I'm not going to like EA until they stop charging for multiplayer on preowned copies.
If your buying pre owned, they are not receiving a penny from your purchase.
I think its entirely fair and within reason that companies should make money earned and deserved after all the hard work, time and money they sink into the games themselves, instead of not receiving a penny due to second hand sales. Sure, it'll annoy second hand buyers but they dont make games just for the fun off it, its a business, and I'm fine with them actually earning money from something they developed.
Any also, all those dissing the second hand buyers, shut the fuck up. Not everyone can afford to fork out £30-40/$50-60 a pop for their games, stop ripping on people because of that.
I think a company shouldn't pay money to keep you playing online when they didn't gain anything from it.
I call bullshit on OP.

I disagree. It encourages buying games new, and used games sales actually hurt the industry.
Now, I won't really believe EA's word on this yet, as I have this nagging feeling that this will mean Facebook-esque casual browser games, rather than a move of their "hardcore" gaming department to PC.

EADM prices drop very fast, though. Dead Space 2 was released a couple months ago at 60€, it is already considerably cheaper.

Most games are aimed at the young generation, but it's hard to buy a game considering they cost as much as i make in a day when i have to pay for going out etc as well. If they sold their games at a cheaper more affordable price i'm sure they'd get waay more sales. Instead of someone buying 1 game for £40/50 they could buy two for £20. cuts down on piracy i guess
You're somewhat right, but more units moved does not equal more money earned if the prices are smaller.
I'm not going to like EA until they stop charging for multiplayer on preowned copies.
No one should charge for multiplayer. EA are money-grabbing scumbags who are just in it for money.
No one should charge for multiplayer. EA are money-grabbing scumbags who are just in it for money.
Yes but you have to think about it. It costs money to run a server and if you didn't buy the game and are playing on there servers you are costing the game developers money.
And, nothing in the article even mentioned steam.
It may become their biggest platform because it's dirt cheap to make F2P games that are appealing to a mass crowd. Throw in an item shop and some ads then you have a massive profit margin.
You people seem to forget that EA mainly produces shit, ( such as all those fucking sports games) or failing that turns game series that were previously good into shit ( such as command and conquer).
EA produced retail copies of most valve games
also, the sports games are pretty good if you like said sport
EA produced retail copies of most valve games
Other than distributing retail copies, EA has fuck all to do with them. EA had nothing to do with development at all.

But a fair share of the price of a game (on consoles anyway) is based on the money thats forked out for publishing, licensing and distributing. Hence why PC games are cheaper.
If it went down to £20, the developers wouldnt be receiving much in return. This is why you see console games at the price they are.
this is a bit optimistic

Why don't they keep filling the console market with pretty but plot-deficient games?
Do they think PC gamers are more stupid?
COD10: Same old shit, new ability, even less of a plot! PC only!
What's with all the poor people buying PC games second hand?
That's just...not master race. Off you go, back to consoles.
Can't buy used games form Steam, can't sell Steam games.
I don't really see a big deal. Why can't a game company make money they deserve rather than some pawn shop/EB games making $20 off a game they bought from some punk for $3.

Well, why would you pay more for your disk to still be wrapped in cellophane, especially if the previous owner treated the case and all well?

Wrong thread bro, Actishit's on the other side of the playground.
Anyone else read this as "The PC market is big and ripe to exploit for more profit."
But then again it would be stupid to think a company does things for money right?
Seriously? I mean come on of all the reasons.
who the fuck buys preowned games except people below the poverty line
Now that's an idiotic remark.
They can go to hell with their DLC's though. When I buy a game, I expect the full fucking game.
It's already happening, BF3, Strike at Karkand map is DLC from the go. Wtf?

Hehe, people prefer to save money than not? crazyyy!

Why would you want a game second hand?
And while we're on the matter, why would you want non-digital copy of a game anyway?
I stopped buying physical copies since 2004 or something, i see no point.

You're joking.
DLC are supposed to extend the lifespan of a game after some time, not be a launch day bonus.
Now that's an idiotic remark.
No it's not.
Buying a game second hand is more or less the same thing as buying a pirated copy of it since NONE of the money goes to developers. None, Zero, Nada, Zip.
Why would you want a game second hand?
To legally save money, obviously. Not everyone wants to pay $60 or €60 for a game that only lasts a few hours.
And while we're on the matter, why would you want non-digital copy of a game anyway? I stopped buying physical copies since 2004 or something, i see no point.
Not everyone has fast internet connects that can download games quickly, and physical copies are good if you need a backup of your game.
Buying a game second hand is more or less the same thing as buying a pirated copy of it since NONE of the money goes to developers. None, Zero, Nada, Zip.
No it isn't. With pirated copies, developers get nothing; with used copies, at least they get some money from the original sale.
Getting some money is better than not getting anything at all.
not true, developers earn money from what publishers ship out. used copies are completely removed from that process so dev's and publishers don't see any money from it
