now now gender roles are not born completely from evolution and you know that. in today's world the social construct plays a far bigger role than our instincts i would certainly say.
i would say they are more symptomatic of our evolution
some things are pretty universal
women want a masculine, assertive, confident man
stuff like fashion and gestures are just different ways to show how masculine or feminine you are
[editline]25th May 2011[/editline]
you are right though there is a ton of stuff that is cultural, im talking about core character traits which tend to be more universal
your paragraphing is really annoying stop it
your paragraphing is really annoying stop it
why is it really annoying
its just double spacing
it makes it easier for me to correct
it makes it retarded

yeah but masculinity and femininity aren't necessarily consist across our ancestors. there's no real evidence to suggest that and if occurs from evolution then it needs to be part of a gene that gets propagated. considering non-masculine and unassertive men exist it means the gene remained in our gene pool which meant it wasn't really necessary for survival.
and i'm just talking about primates, if you go beyond primates the lines between genders become even more radical. the feline species usually have the female's as the assertive confident protectors due to their maternal instincts.
it makes it retarded
your avatar is retarded but im not going off on that
i mean really what is it
a fish a bird a state i dunno but its weird

that is a weird thing, could dominance and masculinity be both a learned trait with some genetic code that could pass through evolutionary? im not a scientist so i got no clue

thats true, gender roles are incredibly weird, i think they are interesting as hell though especially as far as humans go
Plus, acting like an asshole gives the illusion of being an alpha male.
I'm assuming it's some deeply-rooted gene that makes women want to take care of the annoying, crying douchebags while systematically friendzoning all the happy, friendly guys.
Bad guys finish last... in bed :smug:.

uhhh maybe it's Niger, my fucking username?
I don't know about this. In school whenever I struggle with a little depression or act like a dick, I more often alienate people, of both sexes.

You're doing it all wrong! You gotta be ALPHA, man!

i don't know but i'm sure we could find out
through the ~FUN OF RESEARCH~
i'm sure some people have done some studies on it, the general consensus seems to be it's a mixture of both
I think being able to socialize is more important than being broody or happy.

Isn't that a good thing
I like seeing my boyfriend when he's concentrating very hard. It's really attractive. He was doing it last night when he was trying to do 64*64 in his head. And I was like
My girlfriend says it is hot when I get mad (which is rare). I don't understand that.
uhhh maybe it's Niger, my fucking username?
If we're talking about a really basic, physical thing, I can see how this would be fairly accurate. I mean shit, look at any expression on a male model.
But when it comes to romantic attraction and personality? I stay the fuck away from any girl who goes after whiny, depressing guys.
I still hate how women don't respect a persons right to be whoever they want to be.
lol what
Re-read what you just typed. Think about our society. And then think about editing that sentence.
Women like bad boys. Just wait till the get knocked up and there "bad boy" leaves them. Or hits them, which ever comes first.

lol
men are socialized to act hyper masculine, which of course isn't very healthy, you can see can see this with the increase of mental disorders(depression and so on) in men who act very manly. so it isn't a case of "moody" guys appearing more attractive, but of attractive hyper masculine 'alpha males' being more moody.

nah actually manly "alpha" guys dont have the same tendency for depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem that wimpy, effeminite guys have
[editline]25th May 2011[/editline]
and men are socialized to act way less masculine in todays society anyways
its all about the "sensitive" guy, the girly guy, the nice guy
nah actually manly "alpha" guys dont have the same tendency for depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem that wimpy, effeminite guys have
nope, that's just your perception that having a mental disorder is effeminate(weakness being tagged onto femininity), you picture effeminate guys as weaker and therefore you image that they have mental disorders
when in fact the people who have managed to meld femininity and masculinity into an ambiguous thing that has the best of both, those people are proven to be happier than those that can't reject the pursuit of masculinity
and men are socialized to act way less masculine in todays society anyways
men can now acceptably cook, wash dishes, and change diapers where as they couldn't in the 1950's- we've clearly become WAY less masculine
its all about the "sensitive" guy, the girly guy, the nice guy
we'll we're talking about sexual attraction not the desire to be in a relationship
uhhh maybe it's Niger, my fucking username?
it all comes together
nope, that's just your perception that having a mental disorder is effeminate(weakness being tagged onto femininity), you picture effeminate guys as weaker and therefore you image that they have mental disorders
not really no, femininity isnt a weakness for one, so your perception of my perception is completely wrong
being wimpy and feminine often is a symptom of low confidence, depression and such
this is coming from a wimpy more feminine guy
when in fact the people who have managed to meld femininity and masculinity into an ambiguous thing that has the best of both, those people are proven to be happier than those that can't reject the pursuit of masculinity
um duh, femininity has a place in the male psyche, there needs to be a balance, but there is never too much masculinity because over masculinity is a sign of someone covering up for over femininity
men can now acceptably cook, wash dishes, and change diapers where as they couldn't in the 1950's- we've clearly become WAY less masculine
im not talking about that
im talking about losing the masculinity, control, and dominance over oneself that is looked down upon now
men who are in control of themselves and take care of their family, friends, and love interests are looked at as chauvinistic, controlling, macho, stereotypical people
we'll we're talking about sexual attraction not the desire to be in a relationship
im not talking about either, im talking about what is expected of a man in the culture, compared to what is beneficial and sexually attractive
This sounds like bullshit to me.
I'd rather be happy than have sex. I still have my hand anyway
That's weird. I thought it was the exact opposite?
I'm unhappy and I have sex, this article is true.
