Interesting. The only thing that happened at my school was somebody took a shit on the floor. Primary School mind you.
That happened at my university on the first and second nights
Sharks and minnows anyone?
Pool version?
Never heard of a land version.
i played this before but we didnt call it bulldog. sucks that happened tho. its just a fun kids game. hpoefully people wont take this accident and try and ban this from schools or something
I remember playing this in primary school.
Some guy got a concussion at my school when we were playing once.
That guy was me.
Good times.
We had bulldog (before it was banned and thus renamed but still played) and evolved it into chain, where as long as the guys who were it were touching another guy who was it, they were able to tackle people in the homezone. Was introduced because of a few fast gits who were a pain to intercept.
We did that in PE once in high school, result? I broke my arm, but in Bulldog I never got injured, I was the one people hated me to be bulldog, because I was probably the hardest tackler in my entire school, despite not seeming like it. One time, the biggest guy in school, the one people always let past, not on my fucking watch, i tackled him so hard he cried.

We called this Sharks and Minnows over here too, did it on land or in the pool.
It was pretty good practice for tackling in rugby as I recall, then they made it non-contact only and we all stopped playing it. Damn teachers

I worked with a middle school hockey group last year that played Sharks and Minnows on the ice. A bunch of kids, in hockey armor, chasing each other around? It looked (and probably sounds) like a recipe for disaster but everyone enjoyed it.
bulldog was banned in my primary school so we just started calling it tag and none of the teachers cared it was great until Rowan got hit in the dick and cried to a teacher about it and got it banned
fucking Rowan
We used to call it infection at my primary school. I miss those days, except we played on a football oval and behind each goal was safe. We were pretty fucking tired by the end of it. And being the stupid fucks we were, it was a tackle, not tag game. Plus it was rural Australia and it was dry as fuck, so the oval was made out of dry dirt and rocks.
I hardly remember this type of game.. But it's pretty close to some usual tagging-game.
I played this game in elementary during recess. We tweaked it a little, you could be rough as fuck about it so people tend to dropkick a bitch and everyone laughed about it.
Then there was an even more rough game we called Roughby (that's right, also elementary school) when it's just rugby but you could kick and punch anyone you'd like and the girls also joined in on this. It was hilarious, we got bruises and shit. One guy also got his hand cut open but no one gave a fuck.
Some good ass times.
oh shit, it's octopus! i forgot all about this game
I remember playing that game in school, it was so much fun! Here's to hoping an unfortunate accident won't give way to hyperbole and stop kids from enjoying themselves.
when I was a kid my school banned it
fucking sucked
Wow thats pretty sad... She must have been hit really hard to do that kind of damage. I know what we should do! Ban every form of children's game and have them wear bubble wrap. Viola this wont happen again.
Pfft, screw that, just give them lots of bubble wrap and they'll just spend all of their free time popping it
She died from a liver injury from bulldog? Sounds like she already had a weak liver. Damn shame she died so soon :(

Sounds like Toa-fight is right up your alley.
I have two scars on my lower back from playing this and getting tackled onto concrete.
I didn't know it was still played, that's pretty awesome. British Bulldog and Stuck in the Mud, man I miss being a kid sometimes.
Feel awful for the girl, the game is rough, but it shouldn't ever result in death. Tragic loss.
I played this on roller skates once. There's nothing quite like flying across a hall at insane speeds with only thin plastic padding to protect you from smashing all your bones should you fall over, all the while trying to avoid someone (or multiple people) moving at the same speed. It's awesome. Anyway, it's such a pity this happened, it was such a freak accident. No parent should have to go through this.
We used to play this, we called it crossfire, but we didn't tackle anyone. It literally was just a harder version of tag. You could still tackle someone if you wanted but if you fell on the concrete you were fucked
Used to play that, but it was called Ballrush.
I got a concussion playing this in school
That explains a lot.
I still have a scar from a skin graft I got when I got tackled onto paving stones and it literally grated the skin off my elbow, never stopped me playing it though this was the best part about break time
We used to do this as a training exercise in Rugby. Great game but it can be dangerous.
I fucking loved bulldog, even though one guy would always be the last man standing. I recall once it literally took 7 guys piling onto him to take him down.
Fucking Darien.
That explains a lot.
U wot m8?
no seriously though, explains what?
Man, kids these days are pussies. I remember when during recesses, we'd all play hacky slash. Basically, we all stood in circle and took turns hacking at each other with rusty axes and meat cleavers. Man, those were the days.
Sigh. The big problem here is that Bulldog needs to be played in a wide open area, as the news article said there was a lot of stuff there.

They'll put the bubble wrap on their heads and suffocate to death. :eng101:
