I watched Game of Thrones and instantly wanted the type of dog due to the cuteness of the puppies.
I'm sure at some point in your life you've done the same, which is fine! However, people shouldn't just let them die when they don't care.
I've never had any pets except a blue fish that lasted about 5 months.
I just saw Dances with Wolves.
Now I want a wolf.

Good thing you weren't watching The Grey; you might change your mind :v:

I want a native american.
This makes me so sad. I can't kill a random bug let alone abandon an awesome bird. People who do this are sick/need to not give in to their kids' silly, spur-of-the-moment desires, at least if it involves a living thing.
This still happens with clown fish because of Finding Nemo. People are buying them for their little kids without any idea how to care for them. (although it's not really that hard, it's not right for a kid). A fish store owner that goes to a forum I'm on says he won't even sell clown fish to people buying for their kids anymore because some bitch came into his store demanding two clown fish, saying she knew how to care for them and had the right tanks and blah blah blah. Only for her to come in the next day saying they died and demanding a refund. He later found out they were put in a Freshwater aquarium.
Some people...
don't you need like, coral and a well-maintained natural filtration system to even remotely think about keeping clownfish?
I always wanted a hedgehog, they're cuddly as fuck.

I want a pangolin:

The only issue is that their scales can be sharp enough to cut you easily, they're a threatened species due to habitat destruction and hunting, and they aren't too too easy to care for.

You don't need coral if you just want to keep saltwater fish, although it makes it nice and reef-y. Some fish like them, some fish don't. With something like a clown fish it doesn't take much more than a respectable sized tank, some rocks, and an anemone or something else to hide in. The closer you can mimic their natural habitat the happier they'll be. Live rock is always a plus though as it does add a nice biological filter to the system. Filter could be pretty much anything honestly, since you're just taking care of two little fish. Keep the parameters in check and you shouldn't need some huge system. Hell, I've had my clownfish since 08. First saltwater fish I bought. They've been through hurricane Ike with no power (means no light, filter, circulation, etc) for something like a week. Buggers are still kicking.
In short, if you know how to take care of freshwater fish, then you can't fuck-up with clownfish, they're pretty much the next logical step in transitioning from freshwater tanks to saltwater tanks, which makes all the stories I've heard of people killing them because their kid decided they wanted Nemo one night all the more horrible.
I want this owl:

(how to embed videos?)
I was the only kid I knew who got a red eared slider (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_eared_slider) NOT because of ninja turtles :v:
She's still alive too. Rocking 19 years old.
I used to have two. Got them in Georgia.
I named them "Bob" and "Marley" (Yeah, really original)
To bad they died. Indiana ain't the climate for a damn turtle.
This reminds me of the pot-bellied pig fad, and makes me just as sad.
Our family got a Jack Russell Terrier because of the PBS show "Wishbone". She lived to be a ripe 15 years old.
same thing happened when finding nemo came out
i fucking hate fads seriously
Owls are feral animals that are not supposed to live or stay near humans. There is a reason it takes years of training to be able to actually take care of a bird of prey properly, because they are aggressive as fuck, easily scared (and with any predator "being scared" means "tries to tear your face off") and react to human reflexes and attitudes in a drastically different manner than dogs or cats.
Yes, they look cute, yes they are badass, but they are still animals that should not be owned by anyone. Especially owls which are supposed to live at night and hunt to live, having one trapped in a house and fed without any effort would just turn them into half blind retarded birds.
in a perfect world I would have a tarsier as a pet

It's probably half are dumb as shit British population, thinking cause the fims British and they are too, oh hey lets get an owl because they're not hard to fucking care after at all are they.
I fucking love owls, one of my favourite birds, especially Dusky-Eagle Owls.

This chumps laughing at you, mocking your shit. What you gonna do? Nothing. (Forest Eagle Owl.)

I've always wanted a penguin. Why? Because its a fucking penguin, what other reason do you need?
Who the hell gets a pet for a fad?
And why would you abandon an owl anyway? They're so cool.
They are abandoning owls because they are literally impossible to maintain without special training and immense dedication. Owls are incredibly difficult to keep. It's why these fads are terrible because little Suzy wants an owl, but then they find out it's just a wild bird.
Owls are awesome birds, but unless you are actually trained and care more about the animals than yourself, they are impossible to keep as pets.
And, once again, the stupidity of the human race rears its ugly head
Amazing how a simple fad causes many people to do things like this.
I really want a fennec fox
I want an Armadillo Lizard.
nah, horned lizards

At least four species are also able to squirt an aimed stream of blood (see Autohaemorrhaging) from the corners of the eyes for a distance of up to five feet
So badass
That's a really informative* article. Whoever wrote that* certainly knew what they were doing* I don't know what kind of person* would buy an owl after reading/watching Harry Potter Dickhead It's almost as bad as putting random shit* in your articles*
After Finding Nemo came out I always wanted a Puffer Fish, and I finally got a Green Spotted Puffer Fish for my birthday a month ago. At first I felt it was a bit harder than I expected, but now its easy and quick to feed him and clean out his tank.
