Projecting on a surface is horrible. The projection quality is just awful. And it's always half transparent which means if you have no white surface nearby you're fucked.
And what about privacy? You can cover up your phone screen, but not a projection. Until it's holo and not a projection I don't see much success in this.
I would rather have a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if they want to make something futuristic make holographic keyboards and monitors instead.

The properties of the surface you're constantly dragging your fingers across will massively impact the experience.
pretty sure the reason we still have keyboards and mice after the introduction of the touchscreen is because they are superior.

It would really only be impractical for big things like playing games or running a computer. I can see it being nice for small things though, like using a ten-digit keypad to dial you phone while it's in your pocket or something (assuming it ever gets down to the size/form of a wristband). But for things that involve a lot of different input, I can't see this as being anything but clunky to use.
