A friend of mine got a letter from his ISP a while ago, telling him that he'd downloaded something like 40GB in less than a month. They basically asked him nicely to give up downloading so much - I don't think they knew or were bothered that he'd been pirating.
They don't know - they don't track [i]what[/i] you're doing - that's an invasion of privacy, and thus illegal.
But what if I download all my games from steam and d2d?

And even if it did not it doesn't mean they can't do it and get away with it (example = NSA warrentless wiretapping with the cooperation of ISP's including AT&T and Verizon)
