And yet no-one I ever talk to knows this thing even exists...
I have the benefit of all my friends being technology enthusiasts and car enthusiasts. But its not exactly the largest group.
As opposed to what...?
A truck with not as much torque :V
A truck with not as much torque :V
Ah, the lack of a comma between "sports car" and "with loads of torque" kinda threw me off :v:
i knew i was smart to invest in tesla :)
That's not an official concept. The Tesla truck they want to build will be a direct competitor to the ford F-150. So expect it to be bigger. Elon described it as a truck that drives like a sports car with loads of torque.
Really now? That sounds pretty dang promising. I can't wait to see the concepts.
Tesla S, Aston Rapide, and Jaguar XJ
Sorry but the Jag and Tesla look nothing alike apart from having 4 doors. There is a passing resemblance to the Aston though, but all Astons look pretty much the same anyway. It's pretty obvious that it's going to get high scores in a test like this. It takes a certain person to buy an expensive electric vehicle, it's something very specific, so people that chose to buy it are usually going to be impressed by it. Personally they seem a bit soulless to me, and until a reliable network for charging electric cars and making them more desirable to the average consumer then I'm sticking with fossil fuels.
I hope they make a mid-sized truck version at some point, and at an affordable rate. As much as I hate the almost fetishistic "oversized jacked up pickup, whooeee" mentality here in America, some of us actually need a vehicle with a big bed and a little towing capacity. I'm excited about this technology, though, and I can't wait to see it realized at more available price points, and to see the charging stations cropping up in more convenient places.
Aren't electric engines excellent at generating torque too? That's a good thing in cargo vehicles.
i knew i was smart to invest in tesla :)
If you don't mind telling, how much did u gain? I got up 50%, bought at $170 (before the fires) and at $120 (right at the crash because of the fires)
Aren't electric engines excellent at generating torque too? That's a good thing in cargo vehicles.
I'm sure it will be! It's more the size and off-road/rough terrain capabilities that I'm concerned about (at least with that unofficial concept above). I don't need some jacked up hoosiermobile, but I at least need a little bit of clearance a big enough bed to plop tools and parts in. If they can deliver what OvB is touting at a competitive price rate, I'd be quite pleased!
i knew i was smart to invest in tesla :)
Quite. Even if their cars don't fit my tastes at all, I can't let that affect my money-making ability.

They still haven't for their next smaller car dubbed Bluestar. (probably to be named Model E) They build a concept car (see early Whitestar/Model S and Model X) then they make improvements on it for the production model. They also use tech terminology like Alpha, Beta, etc rather than true concepts. For example: Model S Alpha: Model S Beta/production: Model X Alpha: Model X Beta: They're still making slight design changes to it too. Which is why it went from being delivered by 2014 to end of 2015. Tesla is also having trouble keeping up to demand because of their limited battery supply from Panasonic, which is why Tesla wants to build that Giga-factory. Tesla won't be able to sell more cars until that's finished. What I'm trying to say is no one will know what a Tesla truck will look like until Tesla unveils it.
If Tesla wants to make a great headway into the market, they need to manufacture a Mustang with an electric engine. The world would be a more Murica' place.
Oh god no, pigfat huge car. Should be more like a Lotus Elise, bigger isn't better.
Oh god no, pigfat huge car. Should be more like a Lotus Elise, bigger isn't better.
They already made one like that, the Roadster. But a Lotus Elise is a better alternative since the Roaster is quite a lot heavier despite being small. But, having an electric muscle car is a bit of a paradox due to what muscle cars are about.
Waiting for TestECull to come and denounce the news
Model S is dumb because it uses composites Give me a completely cast iron pickup truck powered by coral reefs and rare rainforest shrubs or give me nothing
The literally only problem I can find with a Tesla car is that you won't hear that beautiful engine revving sound when you get going with it. Other than that, it's literally a perfect car.
The literally only problem I can find with a Tesla car is that you won't hear that beautiful engine revving sound when you get going with it.
You can make it emit engine sounds. But that's like having fake tits, and saggy ones too because it won't sound genuine.
The literally only problem I can find with a Tesla car is that you won't hear that beautiful engine revving sound when you get going with it. Other than that, it's literally a perfect car.
I like the idea and I like how it's not some "randomly flowy lines" designed car, but it is very far from a perfect car. We don't know anything about the reliability, the interface on the iPad like system was unresponsive and slow when I tried it (and you cannot really use it while driving at all) and the range isn't very good. Those are just some of the things I'd like to see Tesla work on (although the range problem seems to be worked on progressively). To add to that, some of you people need to stop mindlessly defending the car. Yes, it's nice but it still has many flaws that need to be solved.
The literally only problem I can find with a Tesla car is that you won't hear that beautiful engine revving sound when you get going with it.
If the side windows ice up the door won't open You know, the windows that don't have a massive vent for defrosting directly under them I can only assume that this also means that when your battery is completely dead, you can't get into your car.
reminds me of
Genius. Or we could just have this guy do them

It should never be allowed to go dead.
If your battery ever goes completely dead you've got bigger things to worry about than getting in it. It should never be allowed to go dead.
Well I assume the battery reports that its dead and disables any further drain before it actually is and gets damaged, but since they market it as a roadtrip car it's not out of the question that someone somewhere is going to end up stranded in one and then draining the battery by using the heater etc.
If you get stranded for whatever reason I'd imagine you could call Tesla and have them locate you and send help. The car is connected to the internet although I don't know how. Probably wifi which might not work in the middle of nowhere. If you got a phone and service you should be safe long enough for help. The supercharger network right now is sparse, but by the end of 2015 it should be frequent enough (in the US) that getting stranded will be less likely unless there's catastrophic damage to the car which can happen to any vehicle during trips. Though statistically speaking someones bound to eventually get stranded/killed in a Tesla. But so far it has a pretty safe track record.
Leaf owner* here. Glad to see that electric is growing :D *(it's the family car)

There should just be a few percentage points of battery capacity reserved for the doors/windows/etc, if there aren't already.
Now that I think of it the doors might be powered by the standard car battery in the fronk. The high voltage battery only powers the motor iirc. (But the car battery is kept charged by the big battery.)
