Remember when this happened in China and we all decided it was a Chinese problem and proudly gave ourselves backpats about how it would never happen where we live? I love how people like to point fingers at detroit as the worst the state has to offer. It's an underlying problem in this part of the state. The whole downtown areas of most southeastern michigan is beginning to fall apart. In Flint just this week there were 5 homicides within two days of each other that couldn't have been more then 6 blocks each other. The situation is bad all over, hell even places like Pontiac are just bad, you just never hear about it in the news.

I'd rather say it's an underlying problem society as a whole has, it shows how very few people in cities care about each other anymore. In small villages with about 500 residents, they're likely to know each other, so if anyone were to pummel the fuck out of a resident, everyone would know. Social control is definitely needed anytime, anywhere, and from this article, I guess it's nowhere to be found anymore in larger cities.
