How does hating your job equal to doing your job poorly? I hate my job for management reasons, yet I don't half-ass what I am suppose to do.
Doesn't mean that he did.
whats with the winners on op. Would you like to be fired because you like grand theft auto? because it means you are obviously a sadistic criminal?
but no one would fire you over gta
Doesn't mean that he did.
It is a two way street when it comes to this, since he is just as likely to have been a hard worker. We don't know the whole story yet, so lets not praise or condemn him yet.
god, why did MLP have to become this fad anyway? deviantart?
$100 says the dude is a creep/weirdo and that is the main reason he got fired. How is it surprising that a grown man who watches cartoon ponies and loves them enough that he has integrated them into his personality by calling himself a brony creeps some people out. Especially if it's a dude who admits to never talking to anyone and just sitting in his cube.
It is a two way street when it comes to this, since he is just as likely to have been a hard worker. We don't know the whole story yet, so lets not praise or condemn him yet.
Honestly I think he was fired for reasons other than what he stated but he doesn't want to fess up to it and hey blaming MLP hate makes a much more interesting story than "Disgruntled employee fired from hated job". He wants sympathy and to become some kind of martyr. I know his type, they're toxic because they do stuff wrong and don't realize it. Instead they blame coworkers and their bosses for being "ignorant" and "hating" them for reasons unrelated to the fact they're crap at their job. Then they get fired and complain about it and how they are 'Glad' to have been fired because then they'll get a better job (Which begs the question: if you could get a better job than why aren't you job hunting already?) and no longer have to 'grace' the business with their presence. It's a pity party with a MLP theme.
Now i'm beginning to understand why Hasbro feels rather uncomfortable about bronies (for some reason it never really twigged until now). Dosh is dosh, but one's got to worry about the company reputation as well.
Yes, this is exactly what I said, absolutely spot on But even if I think your radical anti-semitic views are disturbing I respect your opinion all the same Now if we're even from putting words in other people's mouths, please leave
You compared the choice to watch a cartoon to gay people. How the hell did I put any words in your mouth?
$100 says the dude is a creep/weirdo and that is the main reason he got fired. Especially if it's a dude who admits to never talking to anyone and just sitting in his cube.
I stand by what I said before, they wanted a reason to fire him and they were just trying to find one. I don't think this guy is necessarily one of the creepy ones, people tend to use "brony" to describe anyone from fans of the show to...well, you've seen extremes. It's like any group that labels themselves, they always range from decent people to "what the fuck". If this was a guy who was super into anime or whatever and carried one of those dumb gaara sand pots or whatever (I've seen those people and they make me sad) and greeted people in broken (or wrong) japanese, he'd probably be fired too. I honestly doubt that him being a fan of MLP was the reason he was fired, he was probably acting weird/creepy about it and they wanted him gone.
this is a good day fuck 'bronies'
I must say, I am finding this Pony to Nazi script hilarious.
So bronies are discriminated against the same way LBGT people are? Are you fucking kidding me? Also good job crying about a rating you've earned by comparing gay people to guys who watch a show about cartoon horses. I'm sure bronies are murdered every year for watching a kid's cartoon.
Youre missing the point. People are justifying this because its "not normal" and "makes the other people uncomfortable." Its a fucking cartoon and he never got up in peoples faces about it.
Youre missing the point. People are justifying this because its "not normal" and "makes the other people uncomfortable." Its a fucking cartoon and he never got up in peoples faces about it. [editline]1st October 2013[/editline] You make a lot of assumptions
I'm drawing what conclusions I can from the one sided story. Usually when someone fesses up to doing something wrong they understate it because it's actually much worse. Easier to tell believable half-truths than lies. But that's neither here or there, everything in this thread is assumptions and speculation. I'm just trying to figure out a way that everything makes sense. Usually when an individual is saying everybody else is at fault but him it usually means he's at fault and he's blaming everyone else. http://chronicle.com/article/Its-Your-Fault/128098/?sid=at&utm_source=at&utm_medium=en Maybe this will explain it better.
Let's see what he did wrong exactly. First and most obvious he clearly doesn't like his job which means he'd have poor work ethic. He was anti-social and hardly talked to anyone so no one got to know him. Poor interpersonal skills. He has a "creepy" desktop background. He suddenly starts talking about a "creepy" topic and is told by his boss to cease and desist. He does it again thinking a few weeks in between somehow makes it "okay" to ignore your boss. He makes a Faux Pas by talking with the bosses daughter about said topic after being explicitly told not to speak about the subject in the work space. Uh yeah, if I was the boss I could understand why he was fired. Poor work ethic, doesn't listen to instructions, has creepy interests he won't shut up about, etc. EDIT: Or to put it in short: He does sub-par work, his coworkers find him creepy, and he doesn't listen to his boss. Under any other circumstance would that not be valid enough a reason to have him let go? Especially in the world where there's a glut of workers and not enough jobs. A boss sacking a poor performing employee for one that will do the same job better isn't a surprise in this day and age. He's taking it personally and has a persecution complex, he thinks that because he's a brony that that would be the only reason that he could be fired.
For sure, I think thing that sent his boss to the point of terminating him was his anti-social attitude. If you have ever worked in any setting with coworkers, the anti-social person is always "that guy". So anything weird or off about him becomes amplified by 500%. Being a brony is against the social norm and is very poorly understood by people outside that fandom. So people are definitely going to think he's creepy and possibly a pedophile, when he has this strange affinity to MLP and has a tendency to shy away from people. Then the final nail was that he talked to the boss's daughter and he is obviously going to misinterpret that. Remember, as much as I personally hate it, working with others is just as much about keeping up appearances as it is about working hard. If your into a controversial or weird fandom/subject, you have to set limits. There is a time and place for everything, and usually your workplace isn't the time, nor the place.
In this thread there are two kinds of people, those who say that it was legit firing him because, mlp aside, he had a creepy attitude, and those who say that it wasn't fair. Being a brony myself (i consider myself more like a "fan of the show", since this fandom got full of people jumping the bandwagon and "hardcore bronies 20%COOLER SWAG") i can't choose neither of the sides, because i think that the article is too generic, doesn't tell anything of the person who got fired, there's a difference between telling a child that she's got a nice shirt, and telling the same thing in a creepy way. We also don't know if there were other reasons for firing him, like doing an half assed job and such. About the show itself, i really don't know why people are making a big deal about this, both bronies and "haters". It's just a cartoon show, a quite good cartoon show for the tastes of some people, and everyone must be respected.
Bronies are fuckin weird.
Always nice to see facepunch has kept its extreme hatred of bronies when literally every other website on the internet has stopped caring.

Also him being a "That Guy" is exactly what I'm talking about.
Always nice to see facepunch has kept its extreme hatred of bronies when literally every other website on the internet has stopped caring.
well someone has to remind them to sort their fucking lives out!!!
Theres no correlation between liking a certain tv show and being a pedophile but nice try bro
there's a difference between ''liking a certain TV show'' and basing your entire identity around a children's program specifically developed with the intention of drawing the interest of 8 year old girls. if someone had an obsession with snuff films, made graphic images of dead bodies their desktop background and went by the alias ''InYourBedRoomAt2AM'' on reddit you'd likely assume they were a potential serial killer.
Good riddance. Workplace is no place for immaturity.
I played spyro the dragon yesterday, does that mean I should be fired from my job too?
There were bronies in my high school library who made it really awkward when they spoke about it. It would sometimes get to the point where I would uncontrollably cringe or not be able to focus on my work, especially when they spoke about rule 34. I could see how it can make people uncomfortable, but judging by the OP, the guy just set his wallpaper as applejack and spoke about it when confronted or asked about the show. Definitely don't see why he was fired for that stupidity, especially when other people in the office were actually making fun of him? Shouldn't it be those assholes getting fired?
I played spyro the dragon yesterday, does that mean I should be fired from my job too?
Not quite comparable, I think the comparison would be more to young children's shows (Like Teletubbies) rather than tween/teen video games. Can you imagine how creepy someone gushing about the Teletubbies would be? Especially from an older gentleman that hardly talks to anyone? I find it a little weird that you're (rightfully) tolerable of transgenders yet you stigmatise and ridicule a person who likes a kids TV show. In fact this whole forums fucked like that sometimes, backing gays and transgenders and whatever else but when it comes to something as trivial as a show about ponies everyone loses their mind, what's the fucking problem? How can anyone even let an aspect of somebody else's life effect them that much? Get a fucking grip, guys. Fuck.

A Pokefur is saying it's okay to fire someone for being a brony the fucking irony
