i'm not sure why anyone is surprised, the IOC is corrupt as hell, they don't care about "sports" only money.
It's not like the olympics were all that interesting anyways. Might as well replace it with "Intense Buttcheek Squeezing": See who can exert the most pressure with their glutes. [editline]12th February 2013[/editline] [t]http://www.canoe.ca/WrestlingImagesT/taylor_chris2.jpg[/t] You see this? That man on the top weighed 400 pounds. The man on the bottom, less than 280. This is a sport. Synchronized swimming is not a sport.
Wrestling is one the most Olympic sports out there. I don't see the logic behind this.
Seriously. Wresting is an absolutely insane combination of endurance, burst output, flexibility, raw strength, speed, accuracy, technique and knowledge. You literally need to be everything to be the best wrestler. One more reason on my list of "Why you shouldn't care about the Olympics".
Good now we can get more coverage on ping pong and speed walking.
Don't talk shit about speed walking. [t]http://i.imgur.com/Cy65ZVo.jpg[/t]
im not sure if they're doing the fucking salsa or walking wtf IOC
I think it got dropped because only Americans care about wrestling. I could be wrong, though.
;39569632']Wrestling would be far more interesting if you took out the uniforms, those thing look incredibly stupid.
You talkin shit on wrestling singlets? I'm sorry I am just bothered with this statement.
I think it got dropped because only Americans care about wrestling. I could be wrong, though.
You're kidding right? It's like the national sport of russia, central asia, middle east, eastern europe and sub saharan countries.
Probably the stupidest thing they've done since it started.
Aye, this is an olympic sport: But, this isn't: Let's not forget golf that just got in and will be in the 2016 olympics.
NASCAR for the next Olympic event please

It may look silly at times, but what these athletes accomplish is astounding.

You are seriously comparing choreographed swimming to a combat sport, un fucking believable.
Lmao compare the workload and injury rate for wrestlers to synchronized swimmers then get back to me. Synchronized swimming is part of the FÉDÉRATION INTERNATIONALE DE NATATION, which also organizes swimming, diving and water polo . If they'd want to drop synchro, they'd have to remove all these disciplines, since they'd have to remove the whole federation. That would mean a loss of 46 events during the Olympics, compared to "only" 18 in the case of wrestling. Also, what has the injury rate to do with whether something is a sport or not? [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] For sources, here's the official paper for Rio 2016: http://www.olympic.org/Documents/Commissions_PDFfiles/Programme_commission/REPORT_26_CORE_SPORTS_2016_GAMES.pdf

Now you are running off on another tangent. Synchronized swimming is not that physically challenging. Does it require a great deal of skill? Yes. But as challenging as a combat sport in athleticism and physicality? Like fuck.

But as challenging as a combat sport in athleticism and physicality? Like fuck.
As said, did you ever try it? It is physically very demanding. For example, let's look at this picture: They did this jump all by themselves, they are not allowed to touch the bottom or anything else to perform such a thing. If you ever went swimming and tried to lift your friends out of the water in the middle of the lake, you know how hard this is. What I want to say is, they have to train exactly as hard and as long as any other athletes have to. Even more so, they have to build up their bodies, as well as studying the choreographic that they want to perform. I agree that they don't need to be as strong as wrestlers or weightlifters, but in terms of endurance, precision/timing and body tension, it's probably more demanding. You are correct in terms that these sports should not be compared. Likewise, one shouldn't say that this discipline should go because wrestling got kicked out. [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] Personally, I'm not a huge fan of synchronized swimming, but I find it ridiculous to say that it isn't a sport.

Have you ever wrestled in your life? I dont think there are any more dedicated or more conditioned athletes out there. those guys are legit insane in how they train.
Hell no. Have you ever wrestled in your life? I dont think there are any more dedicated or more conditioned athletes out there. those guys are legit insane in how they train.
Bit of swiss wrestling (Schwingen), and I agree they are insane. But from personal experience, there are nutjobs in every single sport. I've trained with some guys doing cross country skiing, biggest nutjobs I've met so far.
Let's not forget golf that just got in and will be in the 2016 olympics.
So.. they're gonna replace big sweaty men grappling each other while grunting furiously with old guys swinging their balls all over a field?
I understand why trough time they have removed things like art competitions but removing a proper sport like wrestling is idiotic. I hope they change their minds.
From the IOC press release:
Wrestling will now join the seven shortlisted sports – baseball/softball, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, wakeboarding and wushu – vying for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic programme as an additional sport.
They should also put reiki and Qigong on that list.
How the fuck could they get rid of wrestling, this is like a huge middle finger to any of us who have wrestled in our life. Fucking ribbon spinning is good enough to be a main olypimc sport but not wrestling? Once ypu take up wrestling it BECOMES your life, I know no other sport with so much dedication.
Did you EVER try synchronized swimming? I can tell you, it's one of the hardest physical activity one can possibly do. It may look silly at times, but what these athletes accomplish is astounding.
You can make almost anything physically demanding. That isn't a big deal. The difference is the pure competition that wrestling has compared to the subjective and often controversial scoring of 'sports' like synchronized swimming.
Probably the stupidest thing they've done since it started.
That would be Solo Synchronized Swimming. I WISH I was kidding, that was an actual Olympic Sport.
