I just couldn't resist.
That's too bad.
He was only suspended for a few days. He can catch up.
But he's still being punished. He has, through no fault of his own, been placed at disadvantage.
these people are FUCKING CRAZY
"this treating the victim as a contributor problem is NEW SPEAK 1984 in the worst way" has... has he actually read 1984? I don't know why I'm bothering to analyse this shit, it's like spending 20 minutes in a mental asylum.
Very silly on whoever chose this for the student. He put his life on the line too to disarm the gun man, and then get's suspended. Ok kids, next time: Don't stop the problem, don't be the solution! :v:
Moral of the story is: school administrators would prefer it if you just sit there with your hands in your pockets and somebody get shot in the head. Of course, they'd probably still suspend you for being in the vicinity of a weapon. Zero tolerance policies are knee-jerk insanity, thought up by people who couldn't run a daycare properly, let alone a large school.
It's probably best that he stays out for a few days, what if the kid he disarmed had some homies who would have attacked him?
It's funny because if hadn't done anything, he would probably get suspended. The same shit happens at my school, if you witness, watch, or even egg on the fight, you can possibly suspended for being apart of it iirc.
I guess this is standard procedure. I'd be upset once he tries to appeal his suspension and he isn't let off.
I'm sorry, but, why do you care about being suspended? Take it as a few days off. He could take it as a reward. It's not much of a punishment. I know people at my school loved it, because it doesn't really mean anything. And yes, I'm aware it's the premise of /why/ he was suspended, but anyone who knows what and why it happened wouldn't care about that. You think his parents are going to punish him for getting suspended? No, because they know what he did.
You have to hate Zero Tolerance policies, you get in even more trouble for trying to defend yourself than the guy trying to beat you up.
You get in trouble even if you don't do anything. I had gotten into a fight back when I was in eighth grade. This kid started hitting me after someone shoved him (he thought I did it), and I didn't do anything since I didn't want to get in trouble. I reported him to the assistant principal, with witnesses saying I didn't do anything, but I still got suspended for a week and had Saturday school because I was involved in a fight.

I got suspended in grade 9 for choking a bully into unconsciousness that was beating up a nerdy 7th grade kid I was connected at the dick with. (Our schools are 1-12 grade with the only thing keeping the grades apart is an SRO that was breaking up another fight on the opposite end of the school) I had heard that fatfuck was a gigantic piece of shit that picked on kids constantly, but Walker (nerdboybro) had called him a fat fuck to his face and told him to go fuck off and find someone else to pick on because he wasn't putting up with this shit anymore. Which was magnificent coming from this kid that looked like fucking Mclovin'.. I shit you not, he looks just like him. Instant right hook, knocked out cold. Fatfuck kicks him repeatedly, Then here comes Zakk the spiderman hopping up onto the slippery behemoths back and wrapping my lanky ass arm around his throat so tight that it could shatter a diamond. I held on as tight as I could with him swinging me everywhere and kids screaming at me to get off him (Like that's going to stop me, bitch please.) until he eventually just turned like a pinkish-purplish color and collapsed. I sprained my wrist during that too during the landing, plus the INTENSE THROAT CRUSHING ACTION Must have been quite the sight, too, because I'm like 6 feet tall and weigh 100 pounds going up against an 11th grader that was fucking gigantic. Like Slenderman choking out the hulk. Feel the wrath of my noodle arms, you fat bastard. Choke on them.
ok now you're just acting like people are going to blame him later on what also oh god the comments if you think FP is misreading guys then wow :v: these people are FUCKING CRAZY
I don't think they are, except for the uberchristian. It makes perfect sense.
I don't think they are, except for the uberchristian. It makes perfect sense.
yes but when you understand they suspended for investigation not punishment, then ehhh I can understand the anger if you think it is but that's not the case at all. Plus, they EXTREMELY sensationalize liberals to an insane degree of cynicism.
Last I checked a suspension is a punishment?
Except in this case it's probably just the school wanting to make sure all those involved are okay.
I think of this less as being punished with a suspension and more as being rewarded with a couple of days off school.
why are people reacting like this? there was an incident at school and both parties got suspended for mostly a couple of days until things settle for a bit and details come forward. it's not like they're trying to punish the guy for being a hero.
Because to those of us that don't slack off in school and do fuck all nothing, such as kids in IB/AP/Honour classes, missing a few days can completely fuck you over for the quarter. I missed ONE day in my french class, ONE day, and I had a 40% F in that class, I dropped from a 99% A, to a fucking F because I missed one day of class, this wasn't even a test day or anything, it was a normal day. I had to work my ass off all week just to get back up to a 91.23%.
This is the problem with our society..
Maybe he's being suspended partly for his own safety? The school doesn't know if this was gang or conflict related, and maybe they will attempt to target the kid that stopped the gun wielding kid? Also, it could be a stress-break, so the kid doesn't have a breakdown during school from stress or fear, however, if that isn't the case, this suspension is stupid.
I take this as analogous to how police officers are placed on administrative leave following a shooting incident. Basically gives those involved a cool-down period so that everyone can figure out what happened objectively.
I take this as analogous to how police officers are placed on administrative leave following a shooting incident. Basically gives those involved a cool-down period so that everyone can figure out what happened objectively.
Police aren't suspended without pay though
I think of this less as being punished with a suspension and more as being rewarded with a couple of days off school.
and irreversible 0s on all assignments and tests missed during those days, no chance of perfect attendance, etc.
you cant be a hero straight away you have to let hte shooter kill a few people first
Its hard to feel bad for him when hes most likely gonna get all the pussy for pulling off that badassery.
Ain't punishment, its vacation. Dude my parents would have taken me to disneyland immediately following this. Dead serious, parents told me had something like this have happened, they would have said "Well we're taking him to disneyland, don't expect us to punish him!" [editline]3rd March 2013[/editline]
and irreversible 0s on all assignments and tests missed during those days, no chance of perfect attendance, etc.
Dude I think the teachers might make an exception here, I mean he's a hero. Teachers aren't protocol droids most of the time. I mean, damn, my engineering teacher in highschool used the newest Star Trek movie as "inspiration" for our next project, we watched Star Trek and then did a project about space architecture, she was lax as fuck when it mattered.
He was only suspended for a few days. He can catch up.
Except he can't. You're not allowed to make up assignments you miss when suspended.
And what, suspensions aren't only as a punishment, they're doing it potentially for his safety
Doesn't matter.
i don't get why some of you guys are saying it's not a punishment and that it's only a few days; this shit is still going on his permanent record as 'involved in gun incident' and any tests and homework he gets he'll get an irredeemable 0 on it IS a punishment and he does not deserve it
it's not going on his permanent record like that , at least I doubt it they're not going to start blaming him and shit
Well to be quite honest, A large part of Facepunch sentationalizes conservatives, religion, etc to the point of sensationalism There are idiots here who act like their the toughest most logical people in the world, and then theythrn around and say that Christian crosses are a symbol of misogyny, or that sympathizers of the GOP are dumbasses, and basically just saying things like "commie socialist liberals" except on the opposite spectrum
most of us, at least the rational ones only hate GOP conservatives because they DO say wild shit, and because GOP DOES make normal conservative look like dicks, exactly like the people in those comments make them look like dicks, because they aren't normal conservative, they're ignorant radicals that are conservatives because they think slightly left conservatives are all liberals and therefore instantly full blown communists rather than a real actual damn reason. They give conservative's who actually know what they're talking about a shitty name. So just because someone else says wild shit doesn't make these people any less insane. These people are acting like he was suspended because of some gun hating liberal conspiracy. "The problem is he prevented an event that could have been used to further their gun confiscation agenda." "Liberals are mad because they could have used this situation to promote gun control even harder." just because you start slaughtering black people doesn't make you more sane because someone else does it to white people. They're both god damn insane. Neither of them are "Right" because of the others "Wrongs". [editline]3rd March 2013[/editline] so yeah, no, they don't make sense, and liberals that think all right wing = gop don't either. Saying shit like "Conservatives would just want her raped so they can further their rape fetishes" is what makes me want to use 'libtard' even though I am one.
So, they wanted someone to potentially get shot. And rather than bravely put himself into harms way to diffuse the situation like he did, they probably just wanted him to "get an adult" or "tell a teacher". Apparently the concept that sometimes the only solution is to take action yourself is quite unknown to some. However, a legitimate reason as to why the hero got suspended is to discourage other student from trying to do something like that themselves. Given how messed up most teenagers apparently are now a days, if he had gotten nothing but praise, other students would have possibly tried to do the same thing with the intention of also getting praise.
