Amazon apparently blocking people from buying certain games if they are not a Prime member
I'm doing the free trial for prime and what 2 day free shipping? Everything I ordered last time took 5 days to ship and one of the items won't be here til May 9th. So yeah 2 day shipping my ass.
I found that if its USPS they're pretty good, at least around here, to ship within a few days
some days shit takes longer but you can't get it perfect every time. I've really never had anything go above 3 days I don't think.
free shipping that doesn't take a week up a fucking month is great. I'm not paying 7$ shipping on a 15$ item.
If you're buying Prime for that alone, save yourself some money. $30, two years, same exact benefits for games. If you actually use Prime for Prime Video or 2-day shipping, then by all means, it's a good deal, but it's hard to beat ~3 games equaling two years of gamer's club.
as a user of gamer's club, I cannot stress how fantastic it is, with the 20% off games applying at any time, not only up to two weeks after release like amazon,
AND applying on top of best buy's sales, whereas amazon's only applies 20% off (if the sale is less than 20% off) or the sale price (if it's more than 20% off.)
and double rewards points on games and gaming items (buy 3 games and you've not only earned back the $30 cost of gamer's club, buy also earned a $5 reward certificate!)
it's turned my view of best buy from a store I never really bothered with to into one I absolutely love.
Amazon really has been going to shit.
The new 'add-on items' thing has made it so that I can't purchase a lot of things I was interested in.
IE. Phone case for $6, screen protector $3, charging cable ~$5. All add on items that require a $25 purchase to unlock. Even added all together, it's not enough to buy them - you have to either buy random crap to unlock them, or go to eBay and save money.

Lately, it's been around a $45+ minimum for me. Been a while since I ordered, but I remember it being way up there.

Yeah, I've never really had anything take longer than 3 days on Prime items. Its also important to note that once you get the shipped status, its entirely out of Amazons control, and your at the mercy of carrier.
Fortunately, USPS, FedEx and UPS are all competent here so I don't worry about it.
What the hell are you all talking about? 45$ min? "Add on"? Never came across these things in all my years of using prime.
People aren't using prime enough! Instead of altering prime to be more consumer friendly let's fuck over our non-prime users and hurt our business even more!
I've never had a $49 minimum for free 2 day shipping.....
The only minimum I know of is $35 for same day shipping, might also apply to one day shipping (where available)
I've never had a $49 minimum for free 2 day shipping.....
I was talking about for those who don't have Prime.
Orders including $25 or more of eligible books qualify for FREE Shipping. All orders of $49 or more of eligible items across any product category also qualify for FREE Shipping. With free shipping, your order will be delivered 5-8 business days after all of your items are available to ship, including pre-order items.
If you don't have Prime, you need to spend a minimum of $49 before you get free shipping of any kind (unless it's books).

I mean, that's still good though.
And that's like a pretty common price-gate for free shipping. The place I order my comics from online does the same thing.
Time to shop at G2A and other better places.
US Amazon sounds like a pretty raw deal. UK Amazon does free delivery on orders above £20 and Prime does next day delivery. I understand why, the US is a big place, but you'd think they'd at least try not to screw you like this when you're already getting second rate service.
I feel like Amazon 'peaked' a few years ago at one point when Amazon Student Prime was really cheap and there was no minimum for the standard free shipping. I had Student Prime for a while and when it ran out, I simply went back to regular shipping since it was fine. Everyone was happy and Amazon was the go-to site for like, everything (at least in the US).
But then they started raising the Prime price and adding a minimum total to the free shipping. I actually didn't know that the current minimum is $49, which is ridiculous in my opinion. I started taking their free shipping for granted since that's how I bought everything, but now I rarely buy anything that even comes close to $49. Might as well just go to the damn store yourself if that's the case.
I just recently bought a set of cheap tire irons for like $17 and got free shipping over here in Hawaii.
Oh no! Now I have to buy it from:
PSN/XBL/Steam depending on platform
Gamestop
Wal-Mart
Target
Toys-R-Us
Ebay
Mercari
pretty much fucking anywhere else that sells entertainment-related items
Way to fucking go, Amazon.

All of those places ship, as well (the non-digital store ones)

Free shipping is for every prime item. It's probably the student accounts that have the minimum charge limit.

I might have phrased that poorly. Standard users get something like free 2-5 day delivery on orders over £20, Prime users get free next day delivery on anything that is prime eligible which covers most things.
Amazon is going down the toilet, apparently their CEO has forgot that the internet is a big place and there's plenty of people willing to sell shit for cheap.
no they aren't you fucking kneejerker

My point is that it didn't used to be that way. There used to be no price gate at all, and then they added one at $25. And more recently, it was upped to $49. Annoying if you were used to having no gate at all (which is what I used to use all the time). Nowadays I have Prime, but at the student price. I love it, though I don't know if I'll do it for the full $99 a year (which was also increased from its original $79 a couple years ago) once my student rate runs out.
My point is that all this stuff used to be quite a bit cheaper, and thus it was overall a better service. And now we're learning about Amazon pushing Prime in annoying ways, like gating entire items behind the Prime subscription. They're slowly losing that 'best option, hands down' spot they used to have for any purchase decision for people who don't have Prime, and Prime is now a rather expensive service too.

Yeah, the foreign Amazons have pretty spectacular shipping deals. I use the Japanese Amazon by proxy through my friend who lives over there, and without their Prime subscription, you get one-day shipping on just about everything for about $3. You can even specify the time of day for delivery. Maybe it's just a symptom of Japan being a lot smaller of a country with a much better postal infrastructure, but damn, I wish I had that kind of deal over here.

Pretty sure it's just the Japanese postal service being amazing. They can ship stuff to Australia for less than Australia Post would charge to send it over a single state. Not as cheap as China but it's still pretty great.
Which would then get delivered by Australia Post anyway obviously.
It's not just games. I went to go buy some dumbbells from amazon and it gave me the same thing
