Only brown and gray shooter I've ever bought was bc2 and good lord. Never again.
I say let the people who actually enjoy these games buy them over and over again. I'll stick to things that won't have a sequel in a few weeks.
what is a brown and gray shooter?
Playing in a flashback gives this feeling of... of that everything has already happened and you're just going through it once again. Anything you do seems so meaningless, while in other CoD games you get the feeling that you're about the write history.
Also the flashbacks often felt like they tried to put you in as many countries and places as they possibly could in a single game. Kind of like MW3
This is just my opinion about it though, besides the flashbacks I also simply didn't like the whole story
thanks for detailing, not a lot of others seem to do that.
I'm actually excited to see what treyarch has planned.
I bet I'm going to get rated down, but I actually really liked Call Of Duty: Black Ops. Yes, COD games aren't really innovative and are a bit of a cash cow, but they're genuinely fun games. Battlefield 3 is awesome, I own it on PC/Origin and it's a fantastic game, however, when you're bored and just want to relieve some stress/kick some ass then it's much easier to just log on to Steam, double click COD and get in some fun action arcade FPS gameplay without too much pressure on teamwork/strategy.
If you don't take COD games too seriously, and treat them more as a 'arcade' game than a real-life simulator shooter kind-of game (Like Battlefield 3/ARMA) then it can be really fun.
Downrating a post that says "I have fun playing video games" isn't normal.
But on Facepunch it is.

I agree, I just get annoyed as hell when other people do take CoD seriously, which is very common
Hell, check my Steam account. I have MW2, and on GfWL I have WaW (I regret getting it for Windows but whatever)
Let me put it this way, the story isn't exactly bad in the sense that I play it and go "this is just terrible," it's bad in the same way an action movie can be. The story just seems like filler content justifying the action. Now in my case, I like story in my games. I like deep interesting story that makes me think or in general just more of a real story than CoD provides, which is partly why I am not a big CoD fan.
That's your opinion, there are, however, parts to CoD stories that have a certain depth to them. Another thing is characters, they do build up characters. As much as I prefer deep concepts in stories, to the point where it's a bit too abstract for peoples tastes, I do like character development.
Take Bad company 1, not 2 because that storyline is dead to me, it doesn't have any particularly deep concepts. It's a comedy game centred around 4 soldiers looking for gold. However, you get highly attached to the characters because they do such a great job with building up their personalities.

That's in the multiplayer, and it'd be insane to say it's entirely prevalent in CoD only.
what is a brown and gray shooter?
A shooter where the color pallet is almost exclusively limited to brown and gray. Lots of desert and lots of misty, rocky jungles.
They will add like a few guns, skins, and a few perks along with a short as shit story.
Woo
you forgot a recycled map pack

My personal favorite in the CoD series is CoD 3
What if, against all probability, they really did do something fresh new and innovative?
Then the people who actually buy CoD would complain about it being too different, and it wouldn't sell well.
What if, against all probability, they really did do something fresh new and innovative?
Then I might consider buying it.
But then again, this is the same company that made (and therefore milked the hell out of) Guitar Hero remember?

An FPS that uses a brown and grey colors a lot, or just a way of saying a shooter that follows the trends of other popular shooters.

Well, I don't mind those, as it provides a gritty look to the game, and most shooters are kinda gritty.

Publishers are damaging yes, but that's like saying ANY battlefield game will be bad because EA is a bunch of shitheads.

This is entirely speculative.
The best of Cod is Mw2 still i think.
2's the best one.
If it's MW, then it's CoD4.

No, I'm saying that this is a company that is extremely well known for and therefore has a history of milking a series until it dies, and refusing to innovate

Ultimately it's not their decision, however, they can be entirely convincing to the developer.

You realize that Activision owns (not just publishers for) Treyarch and IW right?

That's my point, they can pretty much rule over the developer. To extend, regardless if they're the parent company or not.
Blame the fans.
Black Ops was amazing, can't see why everyone didn't like it. The story was down to a personal level on terms of scale and it compromised between modern weapon and old weapon style, and it had a ton of neat features like dolphin-diving. That and the PC version got a ton of extra goodies and post-release support unlike the console versions.

You mean the teenagers that squirt themselves whenever they hear of a new COD game?
Is anyone here shocked? I actually laughed so damn hard, MW3 has been our for a little less than 4 months and they are already planning a new ~Action Packed Cinematic Experience~

Even the teens who don't realize how crappy the games have become are wondering why they announced one so early.
You have to word it differently.
Our franchise is up there because it is always two steps ahead of its competitors. That's why we made our team sweat day and night to come up with a completely brand new high definition visual graphic user experience that will take the immersion of the player to a whole new level and allows us to explore the real depths of player customization this console generation has to offer. We also made radically different changes to our skill-based ability unlocking tree algorithm engine that will take the best of the old game and combine it with daring new ideas we'd like to introduce in our next installment of the glorious supreme leader of the genre.
And this is what we here on the internet like to call Bullshit

They are made by two different developers, so they have probably been making this one since Black Ops came out. A 2 year development cycle, particularly for a game that uses more or less the exact same engine (doubt Treyarch would change it up, IW usually leads that) is standard fare in the industry.

Anyone remember this? Last good CoD in my opinion.
You shouldn't blame Activision for this, I would do the exact same thing if i were them, you need to blame the players and the people who buys the game. They are the ones keeping it running the same by actually supporting them to milk it more.
CoD4 was the best game ever to me. Before it became full of bullcrap. Tryhard quickscopers, dropshotters, shit talkers, but most of all HACKS. I miss when I first started playing it, those were the days. It was the first game I had ever played on Xbox LIVE.

Exactly, and I don't think everyone in the world will just up and stop buying their stuff. So I think they'll be around for a little while longer.
Beta was lots of fun. It was the most fun I had in a while.
Black Ops was okay.
A shooter where the color pallet is almost exclusively limited to brown and gray. Lots of desert and lots of misty, rocky jungles.
i don't think i could ever call bad company 2's color pallet limited to brown and gray
well i guess black ops was a big innovation over mw2 in being clunky and having the points system
It also introduced a new story, along with a new setting. That's what made it what it is. Treyarch is good with that stuff. IW separated the MW series into 3 games, for one story. With Black Ops, it was just a nice short campaign. The only relation it has with WaW is Reznov.
