still works
Aww I lost all my stats.
Aww I lost all my stats.
yeah still says i have a good ratio but doesn't show how many GB seeded and downloaded :(
The Demonoid wiki has been revised.
d2's hosting provider, RamNode, initially suspected d2 was hosting malware and threatened suspension, but has since amended this claim, saying malware probably came from a remote banner ad.
This I can believe as it wouldn't be the first time I saw an ad service plugging malware into visitors who in turn suspected the site itself. I think even Facepunch at one time had this happen.
It also means that if you were running AdBlock Plus, you were immune to any vulnerability from the beginning.
I really Hope this turns out to be legit, I always liked demonoid.
WHOIS says it's hosted in Amsterdam, I'm not sure whether to believe it or not. Just gonna wait for more info i guess...
Uses my old email address (which has since been locked out and died) and old password. I should be alright.
So...Is Demonoid really back or is it just trying to get peoples info for malicious purposes? I am confused.

I don't think anybody really knows for sure, but we're erring on the side of caution. Apparently this site wasn't put up by the original Demonoid team, and nobody really knows how these new people got the old database.
Personally, I logged in because I'm curious. But I reset my password before logging in (in case it's phishing), and I live in Canada so I don't care whether it's a US honeypot.

Weird, mine isn't showing GB or ratio. It just says my join date and that my "rank" is "Regular user".

Yeah sorry, I refuse to visit any site that sells ad space to ad providers that host malicious content.

Yet you came to Facepunch when Garry had problems with malicious ads showing up.
Yeah sorry, I refuse to visit any site that sells ad space to ad providers that host malicious content.
It just happens, its hard to tell when a host will serve something like that. Its not like they say in their agreement "Yeah, you agree to let us put up malware-laden advertisements"
Yeah sorry, I refuse to visit any site that sells ad space to ad providers that host malicious content.
Then you'd better get the fuck off Facepunch right now before your computer burns down!!!1!1!!!
Here's the problem: they may have the user database, but the passwords are all hashed.
By getting people to login, they can match plaintext passwords to the hashes.

And then they'll do... what exactly?
Last time I checked demonoid passwords aren't going to get them anything but your demonoid account?
And then they'll do... what exactly?

Many people use the same email/password/username across many sites.
