Rumor: Darth Vader may "Rise from the Ashes" in Star Wars Episode 7
It's not the worst thing ever retroactively done to Vader, though. The worst thing was definitely that time gave Palpatine a bastard child that was his heir, then had some three-eyed dude pretend to be that heir and call himself TRIOCULOUS while wearing Vader's gloves, because they're now magic destiny gloves or some shit.
Or maybe it was that one time he had a medieval goddamn castle, complete with a big black statue of himself, which later got raided by children.
Or that whole thing where they had Luke go emo and wear his dad's armor and pretend to be him because not only are they magic gloves of destiny, but the armor also totally is just a thing a normal human can wear and become superpowered via. Or Vader was communicating to him through it or some shit I don't even remember, it was just awful.
I wish I was making that shit up. "EU" is such a fitting name.
Looks like ignoring/retconning most of EU might not be a that bad decision after all, eh?
They can always just use the clone approach. If Palpatine can survive, so could Darth Vader. Would suck balls though.
There's probably going to be another Darth, maybe another one named Vader. They might reuse the costume, either way, the original character is dead.
I'm just imagining Anakin's ghost saying "Fuck this I'm bored", possessing the nearest sucker, and start fighting for the Empire again.
There's no mention of it being Anakin though
Imagine if some Sith apprentice came upon the remains of Vader on some distant planet, and ripped out Anakin from the armour, piece by piece, bone by bone, then dons the armour without even cleaning all the fucking entrails off it, blood dripping down his fucking sides
if only it were not a disney movie

Probably fake, but still.
If any one needs me, I be crying in the back with my EU books.
of which Darth Vader has a small moon's worth.
That's no moon!!
Well, if they ARE going to do this, they should have James Earl Jones as the VO if he still has that voice.
Personally, the only way I could imagine him returning is as a Force Ghost, though I dunno whether he'd return as the Dark Side bad guy he was for most of the original trilogy, or the reformed guy he became before he died near the end of Return of the Jedi.
I dunno if souls can "split" in the Star Wars universe, but I wonder; if Vader's "Force Ghost" split into two halves, the redeemed Anakin we saw at the end of RotJ and the darkness within Vader incarnate as the death-masked cyborg we all know and love/fear, would that be an interesting plot-point or a poor rendition of the tired old concept of good and evil?

Well, they could probably still do that; if you remember Return of the Jedi, Luke cremated his father, so all this "Dark Apprentice" would need to do is shake out the bones and ashes, no meddling with an actual corpse at all, and claim Vader's armour as his own. Still, I'm still in favour of Vader returning as a Force Ghost, but that isn't saying much; it's like saying that "after looking at these doodles drawn by a 12 year old schoolboy, this one looks the least like a crudely-drawn cock". But if we do end up lumped with a dark apprentice donning Vader's armour, I hope to god it isn't that Starkiller goit; as far as I'm concerned the TFU games aren't canon.
wouldnt he be good this time round then?
i really dont even give a shit about the story i wanna see him come back and start stabbing poeple
Why can't they just have Grand Admiral Thrawn? He's pretty kick ass, and probably the best damn story of all the Extended Universe.
wouldnt he be good this time round then?
He probably would be, since he redeemed himself at the end of RotJ.
Also, I never read anything on the Expanded Universe; who is Admiral Thrawn?

He's a blue skinned, red eyed guy who takes over the Empire after Palpatine dies. He's a far cry from any other SW villain because his motives are considerably less evil and he stresses the importance of logic.
This is an incredibly shitty description. Just check out his wookieepedia entry, it's fucking huge: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Mitth%27raw%27nuruodo
I mean, just saying. He kind of had his life support systems electrically fried, and he kind of died from exposure and general lack of life support.
And burned afterwards.

Thrawn was a pretty cool guy, mostly because as you said, he wasn't black and white evil like so many star wars villains.
I think he's a great villain. I must admit, though, he's about the only thing I really liked about the Thrawn trilogy. And Mara Jade, or rather the idea of Mara Jade.
If any of you guys were Real Nerds and read the books. you would know that the death of a Jedi could be overcome by the ghost basically possessing a body or a clone of themselves. Palpatine, Darth maul. they never actually die if you read the books...

Yea Kyle Katarn is a stupid character. I hate the Jedi Knight games and am glad to say they will no longer exist in the Star Wars universe when the EU is ridden of. Get rid of Timothy Zhan's work too along with Mara Jade, Thrawn, and get rid of Shadows of the Empire too because all EU is bad!!! At least when the EU is wiped we keep SWTOR (KoToR is gone), the Force Unleashed, that Children's television show that was canceled, and Angry Birds.
Actually a movie about Kyle Katarn might not be such a bad idea.
I know it's a rumor but...wow. How the fuck can you survive being blown in the DeathStar?

He didn't get killed by blowing up in the Death Star, he got zapped by the Emperor and then took his helmet off to see Luke with his own eyes before he died. Then his body got shipped down to Endor and got burnt on a funeral pyre.

Oh yeah, now I feel dumb, I completely forgot about that.
I feel dumber for posting in a 2012 thread because some fucktard bumped it.
Huh, thought this was a new thread and then I saw my post, got me good

Yeah but darth vader was a symbol behind a mask
its pretty much a common expectation that when you have a character who lives his life behind a mask the original character will die and someone else will take up the mask
after all darth vader is the dude in the mask, not anakin
No no no no no no more no and some more no and a little more no just fuck off no
I don't even want to see Yoda, Obi-Wan or Anakin in force form. Let alone raised from the ashes. What's the excuse going to be? Oh, Luke saved Vader, You only saw him burning the suit and mask, signifying the end to his corrupted dark side? Whatever.
Granted, Return of the Jedi came out 2 years before I was born, but I still grew up with those movies and the original trilogy has already been shit on with these re-masters and Han Shot First bullshit. Let it go, George

actually i'd be eager to see how well McGregor could pull off the Old Man Ben thing
Sounds good to me. I kind of wished Vader had survived the end of Episode 6 because of his redemption.
He should stay dead though. Bringing him back ruins the whole redemption thing.
What would be. Cool though is if he was brought back in PTSD flashbacks and hallucinations in Luke's head and the movie itself was about dealing with still dangerous imperial remnants as his sanity slowly begins to erode away into nothing until he is left a hollows shell of the man once known as Luke Skywalker, hero and savior of the rebellion.
