That explains why I can listen to music, play video games, and watch good movies like inception all at the same time.
I honestly learned more about WW2 playing the first Call of Duties, and the Medal of Honor series.
Hurr, naturally. They put you in different situations and encourage you to think creatively or whatever... that sorta shit.
My years of playing Quake pay off!
I'll be honest the games I played when I was little (like PS games) taught me quite a few words for vocabulary.
I'm Finnish, and i learned to speak english fluently from videogames.
I find playing vertical shooter danmakus such as Touhou have greatly helped my reflexes and concentration skills.
and helped your skills in finding potential male mating partners

Empire Earth mother fuckers
How is this easier for people to believe but the minute there's a study of games making people cognitively retarded all gamers do is demand more evidence.
Take the good with the bad. The overall results seem to be arbitrary either way, no one gains an edge.
Eat that, Moral Guardians.
I sthpent all my pointsth on charisthma!
I play a lot of videogames, but my multitasking ability is still complete shit. I need to fully focus on something to do it, if for example someone talks to me while I type and I try to listen to that person as well as typing I won't be able to listen nor type.
Is this common, or do I have some kind of mental disorder? :saddowns:
I like how everyone on facepunch skates over any negative studies about video games and gives them dumbs, but whenever anyone posts something remotely positive about video games, everyone spams agrees.
I still agree with the OP though.
I'm probably gonna get boxes for this.
Most negative studies don't take into account uncontrollable independent variables like a child's friends and family life. Thats why they get mixed results.
Wasn't their a study a few months back which stated, "Gamers have the same mental capability of Army Rangers" ? Either way this is pretty well known. I also believe their was a study which stated people who play online games have a higher maturity level then does in their age group.

No it was that they have the reflexes of a fighter pilot but have the health of a smoker.
I've heard multitasking actually isn't good for your brain, so yeah.
Isn't this kind of obvious?

Why would you have music and a movie on whilst playing a game that's just silly.
Strategy games taught me more history than what I ever learned in school.
I'm going to disagree with that, but video games gave me a basic summary of some history topics (Call of Duty 2 campaign) but since I'm a history nut I would do some research into that topic(and I find this enjoyable/fun) but yes it did teach me alot of history until year 7-9 when we started learning about history.
Reflexes of a fighter pilot, stamina of a chain smoker :buddy:.

Explanation for being able to read a book, watch a movie, listen to music, chat, browse forums and eat foor at the same time.
Master race etc. :|
i could see how playing a lot of FPS could give you a edge on your fight or flight skills and how you can take in your surroundings quicker as that is a necessity to playing a game.
also I notice i have pretty quick reflexes after i started to play some games.

If I were a girl, then yeah, it would.
now i know why many of my friends have very bad multitasking and slow reaction time :)
I can tap my fingers really fast in a sequenced pattern because of me playing Guitar Hero. Also my english has gotten better because of playing in video games cause I didnt want to get flamed. And I can type faster.
Hasn't worked for me. :saddowns:
My six year old brother is kicking shit up on Black Ops while shouting KISS MY ASS.
I sure do see what they mean. :smug:
