Microwaving an animal is torture.
Killing something then eating it is not, unless the killing is done in a inhumane way.
Either way, an animal that goes to the slaughterhouse is ending up in a burger. I don't think it matters if they shot it, strangled it, put it to sleep, etc... The outcome is the same.
And even if torturing a hamster is considered 'torture', it means jack all because it's still an instinctual animal that has no self awareness. It means nothing. A hamster doesn't know it's dieing. I feels pain, but it has no perception of what pain 'means' and what death 'means'.
Funny, because millions of animals and humans die everyday, so it wouldn't really make a difference if more of one or the other died.
It's closer to around 150k human deaths per day, but whatever...
For some reason I laughed my ass off.
Too bad it didn't explode.
Should have eaten it.
I know. People will forget about any accomplishment I have made several generations from now, if that. So why care about a fucking hamster?
First, I'm not trying to troll, its just that my position pisses people off because I don't care about animals as much as people.
Second, I'm not Dense, you are. Sentience is the ability to perceive self, have conscious thought, higher level intelligence, etc... The litmus test for sentience would probably be the ability to be aware of self. Rodents do not meet any of these qualities. Sure they feel pain, but pain is a mechanism. Pain tells the body that something is wrong. Pain does not make an animal a sentient being. Likewise pleasure tells the body that something is good. Pleasure good, pain bad. To restate my point, the ability to feel pain and pleasure does not denote ANY form of higher level intelligence that humans have.
If what I said pisses you off, then too bad. I still think humans(in general) are better than animals and no amount of "what if you were stuck in a microwave" would change what I think.
Now, if someone threw a person in a microwave, then I could sympathize with that individual. I just will never be able to sympathize with a non-sentient entity. Sorry.
So...hamsters are self aware?
Well, if you set the bar for sentience to be the ability to feel pleasure and pain, then Almost everything is sentient. However, I prefer the definition of sentience to be self awareness.
So, let me just restate.
It's.A.Fucking.Rodent.With.No.Self.Perception.Because.It.Lacks.Higher.Intelligence.
He's.A.Self.Aware.Being.With.A.Remarkable.Neural.Network.Despite.Being.An.Asshole.
I still doubt that would please you, but I tried at least.
And as a side note, please don't flame me for being stupid unless you can use proper grammar. Thank you.

Who are you to say what animals are and aren't self aware, I didn't realize you were God.

What if it was a Nazi Hamster? That bit Jew Hamsters?

Not sure if it's some kind of troll that everyone whines when some animal dies in some weird way but some body dies, for example, while getting a nice view from the top of a corn silo, and everyone says it's his/her own fault.
It's just a hamster, much worse things have happened to people which people on the internet collectively find hilarious.
And at the same time eat meat etc. etc.
As I said, if it's a troll well done you got me.

Theres ab if fucking difference between microwaving a defenseless creature and eating to survive.
Lets through you in a big oven, see how you like it.
There isn't really, from the point of view of the animal.
Lets feed you to a lion, see how you like it.

Eating meat is not the same as deriving pleasure from the torture and horrendous death of a small, defenseless animal.

Nobody goes out and eats the meat off the animal while it's still alive.
Nobody goes out and eats the meat off the animal while it's still alive.
That isn't the point. People cry because they feel sorry for the animal, but feel it's justified to kill an animal to eat it. It's not really relevant to this case, but if the animal dies for food or for any other reason; it's still dead.
As a sentient human being, would you feel any better knowing you were going to die for some food or for no reason at all. Consider being murdered by a cannibal and by some random guy. Either way you'd not be happy knowing what was about to happen.
Due to this it makes no sense to come out all in arms claiming this is a much greater injustice, due to the fact it was a pure act of brutality as opposed to for food. From the animals point of view it's still dead.
Though it really is like preaching atheism to evangelists, so I won't bother any more.

I wouldnt die to be eaten because the Human Race is the number 1 race. The issue here isnt the animal dying its the fact that is was tortured and brutally killed for no reason at all. In case you dont know you dense motherfucker, we eat cows, chickens and uhm... frogs to stay alive, like we have always done since the beginning of time when animals were created.
Humans>Animals
They are our food, but you dont brutally torture a cow and then eat it.
EDIT: Except for fatties. They eat food for no good reason.
As I said, preaching atheism to evangelists. You refuse to even look at another view point, whipping out the old argument, "we're just better than animals", which doesn't even make sense as a counter argument.
Youre refusing to look at my point. If you think Animals are a race that are more advanced and more sentient than humans, then you are the densest motherfucker ever. There is nothing to discuss here, he put a small hamster in a microwave to torture it for no reason, being cooked from the inside out. Thats alot fucking different from being EATEN. Im not saying killing animals is wrong, its the torture that im talking about.
Where did I say animals were more sentient than humans?
"we're just better than animals", which doesn't even make sense as a counter argument.
That means you think we are not better and more sophisticated than animals.
We were/are the Number 1 Race on this planet. We eat animals for food, just like a Snake eats a mouse or a cheetah a buffalo. You dont see a lion rip off a deers leg, let it sit there and suffer. No, it eats the damn thing.
I'm saying your point isn't relevant to my point.
I was saying ethically, empathetically, why would something (cow/sheep/pig) prefer to die as a food source compared to just dying. To which you respond, because humans are better. Thinking empathetically would you be cool with dying to a superior species for food?
I did not say humans are better, where the fuck did you get that from?
If there WAS a superior species, which there isn't, I wouldnt have a choice because there would be a reason they were superior
Where was that comic of a boy who microwaved a hamster in an oven and then went to hell in the afterlife? It quite related to this
Who are you to say what animals are and aren't self aware, I didn't realize you were God.
It doesn't take a god to realize what is required for self awareness(Although it does take an 8th grade education). Self awareness requires a very high level of intelligence. Rodents, such as hamsters, lack this because their brain has not evolved to a point where it is so. I will give rodents credit however, rats specifically, for being rather intelligent animals. However, they are still not aware as humans are aware because their brain is lacking.
Now, when a rodent buries its dead, creates art, uses tools, and ponders the complexities of the universe, call me. It will be at that point which I will change my mind.
I did not say humans are better, where the fuck did you get that from?
But humans are better. Once again: Art.
Erm.... Higher level cognitive abilities, such as self awareness, the ability to empathize, sympathize, make art, use tools, the ability to discuss philosophy, manipulate our environment, create medicine, ETC ETC ETC...
Humans.Are.Superior.
:downs: hurf durf I hate hamsters and im glad this one got tortured to death in the most agonizing way possible

Fixed.

First of all, I never said I was glad this man put a hamster in a microwave. That is not the side I'm arguing. Please, when you try and argue, make sure you stay on topic lest you look foolish.
Secondly, this is probably not the most agonizing way to die. I'm thinking, having all limbs slowly eaten off by animals slowly, or set fire to, or a combination of both. Watch the movie "Law abiding Citizen" for an awesome scene on torture.
Finally, I'm just on the side of people. I don't think a man should be jailed for stuffing a hamster in a microwave. I already listed the prerequisites needed for me to put animals on the same levels as humans.

Ok, I see your point, but I beleive that no creature should be tortured to death, and from what i'm seeing from your posts, you believe that it doesn't matter because its not human.

Okay, let's put it another way. I would personally smash every hamster, puppy, and kitten in the world, with a hammer, if it meant I could cure cancer.

Hopefully anyone would, hamsters, puppies, and cats have no ecological or societal benefit
That is just cruel and terrible.
