I think he should be punished I just don't think 9 weeks in jail is going to do any good. I would rather he be forced in to rehab for his drinking problem and be given a hefty fine rather then waist taxpayer dollars keeping him locked up over a rodent.

this rodent cost the tax payers a lot of money.
The world is just broken
Once I can legally do it, I will Never Smoke or Drink.
I think its more the ethics and necessity of the kill that's in question, The snake needs to eat, as do we. Microwaves, not so much..

Nine weeks is a little severe in my opinion.
No, it's not.
Being microwaved to death is a fucking terrible way to die.
It's.A.Fucking.Rodent.
He's.A.Sentient.Being.
This is quite possibly one of the stupidest things I've ever read. Seriously. "Hamsters aren't sentient :downs:". That's one for the books.
Your brain must be legally retarded, because it has no cells. /bad joke
Just because a hamster microwaving breaks your bubble of escapism doesn't mean that the world is coming to an end. People are more important. What he did wasn't right, but you can't say animal cruelty is the worst thing someone can do and then turn your cheek to murder.
My thirty seconds of research has found that in 2005 there were 2070 cases of animal abuse in the US. There were 16740 cases of homicide in the US, the same year.
EDIT: People seem to hate people more often than they do animals. Maybe there's something to be said about that perspective: When a person ruins your life, they are evil. When an animal does, they don't know any better. I don't know, but I'd rather a million animals die than a million humans.
As far as terrible ways hamsters and gerbils die, this really isn't too bad. Beats suffocating in a gay man's ass anyway.
how long did it take for the hamster to die. id like to think its brain being microwaved killed it quick enough.
[editline]08:01PM[/editline]
also the snake argument is entirely valid. some snakes will inject venom that paralyzes the victim and, dont quote me on this, but its the same thing as having it be strangled to death as it cant breath. 9 weeks in jail over a hamster is fucking retarded.
Partially right. Some venom will paralyze, which are the neurotoxic venom. However, other snakes will employ hemotoxic venom which damages the organs. I saw a video where a guy added a particular snake venom to a dish of blood. Blood turned into jelly in a few seconds flat. Back to the original statement. Most venomous snakes will use a combination of the two venom types.
Nonvenmous snakes are considered constrictors. They strike and coil around their prey and kill it very quickly. The strike alone can cause bleeding from the nose/ears. Upon constricting, the prey will be dead in under a minute.
"use animals as fish bait."
Um, what animal do you use as fish bait? I use worms.
I think what he did is pretty cool.
A life is a life reguardless of what creature it may be why do humans think they have the fucking right to live more than any other animal?

the only life worth living is mine.
A life is a life reguardless of what creature it may be why do humans think they have the fucking right to live more than any other animal?
Because if we didn't we wouldn't have made it very far as a species.
Agreed, at worst he should get a few months probation and a fine but throwing him in prison over a hamster seems stupid.
How would you like it if I threw you in the microwave for a few minutes?
Not agonizing and cruel at all?
How would you like it if I threw you in the microwave for a few minutes?

Considering the size of the thing I doubt it lived very long once the microwave was turned on.
What this guy did was horrible but locking him away in prison seems pointless. It would be better to just send him to rehab for his alcoholism and give him a large fine.

That's just how society works, you do bad things, you get removed from the population. And besides that, rehab costs money, and no body wants to spend that unless they really need too.

Locking him in prison costs money, I would rather money be spent on an actual solution then be spent on keeping him in jail and accomplishing nothing good.
People and snakes need to eat. People however do not need to microwave hamsters for no purpose what so ever.
Although it may just be hamster, we need to nip animal cruelty in the bud before it becomes a regular thing.
Maybe he wanted to eat it?
"use animals as fish bait."

It depends on what fish you're hunting. You're not gonna catch a Shark with worms.
Locking him in prison costs money, I would rather money be spent on an actual solution then be spent on keeping him in jail and accomplishing nothing good.
You seem to have a very small under standing of what a prison is what it does.
And I can't be bothered going into the details.
No one would give a shit about you either after you're dead, so let's stick you in a radiation bath now. :downs:
I know. People will forget about any accomplishment I have made several generations from now, if that. So why care about a fucking hamster?
Rodents are sentient beings, you dense troll.
First, I'm not trying to troll, its just that my position pisses people off because I don't care about animals as much as people.
Second, I'm not Dense, you are. Sentience is the ability to perceive self, have conscious thought, higher level intelligence, etc... The litmus test for sentience would probably be the ability to be aware of self. Rodents do not meet any of these qualities. Sure they feel pain, but pain is a mechanism. Pain tells the body that something is wrong. Pain does not make an animal a sentient being. Likewise pleasure tells the body that something is good. Pleasure good, pain bad. To restate my point, the ability to feel pain and pleasure does not denote ANY form of higher level intelligence that humans have.
If what I said pisses you off, then too bad. I still think humans(in general) are better than animals and no amount of "what if you were stuck in a microwave" would change what I think.
Now, if someone threw a person in a microwave, then I could sympathize with that individual. I just will never be able to sympathize with a non-sentient entity. Sorry.

So...hamsters are self aware?
Well, if you set the bar for sentience to be the ability to feel pleasure and pain, then Almost everything is sentient. However, I prefer the definition of sentience to be self awareness.
So, let me just restate.
It's.A.Fucking.Rodent.With.No.Self.Perception.Because.It.Lacks.Higher.Intelligence.
He's.A.Self.Aware.Being.With.A.Remarkable.Neural.Network.Despite.Being.An.Asshole.
I still doubt that would please you, but I tried at least.
And as a side note, please don't flame me for being stupid unless you can use proper grammar. Thank you.
A life is a life reguardless of what creature it may be why do humans think they have the fucking right to live more than any other animal?
One word: Art.
It's really hard to tell what is sentience and not.
It's really hard to tell what is sentience and not.
Then lets just change "sentience" to "Self Awareness". I meant sentience to mean self awareness, but I guess the definition can be skewed either way to fit either side's argument.
So instead I'll just use "Self Awareness" instead of "Sentience" because that is more easily understood and cant be skewed.
Hamster in Microwave - Nine weeks in jail.
Feed Mouse to Snake - No one gives a shit.
We slaughter cows for meat, shoot deer for sport, and use animals as fish bait. So why would someone be jailed for throwing a hamster in a microwave? I mean, don't get me wrong. Hamsters are cuddly and cute, but they are just hamsters. A man should not have to suffer nine weeks in prison for being a bit of an asshole.
Microwaving an animal is torture.
Killing something then eating it is not, unless the killing is done in a inhumane way.

Funny, because millions of animals and humans die everyday, so it wouldn't really make a difference if more of one or the other died.
