What about the people who don't feel comfortable/safe on public transport
What about the people who don't feel comfortable/safe on public transport
They should invest some of that money into a therapist.
So...the soloution to this is that MP's be forced to get the bus to work, they're the biggest fucking scroungers of the lot. Hell, a while back MP's despite looking to cut costs everywhere, denied a reduction of money going towards food and shit in the HoL because "it'd reduce the quality of our champagne." Catering alone for the HoL costs 1-2 million pounds every year, and thats just for food let alone the other benefits MP's get.
even if you can't afford a car there is simply no way you can tell me you can't afford this if you own a home / live in an apartment unless you're screwed with debt and medical bills

I would legitimately use this too
even if you can't afford a car you should be able to afford something similar to a car that has a motor + is treated under the same laws
Depends entirely on circumstances, for me personally with the benefits im on, yeah I couldn't afford to own/run it. People in the UK doen't get as high benefits as you might think, although that view is distorted by the media's portrayal of fraudulent benefits claimants (of which fraud claimants are about 2% of all claims)
I'd understand this if it was only used in situations where a car is completely unnecessary but other than that this is crazy
So do I read this right, that person thinks that instead of cycling people should travel by bus? Riding a bike instead of a bus, right?
How is this gonna decrease the cars on the roads?
common sense? did they figure that maybe people didn't pay for their car with benefits, and bought them before they had to rely on unemployment benefit?
is everyone in the uk oblivious to the concept of short-term unemployment?
Keep treating the poor like the sub human garbage they are
Fuck, your politicians use as many fucking buzzwords as ours do.
MUH TAXES
YOUR TAXES!
THE TAXPAYERS MONEY!
OH NO! HOW DARE PEOPLE TRY TO FUCKING LIVE!
Um aren't said benefit recipients also tax payers themselves, thereby they aren't technically spending "everyone's" money they are also theoretically spending their money that they have paid into the system. Hypothetically of course since its asinine to lable specific bits of money, yet politicians rant about it all the time
I mean after all its not like being poor isn't a choice right?...right?
It kind of makes sense actually. Claimants get the bus free or reimbursed.
I couldn't really work out how I could ever afford a car without a job.
You can claim bus fare back if you use the bus to get to the job centre or interviews, you take the ticket in and get your money back. You can also claim £100 to use towards interview clothing if you don't own anything smart
On the subject of cars the green party want to make car usage for the rich with their own policy which is far worse than this gentlemans statement this is actually in the green parties manifesto.
EC784 Road fuel duties are important in encouraging drivers to become mileage conscious. As far as is practical the costs of motoring should rise in line with increased car usage, to make increase car use less attractive and encourage the use of public transport. Fuel taxes should therefore be increased to incorporate Road Fund Licence ("tax disc").
