Chinese goods are actually better than you think. Hence why everybody is importing from China these days.
Unfortunately, stupid "buy American/British/etc" policies do nothing but retard economic development.
Norinco, a Chinese manufacturer that imports/imported many firearms into the US, has very very hit or miss quality. One of their AR-15 clones you'll pick up and it will fire 15,000 rounds without failure, and another will fire 15 rounds before failing. When buying firearms, you get exactly what you pay for, thats why people pay the extra dosh and buy from manufacturers that don't have QC issues.
Wait, Colt Competition is moving states, Colt is not.

Then people will get what they pay for.
Open the American markets to Chinese competition, then we'll see if the Chinese or American producers win out.
Then get rid of them. Import them.
I agree, hence why I'm glad in Canada I have the option to buy an American 1911 pistol for $1000, a European one for $1300, a Brazilian one for $600, or a Chinese one for $350, and the Chinese one will perform as good as the American one.

Even if you somehow get the import restrictions off Russian and Chinese firearms, you still have to worry about 922r compliance. Most of the guns making it in won't even be entirely foreign anyways.

The Chinese haven't been able to get guns into the US for about a decade, the ones they get into Canada are largely very reliable. I hear nothing buy good things about their 1911s, AR-15s, and M-14s, and a lot of good about their clones of Sig and CZ. The only thing they seem to suck at is replicating the Remington 870 for cheaper, I've heard stories of the Norinco 780 "Homeland Security" literally exploding when fired.

I think he wants 922r repealed too, as do I, and neither of us live in the US.
Because subsidizing industries makes it difficult for foreign countries to compete.

The Chinese are good as mass producing consumerist products. Stuff that ends up in the toy or clothing section at Walmart. That's not a bad thing. The Chinese fill the role very well and our American society values it.
But for something like a gun, I want it to be made by a nation known for quality craftsmanship.

Right, and you can still buy from American producers. I don't see the problem.

I've always heard the early norinco imports always had reliability issues and some rifles were far better than others. It's since probably been smoothed over

I want it gone too but it ain't goin away any time soon.

The early ones, like pre-2006 early, did, but now they've fixed just about all the issues with their rifles and handguns. Even the finish is a lot better than before, and that was always the biggest complaint about them here.
Why should the state support your industry?
they don't have to, but it certainly shouldn't come as a surprise when said industry leaves
not really lol
it might be a big deal for people who think the history of a firearms manufacturer matters but in reality a gun company moving to texas doesn't really change anything
I'm usually one who is unsure on my stance on the gun debate, often leaning towards more certain non ban regulations, but this is just butthurt
It's hard to blame a company for leaving a state which bans the things that they make, but I'm reasonably sure a variety of industries from time to time get fucked in regards to state or federal legislation and don't make a public spectacle of uprooting themselves.

Jack Daniels brews its whiskey in a dry county, I don't see much of a difference.
People thinking this is some sort of noble protest are badly mistaken this is all about the money.

It's a protest clearly stated because they wouldn't be able to get money in CT.
Awesome. More great companies to add to our list. We also have Hennessey Performance, Delorean Motor Company, BAE Systems, Exxon. Now we can add a high profile gun manufacturing company to our list.
Edit:
Exxon is building a new campus in Houston as well as what they already have. Massive place.
Wait, Colt Competition is moving states, Colt is not.
Colt Competition is the firearm manufacturing element of the business, if I recall correctly. They are the ones that produce parts for the military variant M16, as well as the 'high-cap' magazines for the AR-15 in its various styles, and I believe several other competition/LEO-aimed firearms and high-quality firearms. This is, in a sense, moving the entire company from the state.
(Again, this is going from recollection, so some of those details may be inaccurate, but that is the general gist of what's happening with Colt Firearms.)
Anyone know specifics about the gun laws Connecticut passed? If it made certain colt products illegal to manufacture or move (or even added costs to either) then I don't blame colt one bit. If any new law would effect them and the law wasn't wrote with excemptions for colt, then Connecticut got what they wanted as far as I'm concerned.

I don't remember 100%, but I'm reasonably certain it named a few Colt products by name. I think it also had a restriction on production, not just the sale, which is what hurt them the most.

magazine capacity restrictions, registering already-owned magazines over 10 rounds, if you have a 30 round mag, you can't load it with more than 10 rounds outside of your home or at the range, and adding 100 firearms to their ban list. I can't find an actual list of the firearms but it's pretty easy to assume the AR-15 is on the ban list
