Actually they more or less are. People don't exactly have direct control over their tastes, saying you're in complete control and able to change over your own taste in humor or television is equivalent to saying you're able to change your sexuality or gender identity, which around here (and with mostly sensible people) is regarded as false.
Lemme check myself: Are you seriously comparing a niche internet fandom to legitimate minorities? Do you seriously wonder why I questioned you for having a persecution complex that *is* a mile wide?

There's no reason to say this guy should have been fired. If you think otherwise, you're just a circle-jerker on the anti-MLP wank wagon.
no, that's SH drinking game.
There's not enough booze in my entire town

You should honestly be ashamed of yourself.
There's no reason to say this guy should have been fired. If you think otherwise, you're just a circle-jerker on the anti-MLP wank wagon.

Anyway, it's not all bad. The job was s***, I have some other opportunities already coming up that pay better, have better hours and better benefits. So thanks. And a F*** you Mr. Carter, you're the worst boss I've ever had in my years of working.
This guy had bigger issues.
This is dumb. To put this in perspective, imagine if he liked Doctor Who, had a Tardis as his desktop background, complemented his coworker's son on his dalek T-shirt, and then got fired because him liking Doctor Who made people uncomfortable. How would that make any kind of sense?
A 30 year old man complimenting a 10 year old boy about a sci-fi show != A 30 year old man complimenting a 10 year old girl about a young girl's show. It's a petty, disputable firing, but it's not like you can pretend that this guy has good workplace decorum for what is likely a conservative corporate environment. You wear your button down and khakis, pretend to give a rat's ass about Pam's 32nd birthday party, and at least glance at the sports section on Mondays do you don't appear to be a social pariah. Let's face it, sports teams and cheerleaders are expected interests for middle aged men, animated pink ponies are not.
Should've been a serious talk with him, seeing as his coworkers are probably the most "average" kind of people (that you, fp, hate so much) could stop work with him effectively.
Actually they more or less are. Your only supporting the stereotype that bronies have major persecution complexes.
Let's play a game of "count the hypocrites" instead
I'm playing "where's the bandaids everybody's being edgy" provided this anonymous story has any salt to it, I'll give a thought: if the guy is the type to put a pone on their work comp background I'm going to say this isn't the full story and he was more argumentative about it when it (somehow) got brought up by others. Even if it was for such a silly thing I'd expect someone of this character's description to have outed names or at least the company to try and get press out of it because it sounds like the kind of guy who treats being a brony as a pride thing
Way to ruin your life by jacking off to cartoon horses and admitting it to your supervisors.

Good riddance. Workplace is no place for immaturity.

justified
What the fuck am I reading?

Comparing fandoms (which, as you might need to be reminded of, can choose to shut the hell up about it) to racial minorities or the LGBT population is both beyond laughable and downright pathetic.
they can't control their tastes but they can control how much they fucking talk about it and what wall papers they use unlike being you know black I'd like you to know that right now, you are being very racist, sexist, and homophobic. It's pretty distracting how ignorant it is to make that comparison, essentially belittling the real life issues blacks, women, and gays face down to the same ones some brony faces.
To be honest you could say that about gay people and trans people if they had a pride flag or whatever on their desktop. It's the same issue, just on a much smaller/pettier scale.

I think it's the lack of professionalism that did him in. Let's see, putting a polarizing and often seen as immature image on your computer's desktop. Talking about things polarizing and often seen as immature while in the work space. And to top it all off some people find bronies creepy and from what it sounds this person managed to creep out his co-workers which is a problem. We also have only his side of the story, for all we know he could have been arguing with co-workers about how they should be "open minded" to cartoon ponies.
To be honest you could say that about gay people and trans people if they had a pride flag or whatever on their desktop. It's the same issue, just on a much smaller/pettier scale.
Except one group is still being repressed, assaulted, mocked and generally treated as subhuman today and the other isn't.
To be honest you could say that about gay people and trans people if they had a pride flag or whatever on their desktop. It's the same issue, just on a much smaller/pettier scale.
Ok but has any brony ever been beaten, tortured, murdered, or burned at the stake because they like to watch a certain TV show? Do they have an entire books worth of offensive slurs and constantly suffer from verbal abuse? Are there countries restricting their sexuality and even threatening death sentences for it? (hint NOPE) They might be similar but they're absolutely incomparable issues. Seriously, get rid of that fucking persecution complex. You are NOT an oppressed minority.
This guy had bigger issues.
For what it's worth, that doesn't seem like that much of an overreaction if what he said was true. A couple of curses and insults for being fired from your job for something so petty seems pretty light, to be honest, especially coupled with the anonymity of the Internet.
Well, I don't even really know about the whole MLP thing, but that's pretty gay.
imagine unironically having a brony persecution complex and not understanding how whining about it is the dumbest shit ever
Ok but has any brony ever been beaten, tortured, murdered, or burned at the stake because they like to watch a certain TV show? They might be similar but they're absolutely incomparable issues.
Looks like one got fired unfairly.
Seriously, get rid of that fucking persecution complex. Fired over liking a show? Wow, that's just stupid.
Looks like one got fired unfairly. Not a brony.
Losing a shitty job v.s. dying ok
Looks like one got fired unfairly. Not a brony.
(assuming he was even actually fired and isn't just some jackass trying to further his persecution complex) WOH thats totally comparable with centuries of oppression
There's no reason to say this guy should have been fired. If you think otherwise, you're just a circle-jerker on the anti-MLP wank wagon.
Honestly rabid Anti-Bronies can be just as hilarious and petty as rabid Bronies.
I have a dream that one day on Facepunch the sons of former bronies and the sons of former anti bronies will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the show they like but by the content of their character.
(assuming he was even actually fired and isn't just some jackass trying to further his persecution complex) WOH thats totally comparable with centuries of oppression
remember because he's a brony he automatically has a persecution complex and lies to get attention grow up
To be honest you could say that about gay people and trans people if they had a pride flag or whatever on their desktop. It's the same issue, just on a much smaller/pettier scale.
it's not even slightly close Bronies don't get shamed, beaten, bullied, lynched in the streets nearly as much as these groups have. At worst they get picked on over the internet and get bullied but "Because its gay to like MLP", boo hoo. Sure, they occasionally get 'discriminated against' but it's just not the same issue because of it being on a much smaller scale. [t]http://www.bilerico.com/2010/07/gay-hate-sign.jpg[/t] also, funny profile comment
J!NX- 1 Minute Ago also "You alone give them half the shit gays get online," seriously please fuck off I wasnt' even being unfair about the brony thing at all. I said he shouldn't get fired. And the difference between brony should be very clear asteroidrules - 2 Minutes Ago Heck where I live I get more flak for being a pegasister than being transgender. J!NX- 2 Minutes Ago stop posting comments on my profile I'll just start posting them in the thread now asteroidrules - 4 Minutes Ago Are you joking? You alone give them half the shit gays get online, and like it or not people seriously do try to pull that kind of thing IRL too. And either way my point was that it's the exact same concept, same logic, and for the few people who still think it makes sense it's beginning to escalate to that point. I will admit it's likely that (despite your best efforts) that line of backwards thinking will die out first, but that's beside the point. J!NX- 11 Minutes Ago SS Officers don't get lynched in the fucking street, and even if they do it's not even slightly close to the shit gays get just stop Edit asteroidrules asteroidrules - 18 Minutes Ago I'll be sure to let myself know I'm offending me then.
"backwards thinking" I know as a fact the shit gays deal with is way more serious than what bronies get. asteroidrules clearly has no idea what actual discrimination is like at all.
