$460 Christ I thought it'd be around $300.
Probably not worth upgrading from my 560 Ti that runs my games fine.

Oh I see it's for all cards from the 7900 series, someone tell me which one to get that won't cost me a fortune, all three of those games have been on my wish list for 2013.
I just bought a 7870 HD last month :(

You can still benefit, upgrade to 12.11 beta drivers for a performance increase.
As someone with very little experience with PC building, I've never really gotten why the graphics cards have to look so nice. Yeah, they look great, but I guess it must just be for advertising, since you're never going to see it again unless it has a problem or you're replacing it.
Some high-end gaming rigs have windows on the sides so you/people at lan parties can look at your parts.

Also because it's nice to have something more than a bare PCB+heatsink+fan, for both looks and, yeah, advertising. I mean look at how nice some of EVGA's latest Nvidia cards look

When I was building my rig I thought maybe I should add some ricer shit like LED's into it so it looks nice but then I realised its going to be under a desk and that I'd rather look at what it produces on my screen rather then the ascetics of the actual parts.

Yeah they look really nice, until it goes into your mobo face down and you can't see shit.
Now I'm looking into switching from Nvidia, but apparently the 7870 has some bugs that lead to black screens that mean you have to restart the PC. The Geforce 660 seems to have similar benchmarks and it's cheaper, am I missing anything?

Its just a part of the package, when you open it you get a nice big fat space heater that looks nice and tidy.
Incredibly false and bias viewpoint you have there.
nope, 100% accurate non-biased opinion actually. and this is coming from an unfortunate victim of AMD who's currently dealing with one of their shit graphics cards.
I've never ended up getting an amd card, every time I've wanted to upgrade nvidia cards happened to have the edge.
AMD releasing a good driver?! What's next? NVIDIA fixing their thermodynamics?

still don't have the money
I'll be waiting for the next line-up of cards before I upgrade from my 580. A couple of games can't tempt me.

All I see is a card that I can't overclock properly because reference cooling sucks, and is loud.
why is it that i always read the part on things that says i can get something for free and never the second part that says i have to buy something first
Did AMD get kicked out of the processor market? I remember something about it but I can't remember.

Their trinity line of APUs is decent.
Enthusiast grade desktop hardware is Intel all the way in every field. AMD is barely competing with the ivy bridge i3s, and quite literally has nothing to offer in the i5/i7 range of processors.

They still sell them as far as I know, I just picked up one of their bulldozer CPUs. They aren't as good as intel, but they are a hell of a lot cheaper.
I JUST ordered a 7950 from newegg 2 days ago, not even here yet, I wonder if I can still get this deal.
I switched over to AMD for one reason, every Nvidia card that I owned eventually burned out... my AMD cards seem to not overheat, just an observation though

Write a polite email to AMD customer support, always worth a shot.
Are you guys fucking kidding me? Did I misread it or you really preffer Radeon cards?
When I had Radeon 4000-something it's fan broke after it's first couple of months and card overheated even when playing half life 2.
Later I bought Radeon 5000-something and it's fan broke after second week. I was shocked by how shitty Radeon cards are. It's probably made in china or something.
I bought gtx 560 Ti when it came out and this babe runs everything fine, perfectly. It has even better surround technology, better 3D glasses and better support for them in games (supports almost all games) Also it has amazing PhysX effects and better drivers that support even old games.
The "Never Settle" driver increases performance so much, it's nice.
Also Far Cry 3 will use OpenCL, so that will mean nVidia will be forced to invest more in OpenCL and less on CUDA for gaming if AMD keeps getting devs to support OpenCL (which they will since next gen consoles will all have OpenCL support and AMD gpu's except for maybe PS4)

Done, I'll post back on how it goes, hopefully I picked the right section and everything will seem right, never have had an experience with AMD but we'll see how this sets my disposition towards them.

I'm looking on Newegg, and is there any difference between these two?

Did you clean your Nvidia card at least once a year, you know, take off the outside cover and pick at the dust?
You know if dust builds up inside it, the fans actually don't do as well of a job.

Also yes, they are the same. One has just been overclocked slightly, though you can do that yourself.

I tried to clean dust out of my Nvidia card and it fucking blew up in my face so I had to go to the hospital and get stitches and bandages for the burns all the fuck over my face. Buy AMD!
