Bronies are not a race, sex, gender, sexuality, or religion. The only part of being a brony that is constitutionally protected is free speech. Other than that, you're on your own.
I see this phrase being thrown constantly. It's true that they don't face the persecution of other minorities, but the statements and actions directed at them aren't intended to be nice either.
No one is a masochist who adores treated poorly so it's expected of them to complain about it.
should have just told his boss to go fuck himself
In the thread with the cheating girl, people are saying she shouldn't have been fired and had her life ruined because of a private affair in her life made public. Meanwhile here, people are cheering some guy getting fired for liking a TV show.
Welcome to Facepunch.
Sucks but he's most likely right, he'll probably get a better job anyway.
You have to admit being a brony isn't normal and I don't see it as normal either, you could say otherwise but it is a fully adult man watching a little girls show which isn't normal since only a small amount of people do it. These types of things can be uncomfortable to some people like apparently this boss, and just like you can't control your tastes, he probably can't control that he thinks it is weird, and if I had a get out of jail free card to not deal with the problem all together (aka fire him) then I could say I might take it if I felt strongly as he did. He should have kept all of it to himself if he didn't want to risk making people uncomfortable because of it, and although this is a strong example and can easily be taken the wrong way, if a boss found out one of their workers was a pedophile obviously that would make them uncomfortable and would likely lead to firing, and some people feel as strongly about a full grown man watching a little kids show for girls similarly bad and uncomfortable.
Watching a show for little girls about ponies as a grown man should be kept private, since it isn't really normal and you shouldn't expect it to be accepted in anyway (sounds harsh, but that is probably peoples normal reaction to a brony). I can also tell you I don't care if you're a brony as long as it isn't an excessive expression, I have one of my friends is a brony but he doesn't flaunt it around. Hopefully this isn't as harsh as it might sound like, but it's true that if you do something weird like that keep it to yourself as much as possible since people don't like weird, making them uncomfortable as it did this boss.
There's nothing wrong with a grown man watching a children's show.
Grow up.
The average normal reaction to a well-adjusted man who happens to watch MLP is "Oh, cool I guess" and then they'd carry on talking about whatever.
This firing was completely uncalled for.
"Mr. Carter" sounds like the most generic boss name ever
It's like something I'd hear out of a really bad B movie about businessmen
probably should have executed him instead
Fucking wow.
Children are fucking stupid so you can pretty much guess what their shows are like. You can't make a kid's show about the Pythagorean Theorem simply because they aren't at that level yet. But if you wanna watch a pony cartoon or Jerry Springer be my guest. I really don't give a shit.
But society views bronies as unacceptable because most children's TV shows are stupid, restrictive, or teach basic crap that you should already know as an adult. And whatever you watch of course reflects what kind of person you are. Or maybe they might be hated because it's almost like something Gary Glitter might be into. Whatever. The point is: they are unaccepted by the majority and not a valuable asset to a business (unless said business is specifically aimed toward the brony niche but those will never make money if they stay this unpopular.) Remember: the appearance of your business is very important. It's what attracts and keeps your customers (a.k.a. your income.) Sure you can have someone that's a good worker, but if they come off as a flamboyant freak who obviously does something that's weird, it will hurt your business. Not saying that all bronies are bad (maybe about 98.2%) but it's just how people view them. Did the guy deserve to get fired? Who knows I'm not friends with the asshole. He could be lying for all we know. Same goes for his asshole boss. He might have done it as a business move or he really might hate someone for just watching a TV show he didn't like.
My word of advice: keep it to yourself when at work. You won't see me telling my customers/co-workers how much I hate them. Also don't disobey your boss. If this story is completely true, then he should learn from this experience and hopefully find a better job. Or commit suicide. As for bronies, I guess you need to work on getting people to accept you. You're gonna have a harder time though because you weren't raised/born this way. This is something you choose to do at your own free will.

Care to share?
Good thing I quit while I was ahead.
ok, so I just read through the whole thread again, it's amazing how many assumptions everybody on both sides are making without knowing the full story.
You guys are putting way too much faith in some random guy on the internet that may have simply made this story up for attention. We have no confirmation this is true other then some guy's personal account of what he reckons happened.
Is it disturbing I have had that type of dream before?
Speak for yourself my dreams all involved fighting giant spiders and one time turning into a SNES style pixel character shaving hairs for said giant spider.

Kids are a lot smarter than you give them credit for.
I am against all forms of discrimination and bullying against any group
Except bronies
Does that make me a hypocrite, a dick, and a bit of a bad person?
I mean yea I guess but at least I'm honest with myself about it
I guess my biggest issue with bronies is their need to constantly inject their hobbies into everyday life and they are incapable of realizing when that might be inappropriate. Like in the fucking workplace. I just can't even fathom how someone like that doesn't pick up on how creepy it must look to talk to little girls about that show, especially around their friggin boss. Was it within the employers rights to terminate him? Yup. Was it a dick move? Yup. But that's unfortunately how the world works. Maybe in the future this brony will remember to keep his hobbies to himself at work like the rest of us do.
Assuming of course, this even actually happened.
~btw mods you might as well lock this thread because I have had the final word and my opinions are fact and also unarguable~
HEY Stop rating me disagree and dumb or you will really regret it I mean it you really don't want to fuck with me
If it's true, it's definitely excessive. Personally, I don't really understand the brony thing. I've met the bad part of the brony culture, and then I've met others who I would have never thought were bronies. My viewpoint is, if it's what you like, then enjoy it.
bronies? in my workplace?
it's more likely than you think
I think we've got to look at this from a different perspective. The brony here clearly did make other people uncomfortable and introduced friction in the office, and either it's firing the many or the few.
It doesn't really justify firing him, but if we looked at it from another perspective where everyone is a brony except one, I'd assume this one guy would be fired instead of all the bronies.

Well I just feel we don't know more of the story, either the person isn't telling us everything he did that could have made them all uncomfortable or they were just ganging up on him because they didn't like knowing that their colleague watched a show they didn't like.
I doubt the story is entirely true anyway but even if it turns out it isn't true, it still showed most of face punch still found it justified to fire a person over something trivial like what shows they watched, they probably would agree if he had been watching the big bang theory but god forbid someone get fired for watching adventure time or breaking bad because those shows are different because we like those shows so they dont count...
Bronies represent the death of the American Dream
Wake up America, it's 2013. Do you know what your children are?
Vote YES for mandatory brony registries
This initiative will enable bronies to appear on google maps, just like sex offenders! Except instead of a blue dot, bronies will be helpfully signified by rainbow ones.
We can tolerate their life "choices" and obsessions if they can tolerate our need to protect our future generations from ending up like them!!!

taking an interest in a show that was specifically designed to only interest girls aged 8 and under when you're a 30 year old male makes you look like a pedophile. it doesn't mean you definitely are, but it's what it looks like to the vast majority. when your boss pulls you aside and says ''this personal interest of yours is making people feel uncomfortable'' and you proceed to approach his daughter and discuss your mutual interest in said show, you're basically asking to be fired.

Pffftt get outta here with your "logic" and "social awareness" there's no place for that in a 8 page thread about bronies
good thats what you get for watching mlp
What makes being a brony a choice? If someone likes something just that goes against their gender role it's not a choice (acting on it is), just because it's not a sexual preference/gender identity doesn't make it a choice.
You made the choice to watch the show in the first place.
Let's see what he did wrong exactly.
First and most obvious he clearly doesn't like his job which means he'd have poor work ethic.
He was anti-social and hardly talked to anyone so no one got to know him. Poor interpersonal skills.
He has a "creepy" desktop background.
He suddenly starts talking about a "creepy" topic and is told by his boss to cease and desist.
He does it again thinking a few weeks in between somehow makes it "okay" to ignore your boss.
He makes a Faux Pas by talking with the bosses daughter about said topic after being explicitly told not to speak about the subject in the work space.
Uh yeah, if I was the boss I could understand why he was fired. Poor work ethic, doesn't listen to instructions, has creepy interests he won't shut up about, etc.
EDIT: Or to put it in short: He does sub-par work, his coworkers find him creepy, and he doesn't listen to his boss. Under any other circumstance would that not be valid enough a reason to have him let go?
Especially in the world where there's a glut of workers and not enough jobs. A boss sacking a poor performing employee for one that will do the same job better isn't a surprise in this day and age. He's taking it personally and has a persecution complex, he thinks that because he's a brony that that would be the only reason that he could be fired.

Gay guys made the choice of having sex with dudes, they could have repressed their will to as not to make the moralist bigots around them uncomfortable, instead
Therefore, gay people willingly did not respect the canons of what is socially acceptable, and are to be condemned. Is that right?

Just shows how close minded some people are when you show them irrefutable proof that they are wrong and they just rate you dumb

I'd pretty much guess this much. However his biggest mistake was associating himself with the label. Sounds like the group brought the topic up and he couldn't just push the conversation along without putting himself at the center of it.

So bronies are discriminated against the same way LBGT people are? Are you fucking kidding me? Also good job crying about a rating you've earned by comparing gay people to guys who watch a show about cartoon horses. I'm sure bronies are murdered every year for watching a kid's cartoon.

How does hating your job equal to doing your job poorly? I hate my job for management reasons, yet I don't half-ass what I am suppose to do.
