well I've heard from one of my friends that the loans next year aren't going to fully cover everything that he would have to pay for, and he can't get a job in our town, ergo he can't really go. I'm here and I can't really afford to be here honestly, I don't know if I'm going to have money by the end of the year to eat.
afaik the maintenance loan amount isn't changing, so why is that any different to current university students? (and i'm excluding the tuition loan since you never see any of it anyway) [editline]10th November 2011[/editline] also where do you live?
that's happened with me, I can't really go out drinking unless other people are buying me drinks, which makes me feel like shit to be honest because I know I won't be able to return the favour for a long time
Also people who say get work, lets face it what will a 2 day job earn you really when you could be using the time to get a better grade the trade off just isn't worth it
I'm in Canterbury now, but I come from a pretty economically deprived area in Essex
Winner winner no seriously. Make sure when you fill out the Student finance form to look into the bursary section and MAKE SURE YOU ALLOW THEM TO SHARE the information with your university more than likely the uni has a bursary system that will rely on this information to figure out what your allowed to claim for.
i wouldn't say 3.5-4 hours of study a day equates to a full time university course, but i guess it depends on what you're studying
Good point most of my friends are studying computer Science and we have been tinkering with computers for a good while now, and all have jobs in the field of study. But it is possible 2 hrs of studying a day really does you in as long as you are paying good attention in class, but then again it does depend on what you are studying. I could see how a med student or lawyer would have a much tougher time.
US complains about rising gas prices enough, let us have this. I was going to uni, now I can't and I have to rethink my life because of this
You could pose as a chav and rob MPs houses until you get enough cash to go to university
It's like they're trying to force us to become even more uneducated. Paying 30-50k to get a university degree, with another 15k of debt and then trying to save up enough to pay for a house all with a £15,000 salary? What a fucking joke
You do realise with the new cap you need to be earning at least something like 26,000 pounds a year before you pay it back? So if you were earning 15k you wouldn't be paying any of your student loan at all. Not that I agree with the rise but just wanted to point that out (unless it has changed again).
it's £21,000 a year
It's 21,000 and if you go to university and end up being paid 15,000 what is the point?
I had a long post typed up but was like fuck it this is facepunch keep it straight to the point. You leave school 16 you get a trade lets take plastering you earn 140 a day MAX at the moment this is when you are 40 and you have the experience. Now lets take a degree it allows you work in a better paid field. EVERYONE starts off at the bottom you work your way up by the time the degree student reaches 40 in theory he should be on better pay.

So the government saying that people have to pay some of that back at a really low rate at basically 0% interest is really very selfish of students, especially considering the conditions of the repayment! It could be so much worse, people could have to pay for it entirely themselves and not even get any sort of financial aid. The world is in massive economic turmoil and still people expect everything handed on a plate or complain when things go against them in any way, we should all be accepting these measures and doing our best to help the country progress forwards. But no, we get students protesting, civil servants striking, all sorts and it's a joke it's costing the country more and those groups are only interested in themselves and don't seem to care that they're bringing this country to it's knees.
Why is this allowed?
Because money is bullshit :P
Because money is bullshit :P
It looks powerful dontcha' think?
When you fuck over your economy that's what you get. UK turning into little America? Kinda cute though.
