That's cute, did you go to a gun range once and now you feel armed with knowledge?
Least I am above the legal age for ownership, you look about 15 in your picture :v:

I am flattered.
And yes those were dark times.

there is a gmod community attempting to dox me actually that's actually not mine, I rather jump off a cliff then post pictures of a vidya game on my facebook wall.
it was funny as shit because he added me on steam and said
"Uh hello, your name is Eric Harper right?"
I just blocked him after that.
I like it too, there is no reason for someone to an fully automatic weapon or a weapon with a large magazine.
I have reasons I want to own an automatic weapon, I want them for the collector's and historical value, as well as for a fun range toy. I also work with a guy who used to hunt with an automatic weapon before they banned them in '76. As for large magazine, magazine laws are some of the most ineffectual parts of that legislation, as they are circumvented so easily they're a bloody joke. There's also a valid purpose in sport shooting for IPSD, IDPA, Service Rifle, and 3-gun to have a standard-capacity magazine of ~30 rounds.
What I hate is that a man can be charged by an ignorant police officer for abiding by the law because the cop doesn't know it, or that a man can be charged for defending himself with something totally not even related to using the gun, or that I need to ask for fucking permission to take a handgun anywhere but my house for literally no good reason, that if my gun license expired I'm instantly a criminal, no grace period or anything, and that the government banned a bunch of guns simply because they "looked scary," not for nay valid criminal, functional, or any good reason really.
Our gun laws have been proven ineffectual, a landmark, and to my knowledge one-of-a-kind study of the effects of our gun laws from 1973 until 2008 showed that no law enacted in that period, not the ban on autos, not the ban on magazines, not all the arbitrary bans and the banning of short-barrelled pistols, not the so-called "safe storage" and "safe-transport" laws, not even the introduction of a gun licensing system itself has done anything beneficial for crime rates in this country. Our gun laws don't work, they are useless wastes of paper and court time.

better off with a gun debate then a gay rights debate, atleast FP is learning.

You don't need an automatic weapon for hunting, that isn't even overkill that's like super overkill also I don't think 'fun range toy' is a justifiable reason either, if you want it for 'historical value' you can get one that is decommissioned.
I just don't think anyone should own an automatic weapon there is literally no use for it.

I wish I had a funny sarcastic comment but honestly I do agree that our gun laws are piss awful in most regards
Obviously I don't want the same 2nd Amendment type thing you two want but yeah we need some serious changes

There is "literally" no use for owning some ridiculous souped up sports car. People still do. It's called recreation.
Also yes I opened the can of worms that is comparing a car to a gun.

Insults get you nowhere in an argument. When in an "intellectual" debate it's facts, when it's a "public" debate it's emotion, but unless it's a schoolyard shitfit insults have no place.

that's a lot different from owning a gun, some people enjoy racing as well as it is a symbol of status that you can show off.
You can't show off a gun publicly and have someone go "oh man he must be so rich, he has x and y"

Okay, I can agree that having a loaded firearm sitting around can unsafe if you have kids - or idiots - that might grab it and play with it, but what is the point of having a gun for home defense if the ammunition is not in it or nearby it? I know living in the States has given me a biased outlook, but it seems kinda useless to have a pistol in a safe beside your bed and all the ammunition locked up and out of magazines in a completely different room. At that point the gun's basically a really expensive paper weight to throw at someone.

But in Canada you aren't supposed to use your gun for self defense, period. I don't agree with it but you are supposed to call the cops.

Hah, on the contrary sure you can.
You just have to actually be involved in and understand the hobby. You can easily spot a rich person from their firearms.
You are just out of the loop dude, you are arguing against a hobby you seem to know little about but you want to be the authority on it and make laws regarding it.
Generally when I know nothing on a subject I try to be humble and not overbearing.
But since the topic is SCARY GUNS everyone and their uncle has to throw in their idiotic opinion.

There are status symbol guns too
Like a Desert Eagle, or something like that. It's needlessly powerful, large, and shiny
Like a supercar

yeah but do they show them in public?
is the gun you have a representation of your lifestyle?

yeah but how does somebody know you have a deagle unless you are at a gun range showing off, being all proud of it?
A car is something you always have with you.

You see no use, I see plenty of use. I'd love to own a Thompson. My wallet would kill me, but it would be great fun at the range. To be honest, I didn't expect you to agree with having an auto as a plinker, but that's as much of a reason as any, and it's one of the reasons I want one. As for hunting, you know most autos have selector switches, right? Just because the gun has automatic function, doesn't mean you were necessarily using it at that time. As for deactivated, part of the value, the history, the beauty of the engineering, and indeed even the art of the firearm is in the function of the gun. I lose a major part of the historical significance if I cannot provide a full demonstration and breakdown of the function, operation, and takedown of a gun. Only so much can be read in books and pointed at on essentially a 3-D diagram, seeing and doing it in person is an entirely different experience, and you learn a lot more from doing than from reading.
yeah but do they show them in public?

1. uh yea somewhat, define "public".
2. if you want it to be I guess. It's all subjective. I know very little about cars, they don't interest me much. I don't see the point of view that a car can be a representation of your lifestyle but I can see that others may feel that way.
Ah good work defeating my overused "meme" by saying that if I don't support shooting anyone that mildly threatens you I'm a sheltered suburban child

Remind me that if I ever need a place to stay I can just come over to your house and kill you because you obviously aren't going to do fuck all about it.

why does it even matter?
The rationale is we shouldn't be able to own certain guns cause we can't flaunt them?
This argument is taking weird turns. And I said I'd stop. Fuck.

Not really. I wouldn't drive a tricked out Mustang or Ferrari to and from my menial desk job every day, I'd save it for trips or shows and or whatever
Just like I wouldn't lug around that Israeli piece of shit with me, I'd save it for my mates at the gun club

no my point is that you are comparing a car which is very different to a firearm, there are ways they are similar and ways they are different but they are very different in a lot of ways.
yeah but do they show them in public?

You can't exactly show off your F-1 racer unless you're at a track, but it's still a status symbol. People also like keeping pictures of their prized guns on their phone. I've had people show me video at my job of them blowing watermelons to pieces with a S&W 500. There's plenty of ways to show off your status with a stupidly expensive and impractical "toy," though if handgun hunting were legal, you could hunt deer with a Deagle, giving it a greater purpose than a status symbol and "range toy."

If you owned a high end car, you'd probably want to show that thing off every day.
