Never store weapon with ammo. Basic firearm storage safety 101.
Keep them separated in locked safes.
Maybe in your world.
It is completely legal within our dumbass storage laws and a fine idea for quick access.
more like press 4 buttons, safe opens, pick up handgun, insert magazine. ~10 seconds.
it's illegal to have a loaded magazine in a gun safe as well as the fact as your ammunition must be separate from your firearm, also you want a gun cabinet in your bedroom?

No it's fucking not.
it's illegal to have a loaded magazine in a gun safe.
Wrong
as the fact as your ammunition must be separate from your firearm
Wrong
also you want a gun cabinet in your bedroom?
um yes?
Care to try and prove me wrong? Cause I know I am right on this topic.
Jesus christ I hope you never get your hands on a firearm.
What an excellent retort.
But he's right. The RCMP site says it can be stored in the same locked container
I can't find anything about loaded magazines but I don't think it matters

Eww I feel dirty agreeing with Aman
because you are 'supposed' to call the police in a situation like that, which in all honesty getting your gun out of a safe, taking the ammo out of a box, loading your gun probably takes a similar amount of time considering cops are pretty quick to respond.
Last data I could find for police response times to an emergency call in Toronto were an average of 15 minutes. 15 minutes in Canada's largest city. Most people who have a gun, specifically pistols, keep a loaded magazine in the safe next to, but not in, the gun, so they're still abiding by the "safe storage" laws, but can easily access the gun and readily available ammo if they need it. Some people even buy a small pistol safe for their bedroom and keep the gun in there like that. There was also a case where a man did just that, his house was being firebombed and he lived in the boonies, so he grabbed his pistol and shot at the guys doing it. He has audio and video recordings of the incident, and the guys screaming that they're going to kill him He was arrested and charged with a slew of things, but only the "unsafe storage" charges stuck. They were later quashed, and it was discovered his neighbour paid some guys to kill him because he shot the guy's dog when it was trying to kill his sheep. The man, Ian Thompson, is now trying to apply for the elusive "Authorization to Carry" permit, since his neighbour is out of prison (far too early, IMO) and police are an hour's drive away, and Mr. Thompson feels his life cannot be adequately protected by the police.
Also, none of the firebombers, despite threatening to kill him and throwing Molotovs at his house, were ever charged with attempted murder.

No they aren't, your ammo has to be locked up or stored separately.

Great reading comprehension.
This isn't even going into drawing, aiming, and firing a gun.
Okay I know it's a mistake jumping into this, but; having trained in rapidly drawing a gun in self defense, I can assure you that unless you've got it in some ridiculously complicated location or holster, you can have it out and fired in just a few seconds. Aiming is only a thing if they're actually some distance to you, in which case you're not defending yourself and you have time which makes drawing a non-issue. You use your hand and your movements to keep them from getting any nasty slashes on vital areas while you draw and shoot. It's really nowhere near as complicated as people think it is.
wow your link sure worked for your argument huh.
Did you read the whole thing?

You're ignoring the parts working against you.
Pretty sure the gun can't be loaded though

Legally yes, but as if they will ever know to begin with if you feel like keeping it loaded in the safe. It takes a split second to insert a mag.
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-fd/storage-entreposage-eng.htm

From the law itself:
http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-98-209/FullText.html
An individual may store a restricted firearm only if
(a) it is unloaded;
(b) it is
(i) rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device and stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into, or
(ii) stored in a vault, safe or room that has been specifically constructed or modified for the secure storage of restricted firearms and that is kept securely locked; and
(c) it is not readily accessible to ammunition, unless the ammunition is stored, together with or separately from the firearm, in
(i) a container or receptacle that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into, or
(ii) a vault, safe or room that has been specifically constructed or modified for the secure storage of restricted firearms and that is kept securely locked.
So yes, you can, and it is common practice to, store a gun and ammo together.

This is hilarious. It says right there "IT CAN BE STORED IN THE SAME LOCKED CONTAINER"
I don't like Aman, anything about him or his opinions, but you guys are just plain stupid and he's right
Legally yes, but as if they will ever know to begin with if you feel like keeping it loaded in the safe. It takes a split second to insert a mag.
I keep my gun unloaded just because I had younger brothers who watched me open the safe and did it themselves.
Also because it's the law and I like it
Also unloaded doesn't just mean no magazine in the gun, it means bullets out of magazine and not ready to be fired.
Again, maybe in your bizzaro world of terms.
A magazine is not a firearm and it has nothing to do with the legal term of unloaded.

all the power to you.
I also don't like you too buddy
No they aren't, your ammo has to be locked up or stored separately.
Most people have a "gun room," in that room is their safe and their ammo. The safe is locked up, with the guns in it, and the ammo is often stored in the same room outside the safe, often not locked up. It doesn't need to be, as the guns are already locked up, stored "separately." People often can, and do, leave some ammo, a mag or two, in the safe with the guns, as they can be stored together in a safe or room designed specifically to store guns.

I hate this particular law, as well as our entire firearms act, because it's constructed around the fabrication of criminal offences for otherwise and previously law-abiding citizens to commit. The firearms act doesn't even cover the criminal misuse of guns, just criminalizes different ways you can own, store, and transport them. The laws are so arbitrary that just about every gun owner in the country could be charged for something if the police decided they wanted to. I despise hearing the words "I like it" from a gun owner in this country, the gun laws are some of the most disgusting, convoluted, ineffectual, and unconstitutional legislation ever written into law in this country.

I like it too, there is no reason for someone to an fully automatic weapon or a weapon with a large magazine.
I'm not the one that claimed it was law, am I?
I said it was basic firearm safety to have them unloaded and separated. The link confirms that being a good idea.

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-98-209/FullText.html
“unloaded”
“unloaded”, in respect of a firearm, means that any propellant, projectile or cartridge that can be discharged from the firearm is not contained in the breech or firing chamber of the firearm nor in the cartridge magazine attached to or inserted into the firearm. (non chargée)
Again, wrong. A gun is only loaded if a round is in the chamber or a loaded magazine is inserted into or attached to a gun. Having a loaded mag in the safe is not the same as having a loaded gun.
I like it too, there is no reason for someone to an fully automatic weapon or a weapon with a large magazine.
You ooze knowledge on the subject at hand.
I think I'm gonna conclude arguing, thread has been thrown off the tracks and into a river.
