Donald Trump proposes military parades in Washington DC - Polidicks

I think that context is bigly important when it comes to the use of military parades. For something like an independence day, I see no issue as it's just showing respect for the military and its heritage. For something like a presidential inauguration it sets some pretty concerning flags off on how our leader views and presents himself.

I'm noticing that like 90% of the posts in here are (rightfully) shitting on 10% of the posts that 2 or 3 people made involving how parades are just to incite fear into citizens (they're not lol. I don't have an issue with military parades unless they're organized with shit intent like Trump is doing. Country-wide Military parades to celebrate a certain national day of significance, such as a day commemorating the sacrifices of a country's soldiers, or a celebration of a country's independence, those are merited. The inauguration of a President, ostensibly a servant of the people, does not merit the same. Especially when that president is the greatest affront to intellectualism the world has seen in the 21st century, and has the temperament of a child.

It's about celebrating the democratic system and the peaceful transition of power. Doesn't seem too inappropriate for a military parade to be held during a celebration of our country.

I honestly would love this kind of thing, seeing where our tax dollars are going would be kinda nice. Not to mention, seeing aircraft flyovers with tanks rolling in box formation would be just an amazing sight.

I'd love to see the Blue Angels get more funding. Same with ESA stuff. Would also not mind seeing a Military Monster Truck style thing, where they show off their tanks n offroad shit. I would have loved that as a kid.

There was one ANZAC day where I completely forgot it was ANZAC day and slept in, only to be awoken by a pretty low flying fighter jet. Seeing as how I lived near one of the largest air bases in Australia i fucking shit myself and legit thought we were being attacked. Then I remembered what the fuck was happening and laughed. It was a good wake up alarm tbh

You're paying so I can have all these extra pays I don't need, blow 2k a month of Government money on house rent that a specifically over priced for military to rent, 400 a year for clothes, a fuck ton of paid vacation time, Government Travel Credit cards for 'Offical Government Business' and travel at the tax payers expense. The amount of fuck you money I get paid is hilarious. 60k a year with benefits, State doesn't tax military, a guaranteed retirement at 39, 4 years of paid college (with a fuck ton benefits) that I'm giving to my son because I'll never ise it, and free Tuition Assistance for as long as I'm in. Even so literally almost everything about the parades is already paid for, Tanks? Paid for. Men? Paid for. Uniforms? We pay for those. Fuel? Likely from a military fuel depot, already paid for and covered by the military fiscal year budget anyway. I'm not saying the parade will be super cheap, but considering everything involved is owned by the Government and mostly already covered under the existing budget it's not particularly costly either. Granted I agree the funding would better be used somewhere else, but it's not really as bad as everyone thinks it is.
