Zero Tolerance = Zero Thought I got suspended for a week in middle school because another student slashed my wrist with a piece of glass. Same thing, involved in an incident with a weapon.
Kind of messed up. I've got to admit though, situation is not one sided. People who punished the fellow in question were not in position to question rules. Dura lex, sed lex. Now they have the opportunity and example to improve the rules, but before that, they had to follow the concept by letter. This might be dumb, but people signing the papers don't deserve the hate they get.
Guys, it's not completely crazy for the school to not want kids involved in something like this to come to school for a few days. This is all we actually heard from the district:
I'm starting to think they maybe suspended him because they didn't understand his role in the event. They want to know what is part was in the possible attack (Besides what the article says.) just to be safe.

Everybody involved in an altercation, regardless of role, is punished for it.
My theory is it's them trying to award him with a vacation for his work, but they can't really do that so they "PUNISH" him.
Somedays we'll hear these news "Rape victim defends herself against her aggressor: has to pay for the wounds she caused"
Overall this seems like a relatively normal thing for the school to do. He wasn't punished. He was put aside for things to calm down and for him to have some breathing space as well.
suspension is pretty much punishment. You can't really make up any homework/and or tests when you've been suspended.
Depends on the teacher in question.
has it not occured to any of you he's not being suspended he's getting a few days off for saving someone's life? Huh?
You have to hate Zero Tolerance policies, you get in even more trouble for trying to defend yourself than the guy trying to beat you up.
This is more true than it should be...I was once suspended for 7 days for standing up to a kid who was harassing me trying to fight me. I made him leave me alone because the teachers refused to do anything about it. So because I was forced to take matters in my own hands I was suspended. He was too, but only for 3 or 4 days. Logic.
