What a badass. Live grenades are frakkin intimidating. I've never seen a single game or movie do grenades justice. The explosive force of them is so much greater than I could have imagined. The shockwave from those is enough to blow your teeth out, even from behind cover. In basic training one guy would approach the line, do his grenade toss routine and drop behind cover. The rest of us would wait our turn in a bunker about twenty yards behind the forward bunker, where the soldier tossed the grenade from. Every time a grenade went off, the walls of our bunker would shake, and dust would from the ceiling. Since I'm fucking tall, standing in at 6'5, and the ceiling was fucking low, that meant that every explosion not only shook the bunker, it traveled through the bunker, into my head, and rattled my bones. It was wicked. I guess what I'm getting at is that after witnessing the force of a standard fragmentation grenade, I can hardly believe that anybody would willingly approach a live one, pick it up in his hand, and try to throw it back. Guy should get a fucking medal. That takes some serious testicular fortitude. Slightly off-topic: We first practiced with dummy grenades, which exploded with about the same force as an M-80 fire cracker. Not much, but still enough to blow off a few fingers. One of the soldiers from another platoon, when told to pull the pin, release the spoon, and throw the grenade, did what he was told right up the point where he was supposed to throw the grenade. Instead of throwing it, he got nervous and place the grenade directly into the instructor's hand. Instructor casually dropped it over the side of the bunker, karate chopped the [I]FUCK[/I] out of the soldier, and threw him out of the bunker too.
