Not really because of salt in the winter and the waste of the car in heavy traffic.
Plus, guns cannot just be "had" like a fucking movie. You have to maintain them, clean them, practice with them and get a feel for them. You have to go through at least a few legal hoops to get one and have to get certified to carry one. And then you need conceal-carry warrants.
This isn't even going into drawing, aiming, and firing a gun. The psychological trauma of having fucking shot someone, the recoil, legal repercussions, and monetary repercussions of using a gun in self-defense.
Honestly, for the amount of money and effort that it takes to get a gun, I'd rather just risk having to go 'unarmed' (like a normal person) around and if I get assaulted, then I have my body and nearby objects to defend myself
(if I even need to, since evidently because I live in a suburban area I'm free from being accosted, scot-free, despite having been threatened and chased before in the area I live in. Guess those were just dreams and my area is totally 200% safe and clean and white.)
I'm not trying to big myself up here, but I love how Aman didn't respond to this because it's a cogent argument. Ell oh ell.
It's to increase the amount of steps a child or home intruder would have to go through to get their hands on it.
My sisters BF also sometimes leaves the door to the house wide open and unlocked. An intruder could walk in and get their hands on a loaded shotgun in under 5 seconds. He has completely neglected to store it properly.
Again, I can understand it's dangerous to leave it sitting around loaded if you have a kid that's going to play with it. But you didn't really counter my argument. If an intruder is going to get it before you, you're probably not in the house so it doesn't really matter how long they take. If you are in the house, they still have to somehow get into the safe to get the firearm itself. And that includes cracking whatever combination or password or whatever you've got. And hopefully by the time they've managed that, you'll have noticed them and then either called the cops or scared them away. And then called the cops.

winter.. tires?
that's a thing over there in eastern canada right?

Salt rusts out car frames
I mean it's salt
You can get the undercoating but if I have a dinky four door sedan I'm not going to take my very expensive supercar out in the slush, salt, and ice
If you owned a high end car, you'd probably want to show that thing off every day.
No, you'd get it dirty and risk having it in a terrible accident, not to mention every mile on the engine is dollars down the drain. Many people with cars like that keep them in the garage except for the rare occasion on the track or at a car show, and they often trailer the car there, because it keeps it looking good and it keeps the mileage down. The more a car is used, the less it;s worth too, if you use a Ferrari as a "daily-driver," it loses value due to use, deterioration, and wear on the parts and engine. It's another thing people would keep photos of on their phone, and only bring out on rare occasions.

So you're going to buy a car just to have it sit in a garage?
1. uh yea somewhat, define "public".
2. if you want it to be I guess. It's all subjective. I know very little about cars, they don't interest me much. I don't see the point of view that a car can be a representation of your lifestyle but I can see that others may feel that way.
Like where you would take a car, shopping mall, restaurant, even the roadways.

I've heard of a collector who was on vacation, he had a literal vault where he stored his guns. Some robbers took 2 days with a blowtorch to break into the vault and take his guns. If you're not there, and they want them, they'll get them.

Shouldn't he have gotten an alarm or something?
See, beating the gay out of people does work!

There are plenty of people who do just that, they buy a car and keep it in the garage for special occasions. Usually it's something fancy, an old MG, a Shelby Cobra, a Ferrari, even a Rolls Royce. Sometimes it's an old muscle car they rebuilt themselves, and old Camaro or Mustang. People buy or build these things mainly to look pretty, not to use them every day.

Buddy of mine has had two gun safes full of guns stolen from his house. He stopped buying them until he had a kid. They're basically a big grab bag for fire-arms.
Shouldn't he have gotten an alarm or something?
Would have been a good idea, but when you have a vault you kinda expect it's invincible. Also, alarms can be disabled in various ways, most alarms run through the phone/cable lines.
I'm not trying to big myself up here, but I love how Aman didn't respond to this because it's a cogent argument. Ell oh ell.
Well you asked;
Plus, guns cannot just be "had" like a fucking movie. You have to maintain them, clean them, practice with them and get a feel for them.
wow so difficult.
You have to go through at least a few legal hoops(?) to get one and have to get certified to carry one. And then you need conceal-carry warrants(?).
uh I don't know how many countries laws you are mushing together but that applies to no country that I can think of. Also lol'd at calling it a conceal-carry warrant, is that what cops use when they kick in your door?
This isn't even going into drawing, aiming, and firing a gun.
it's called practice, and being like ~20ft from your target isn't overly difficult to hit.
The psychological trauma of having fucking shot someone
better them than me. I'm a sociopath anyway.
the recoil
am I shooting a desert eagle one handed limp wristed? Guns don't jump out of your hand
legal repercussions, and monetary repercussions of using a gun in self-defense.
I can agree with this, but it's because of how shit our system is. Blame the victim first and passionately try and convict them. Fucking crown.
Honestly, for the amount of money and effort that it takes to get a gun
again I don't know what country you are referring to. In Canada the minimum(ish) cost for obtaining a firearm is ~$125 and a pants on head easy written test. You can buy an SKS and a crate of ammo(1000+ rounds) for ~$300. (for an example of a cheap firearm)
I'd rather just risk having to go 'unarmed' (like a normal person)
clearly large swathes of people in the US and around the world aren't normal cause they don't conform to being defenseless and proud like many Britons seem to be
around and if I get assaulted, then I have my body and nearby objects to defend myself
maybe a gun?
(if I even need to, since evidently because I live in a suburban area I'm free from being accosted, scot-free, despite having been threatened and chased before in the area I live in. congratulations.
Would have been a good idea, but when you have a vault you kinda expect it's invincible. Also, alarms can be disabled in various ways, most alarms run through the phone/cable lines.
most alarms default to an alarmed state when they a phone line is disabled, but regardless the alarm would have likely scared off the robbers.
most alarms default to an alarmed state when they a phone line is disabled, but regardless the alarm would have likely scared off the robbers.
If they show up with a blowtorch, they're not leaving because of loud noises. They're there for something and they're going to get it.
If they show up with a blowtorch, they're not leaving because of loud noises. They're there for something and they're going to get it.
If they came with a blowtorch, they would've known or expected an alarm. They were probably surprised when it didn't have one.
If they show up with a blowtorch, they're not leaving because of loud noises. They're there for something and they're going to get it.
if it was for 2 days they could have left and came back with one.
I don't particularity have a huge issues with gun laws in Canada, so long as legal and safer alternatives (bows in crossbows) remain easy to acquire. A nice 150-200# crossbow will be damn near impossible for any child to arm so they are rather safe to have around the house.
Unfortunately I've seen a fair bit of alarmist proposals to ban crossbows, especially in Burnaby and Victoria (plus the media sensationalizing that goes along with it), and bows would honestly not be far behind if crossbows ever were banned. The "slippery slope," sadly, is a tangible threat in Canada.
The gun laws aren't a huge issues as far as all encompassing weapon ownership goes, but I don't like the fear-mongering attitude a lot of leftist Canadians have towards weapons in general. Despite being an NDP voter I often have to distance myself from the moronic hivemind attitude leftists have towards guns, and weapons in general.
Welcome to Canada, where defending yourself is apparently a bad thing and discouraged.
Fucking pathetic society we live in.
i like how you say pathetic society not in response to the gay person being beat up, but in response to your society supposedly saying you cant defend yourself
do not give fp members guns, tia
i like how you say pathetic society not in response to the gay person being beat up, but in response to your society supposedly saying you cant defend yourself

I think both are pathetic. Thanks for the vain attempt at trying to make me look homophobic/non caring though. And you can note I was replying to someone in context.
Well you asked;
Thanks.
wow so difficult.
yeah dunno man lol two weeks of practice and forms and stuff is just chumpchange time to me i mean shit lol.
uh I don't know how many countries laws you are mushing together but that applies to no country that I can think of. Also lol'd at calling it a conceal-carry warrant, is that what cops use when they kick in your door?
You generally fucking require a permit to carry a gun concealed. I was using US law as a reference, I've spoken to numerous people who have CCW's on other boards and they've told me what I said earlier.
it's called practice, and being like ~20ft from your target isn't overly difficult to hit.
So you basically just admitted to not being able to defend yourself if the target is closer to you than 20 feet? Good job. What if someone knocks you over the back of your head as you're going towards your front door, or somebody pops out of a doorway and hits you?
better them than me. I'm a sociopath anyway.
No you aren't, and no you aren't. You'd also be excluded from wielding a weapon in any first-world country if you were genuinely sociopathic, and you would probably be undergoing some kind of therapy. Argument invalidated. You're excluded from wielding a gun because of your supposed sociopathy rather than your 'pathetic society'.
am I shooting a desert eagle one handed limp wristed? Guns don't jump out of your hand
You have a mild point, but if you're panicked, in the middle of being attacked, and a guy is trying to batter your head in, the recoil WILL be an issue.
I can agree with this, but it's because of how shit our system is. Blame the victim first and passionately try and convict them. Fucking crown.
lol well done ramming your agenda into the arse of something that didn't need it. this is nothing to do with the Crown either, the US practices it too.
again I don't know what country you are referring to. In Canada the minimum(ish) cost for obtaining a firearm is ~$125 and a pants on head easy written test. You can buy an SKS and a crate of ammo(1000+ rounds) for ~$300. (for an example of a cheap firearm)
Don't know what kind of sheltered, rich suburban life you lead, but $425 isn't 'cheap' for something you may never need. Also, an SKS isn't a fucking concealed weapon, is it?
clearly large swathes of people in the US and around the world aren't normal cause they don't conform to being defenseless and proud like many Britons seem to be
It's not normal to carry a fucking firearm, no. Also thanks for being borderline nationalist and offensive towards my nationality. When we reclaim Canada, I'll be sure to direct the tea-napalm-bombs to your neighbourhood first.
maybe a gun?
When in the gibbering fuckbugs would a gun be a nearby object?
congratulations.
Wow, you're actually a pretty risible person aren't you? You're hardly a sociopath otherwise you wouldn't take this kind of relishment in being a prick towards other people.
Fleetwood represent
I was born and raised in Surrey my whole life and let me tell you, Guildford isn't somewhere you wanna be at night anymore, Police have cracked down on the old heavy gang/homeless areas and have pretty much forced them into smaller suburban areas like Guildford and some other parts of the city like Newton bus loop
Many people have been shot and killed in and near Guildford mall. Usually gang related but crazy nonetheless, I also remember the nightclub across the street having to bring the police there almost every night because somebody would get really drunk and wander off into the back alleys of all the retail stores looking to mess some dude up just because it's night and nobodys around to witness
Guildford has sorta become the new Surrey Central and Surrey Central is now a cop station lol
If homophobes didn't beat him up, then the fashion police would.
He should start thingkin straight next time.
[editline]13th October 2013[/editline]
Maybe he should consider carrying something for personal defense.
His boyfriend.
Holy shit. I live in Guildford and I've never had any problems even though sometimes I look like a right poof.
Holy shit. I live in Guildford and I've never had any problems even though sometimes I look like a right poof.
I think you live in the wrong Guildford, Surrey?
I think you live in the wrong Guildford, Surrey?
Well fuck my nipples. For 23 years I've never known there was another Guildford, Surrey in the whole world.
Well we do have a skate park in this Guildford too. And gays.
Welcome to Canada, where defending yourself is apparently a bad thing and discouraged.
Fucking pathetic society we live in.
While I do like the idea of being able to carry my viking sword, katana or warclub around with me, it doesnt appeal to me that I would be forced to use it on a regular basis otherwise I would stop going out all together.
