I've heard the numerous horror stories I've heard about relationships. A friend of mine got tremendously depressed for months because he found out that his girlfriend cheated on him. His grades plummeted entirely and he isolated himself from others. Better safe than sorry.

There are a lot of people who seem up not understand how relationships work at the most basic level, sometimes you have to do things that you don't exactly consider fun, like shopping, just like they'll do something they might not find fun, like seeing a movie they don't want to see with you. It's not selfish to do something you want to do, it's selfish to say they should only be doing things you like , and nothing they like.

Or, y'know, you do the stuff together that you enjoy, and the stuff you don't enjoy you do with friends for example. That's usually a good way to do things in my experience.
Five hours is a bloody long time, man. Especially when the shopping spree apparently wasn't coming to an end any time soon and the bitch had the audacity to tell the guy that he'd ruined Christmas and effectively called him 'cheap'.
She sounds like a fucking spoiled little brat.

Yeah the articles guy is completely justified at being upset. I'm directing it at the people talking about general relationships and saying, "How dare my girlfriend take me shopping! What a user! What selfishness!"

Yeah. You gotta put some work into a relationship to make it happen. If that means tolerating your partner's idiosyncrasies, then do it. If you can't stand it, then talk it out with her and find a solution, or find a better relationship.
Because clearly he was totally in a sane state of mind.
sane or insane, there's plenty of other decisions out there besides jumping off a balcony.

And I'm pretty sure one of the effects of insanity is that you're not making the best decisions.
Rate me dumb all you want but relationships are bullshit. I was in one once, and the girl was paranoid as fuck and didn't want me to leave her. I promised her this.
Two weeks later she leaves me for some Mexican guy who is cheating on her behind her back. Bitches are crazy and I don't like dicks. Fuck relationships.

Sounds like you had a rough time.
Try again. Maybe you will have better luck.
No wonder you guys are single, you treat spending time with your girlfriend like it's some kind of job.
I'm sorry but clothes shopping is by and large one of the worst, most painful, excruciatingly boring activities ever when you have no interest in it.
I wouldn't bring my girlfriend to a carpentry tool store or a computer hardware store and make her stand around for 3 hours while I do my shopping; if she clearly has no interest in the place. It's common courtesy.
I faked passing out once in a store to get my girlfriend to stfu and stop shopping. This is sort of the same thing except way more extreme.
Still though. People dying is nothing to poke at. Condolences to his family. Poor bastard.

This guy killed himself OVER SHOPPING. Don't you think that's a little ridiculous? It's a choice he made, and a dumb one at that. It was a cowardly thing to do.

For all you know, the things his girlfriend said to him could've been the straw the broke the camels back, you know nothing about the dude, yet you think that he's a dumb and a coward because he committed suicide over something you think was trivial.
in the end, you have no idea what was going through this guys head at the time, so stop trying to justify calling him an idiot because he killed himself
Well if he wanted help, he would have gotten it. That's all I have to say.
Well if he wanted help, he would have gotten it. That's all I have to say.
Not everyone is able/can muster the will to seek help, seeing it as nothing but detrimental and/or humiliating.
A lot of people doesn't realize that they're better off getting help rather than solving their problems by themselves, which, in time, will lead in more mental clogging on that pipe of theirs. That's why shit like this happens, mental breakdowns as the depression and the suicidal thoughts gets the best of one.

AHahaha
holy shit what
i cant believe you just said that, you just told us you have no idea what depression does or how it works or anything
What if he had no one to go to? What if he felt no one cared about him? or he didnt want to impose on someone by asking for help?
People who are depressed dont just "get help and fix it", its not like the flu were you get a shot and youre magically fixed.

Nobody in this thread has brought up the girlfriend, either. I'm not saying it wasn't justified, but imagine seeing your romantic partner commit suicide right in front of you, because of you.
She probably didn't realize how horrible shopping was for him until he went insane and jumped 7 stories, and when his mental state completely snapped out of nowhere it's kind of understandable that she would accuse him of acting crazy. I'm pretty sure she regrets it now.

Facepunch doesn't empathize with girls, sorry.

I think you might have a problem if faking a black out in front of your girlfriend strikes you as a good idea.

I hope this post is a joke. Even if it is, it's terrible.

when did I ever say that?
when did I ever say that?
You're communicating what you feel towards the issue in a way that's different than directly saying it upfront.

I have depression myself, but I've never tried to hurt myself over some silly argument.

Clearly, you are the authority in all things depression-related. Jesus.

Citing yourself as an example is never smart. Not everyone is the same.

I'd even suggest that citing himself shows the problem right there.
LaCk_Of_EmPaThY
he died a hard motherfucker like shit
I hate shopping with people as much as the next guy, but jumping off the place like that is a bit excessive. So is shoe shopping for five hours.
